Salt Water Flush Instructions: How To Make It Easy To Drink

First we’re going to talk about my struggle with the salt water flush, then go over the salt water flush instructions broken down into 7 steps at the end…

I first learned about a salt water flush by doing the Master Cleanse. It’s one of the primary techniques for ushering waste of your body when doing the cleanse.

You can also do a salt water flush on its own. It’s a fast way to flush your colon and even drain your sinuses.

The following video is a good recap of what you’ll likely experience when doing the SWF.

How I Learned To Make The Salt Water Flush Easier

I thought I would never ever be able to do the salt water flush. Me and salt water just never got along.

At the time I’d done the Master Cleanse a few times but always skipped the SWF.

After some experimenting I discovered a way to do the SWF that makes it easy to get down without gagging.

Here’s a quick story…

I was on day 3 of a Master Cleanse and looking at a jar of salt and feeling nauseous already.

Then a remembered something most college kids know about getting hard to drink shots of alcohol down.

You bite a lemon wedge, lick a pile of salt, and quickly drink a shot of tequila, only really tasting the lemon if you did it right.

In an epiphany.

I put the full 2 tsps of salt in about 12 ounces of warm filtered water and mixed it well.

Then I cut a very thick slice of lemon and used the shot-taking technique between gulps of salt water.

You can use oranges or grapefruit if lemon is too bitter.

The lemon is like a barrier and you’re able to swallow the salt water without even a gag!

Have a glass of plain water handy because after you finish the SWF it’s good to wash down the salt water and get the taste out of your mouth.

Since I started doing this there has been no nausea, no gut ache, no retching when doing a SWF.

What Happens When You Do A Salt Water Flush

I don’t want to get too graphic here but “things” move quickly after you consume salt water.

You’ll want to be near a bathroom and make sure you have about a 2 hour window all to yourself.

The expulsions are typically liquid. The salt water rockets right through you.

It’s also common for your sinuses to drain. A SWF is a nice way to fight colds and flu.

Salt Water Flush Instructions Summary

1. Heat up 12 ounces of water until warm but not hot. I find warm water goes down easier but you can use cold water if you like. Other salt water flush recipes call for larger amounts of water. I prefer using 12 ounces to get it down faster then chasing it with straight water. It’s easier and if you chase the SWF right away it all gets mixed up in your stomach anyway

2. Add 2 teaspoons of salt to the warm water (pink Himalayan salt tastes better, and it works just the same as any other uniodized salt). Mix well.

3. Bite into a lemon (or other citrus fruit)

4. Take a gulp of salt water

5. Repeat until finished

6. Chase with another 12 ounce (or more if you like) of plain water

7. Stay near a bathroom for about 2 hours

Salt Water Flush Questions Answered

Okay, now you know how to do the SWF.

Next let’s answer some common questions readers have asked:

yikes, I am a caffeine addict for sure, but I am contemplating doing the Lemonade Diet, my husband does it for 10-14 days from time to time, and I am scared of the headaches. I aim to do this cleanse while working 9 days straight rather than be at home cooking for kids etc…is the salt water flush absolutely a must? I commute and would hate to have to pull onto side of road to *flush*….

I’m on my third day of cleansing now. I bought your master cleanse book online and following it. I’m having a hard time doing the salt water laxative. I’m doing the herbal laxative and psyllium, but I read that salt water flushes are better. I am trying my best to drink it but I really can’t stand the salt water taste, especially with warm water and having to drink 25 ounces of it. It makes me want to throw up. I tried mixing it with 1/2 cup water instead and that i can tolerate and follow it with a lot of water afterwards. is that ok? Will that have the same effect?

I am on Day 2 of the MC and I’ve already lost 2 lbs… if I keep this up, I’ll hit my goal of 10lbs by the 10th day. Although, today seems a little bit harder than yesterday, it’s not horrible. I’m a little hungry but not starving. I wonder if exercising too much could effect this cleanse, I did overwork myself at the gym last night and early this morning, won’t be doing that again! At least, not until my 10 days are up.

I do have one worry though, I have not done the SWF yet, is this necessary? I drink the Senna tea every morning, in place of the SWF, is this ok?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Yes the salt water flush tastes bad.

And yes, it will make you have to go to the bathroom at the drop of a hat.

That said, it works like a charm when it comes to flushing out waste from your body.

Is it “a must”?

That really depends on you and if you want the maximum detoxing benefits from the Master Cleanse. You could do the Master Cleanse with just plain filtered water and lemonade and get some good results, but for the best results you’ll need to do the salt water flush.

  • Omg! Thank you so much for the advice! The whole taking a bite of a lemon after each chug worked wonders! Just like taking a shot of tequila with lime and salt.
I did the salt water cleanse before years ago and have been wanting to do it again but I remember gagging almost throwing up just trying to get it down but after trying your method by using less water for the salt and adding more water after getting the salt down worked so well. I didn't even gag! Thank you so much! It will definitely make me want to do it again in the future now! You're awesome! Thanks!

  • It may be too salty for you because the original Master Cleanse salt flush calls for a full 1 quart of water(32 oz). Try it, it's much more pleasant to drink.

  • I drink it through a straw and squeeze in the sides of my mouth so the water has the least contact with my tastebuds. Only way for me or else I'll throw up.
