A Reader Shares Some Great Master Cleanse Tips

I want to thank Naomi who shared the following tips on this blog…

I did a lot of research on master cleanse and read many many information on it so I will answer some of the above questions.

First grade A syrup is OK, but the reason grade B is used is that it has more nutrients. Maple syrup gets graded by the colour, the darker it is, lower the grade it will be. The darker kinds (B,C) gets harvested later in the season than grade A, which makes the tree store more nutrients thus more nutritious syrup. Grade C is the best since it has most nutrients but it is not available for home use. Grade C is mostly used for baking because of it’s strong flavour. For flavour wise, A has the most pleasant flavour, B is good but stronger maple flavour, C has the strongest which some people do not like. I live in Canada and at whole foods we have all of the maple syrup(graded differently. A=no.1 ex light, light, medium; B=no.2 amber; C=no.3 dark) I have tried both grade B and C syrups and I do not mind the maple taste and both tasted fine to me but B does taste better.

For the lemon, it is recommended you do not use bottled lemon juice even the organic ones. The reason behind this is that lemons contain enzymes and they die after the fruit has been cut open as time progresses. The bottled kind doesn’t contain any of these healthy enzymes we are trying to get. It is best to squeeze them right before you drink. Tip: enzymes hibernate in fridge. Store 2-3 days worth of lemons you will be using in room temperature to awaken and activate enzymes.

Cayenne pepper already comes in powdered form so to answer Margo’s question, I recommend buying a small bag of powdered cayenne pepper from a store. A very small bag would do and it is only 2-4dollars.

Sea salt- the salt water flush you are supposed to do every morning of the cleanse(which is very disgusting and makes me gag everytime…) is supposed to be used with unrefined, uniodized pure seasalt, not the kind we use for cooking. Most common mistake on master cleanse is getting the wrong kind of salt. If you are unsure, go to the bath section of the grocery store and buy a bag of pure epsom salt-the kind that doesn’t have scents or other chemicals added to it. For the salt water flush, mix 2tsp of salts to 1 litre of warm water. If it does not work, next day try 3tsp(1tbsp), add 1 tsp more if this still doesn’t do the trick.

For making lemonade ahead, mix only the maple syrup, and the squeezed lemon juice. Maple syrup acts as preservative, helping to keep the enzymes alive. Water dilutes the lemon, making the enzymes live shorter. Cayenne pepper accelerates the process as well. I recommend mixing lemon and syrup in a container, and taking water and cayenne separately.

  • Forgot to mention that usually you can get grade B maple syrup from health food stores. You can order it from Glenna Farms in Amery, WI. They only have grade B in gallon size (be prepared to spend more than $50 w/shipping and handling. Here is there web site. http://www.glennafarms.com
If you are fortunate enough to live near a Trader Joe's, they also carry it but you will again spend quite a bit. The bottles are small and w/the MC you go thru a lot.

  • I am on day six of the MC. I have already learned a few things I want to share.
    1) It doesn't seem to make sense to take your supplements or medications while on the cleanse. Since the cleanse flushes out your system, I would imagine they would be all be flushed out also. In addition to that, it is possible that they could be detrimental. Especially if you are suppose to take them with food.
    2) The author made the suggestion of using cayenne pepper capsules (organic) in place of the powder if you can't handle the "kick". That is great for me. However, the recipe only calls for 1/2 tsp of cayenne powder for every 60 ounces of water (minimum daily intake) and the capsules have 1/4 tsp powder in each. I am using Oregon's Wild Harvest brand. I am assuming this is standard for all. I believe the authors advice about taking 2 capsules with every glass you drink is EXTREMELY excessive. That would be 41/2 tsp of cayenne a day. The bottle only recommends 3 per day w/meals.

  • Sorry, forgot one question - I normally take a pill to control high blood pressure pill daily. Will it be OK to continue with it?
    Thanks

  • Can anyone tell me if I need to be using filtered water to make tea or is boiling tap water sufficient? Do I have to boil filtered water? What about distilled?

  • Hi guys!

    anymore suggestions for a beginner........?
    Thank you

  • I am on day 8, my first cleanse ever. I am 45 and an overweight female. I feel like I am turning into a lemon. Seriously, my smooth skin texture, in areas of my face, chin, and neck area are getting bumpy. Like blemishes/rash, but with no discoloration. I guess I am detoxing through my skin too. Is this normal, what should I do? Is my body telling me "enough of the lemons". On the positive side, on day 2 no more headaches, and the swelling in my feet left. My posture is better, I feel lighter. I haven't read the book or material, I'm going on what my friend told me, and now I am reading this site. Shouldn't I see black tar and gross stuff leaving my body, I haven't yet. Thanks

  • I am starting my first day of the master cleanse. I am not REALLY hungry but I find myself craving food, I think "just because." Do you all have any tips to help strengthen will power?
