It’s day 6 of the New Year Master Cleanse and today I wanted to share some tips to help you not think about food.

When you go through this process you can be sure the urge to eat will pop up from time to time. For some of you that nagging desire to eat will occupy your every waking thought. My experience tells me that if you need to use every drop of will power you have from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed just to stay on the Master Cleanse you probably have some trouble with overeating.

That’s not always the case, but many times it is.

The good news is the Master Cleanse can help break your dependency on food and train you to eat a healthy amount food.

So today I want to give you some tips for keeping your mind off food:The first tip is to avoid anything that would trigger your desire to eat. This means staying away from food, and not being around people who are eating.

You should also avoid TV because food commercials are designed to trigger your hunger.

This next tip is simple. Whenever you feel like eating you drink water and lemonade until your hunger goes away. It’s easy and it works.

Breaking the pattern. A lot of times your hunger will start out as a pesky little urge, but as you dwell on it, it quickly grows into a massive uncontrollable craving. It’s important that you break this pattern by recognizing your hunger early and stop it before it gets out of control. There’s any number of ways you can do this. You could go for a walk, take a shower, take a nap, sing, dance, whatever works.

Have lots of things to do. Before I do the Master Cleanse I have a list of low stress activities planned. Books and movies are good choices. I also like to go to the museum. Bars and comedy clubs are fine as long as stick to drinking water.

The most important thing is not to dwell on food while you’re doing the Master Cleanse because that almost always leads to quitting the cleanse.

  1. Resuming Master Cleanse!!! I did this last year for 10 days and lost 15 lbs. I am committed to doing this for at least 30 days. I want to lose 30 lbs.

  2. I am on Day 6 and down 11 pounds.
    I feel amazing and have so much energy. I have gotten so much organizing and cleaning done since I started, to keep my self occupied. I am really hoping to lose 20 and then only gain 5 back once I slowly start eating and exercising again. This has been a great experience for me thus far!

  3. Day 6 of the MC and I started out strong, had so much to do that I almost didn’t have time to make the lemonade. I downed the 32oz SWF in about 1 min. I hate it that much that I just rather get it done and over with. Also, I had to drink an additional 6oz of water just to get rid of that horrible salty taste. Anyway, it took much longer today for the SWF to kick in 2hrs, usually I’m up and literally running in 1/2 to 1.5 hrs. I had food urges today only after a “friend” who knew I’m on the MC send me a text of a pic of cake and pie. Needless to say, that put a damper on my motivation to continue throughout the day but knowing that there’s no turning back after day 1 I here submitting and praying that I have the strength and determination to continue to day 10. I am having some serious cravings but I’m gonna reach for the lemonade and water and ride this out, even if it mean turning in bed now (3:47pm). Maybe a good nap will invigorate me to stick it out further. Good luck to all! And good night πŸ™‚

  4. I started the cleanse this morning and the not eating part is a bit easy but not smoking is very hard!! πŸ™ but reading about the success stories is making me feel a whole lot better

  5. I’m on day 6 and when I weighed myself yesterday afternoon, I had lost just about 10 lbs. So hopefully next time I weigh myself I’ll have lost 2 more lbs and I’ll keep going from there! My goal is 14 days, I started with a buddy, but I think I’m on my own from now on. Just 8 days to go after this!

  6. Well Day 1 of MC ended well. Completed a total of 60.oz by 8:00pm. Drank my Tea @ 8:45pm. Slept well. Around 3:45am this morning had some slight stomach cramping, and by 4:00am had a BM. Made myself another cup of Tea @ 4:30am, and drank 1/2 of a 1L bottle of Evian Spring Water. I had a 2nd BM @ approx. 6:00am. It is now approx. 7:30am, and I have already made breakfeast for the family, and it did not phase me in the least. I cooked up a KINGS meal and did salvate over it. πŸ™‚ I’m not enjoying my first 20.oz MC of the day! My energy level is normal, but I feel happy. I think I’m excited that I got past my first day, and made it into my 2nd day still alive!!! Will check in later!

  7. Well I’m keeping myself busy so I won’t think about food. Just made lunch for the boys. My 13yr old had me make him a sub sandwich with all the extras on it. Yes my mouth drooled while making it, but I stood strong!!! My 8yr old wanted chicken nuggets and fries which are still in the oven. I can smell the aroma in the air, so I take out my MC mixture and began to drink my 2nd dose of 20.oz. My day thus far as been good. I’m not sure if I’m hungry, or if I think I’m hungry since I know I can’t/won’t eat! Well I di chew a piece of gum @ 12:30pm. I chewed it for about 20min. Extra Dessert Delights Sugerfree Gum Mint Choc. Chip Flavor….:)

  8. CORRECTION CORRECTION….I DID NOT DO 1/4tsp (2x)…..I did 1/4tsp(1x in my 20 oz mixture). 1/10 is like 1/2 of 1/4 , so 1/10(2x) is = to 1/4(1x) πŸ™‚

  9. Ok…So I thought I would give the MC a try. I have looked at many posts/blogs/conversations regarding the MC, and what I found out, is that I need to try for myself, since everyone’s body different. Here is the beginning of my MC Journey:

    Last night(9:45pm EST) I drank 1 cup of Organic Smooth Move Senna Herbal Stimulant Laxative Tea($5.25 for a box of 16 wrapped Tea Bags)purchased @ a local health foods store.

    Slept as normal. Woke up this morning felt normal energy, and less hunger(normally, I wake up with my stomach growling, but not this morning). Did not hop right out of bed, just the normal moving around while watching the AM news. I think about 6:00am I had my first BM. Nothing crazy, no cramps or sweats, just felt like I had to go. Not a loose BM, but it did come with a nice sound effect! πŸ™‚ It felt good, and made me start to look fwd to the 1st day of My MC. I started walking around the house doing some small task, when I felt slight stomach cramping. I waited to see if it would be gas or if I need to move towards the bathroom. Well I had to run fast to the bathroom! = 2nd BM of the morning(approx. 7:00am). Felt even better after that.
    Now it was time to face my day. 2 kids & hubby, all awake and ready to eat. I’m excited about My MC, however I was already thinking in my head, what foods can I eat while on the MC!! It’s hard to not think about food, when your cooking and watching everyone around you enjoy it!! But I stayed focused.

    I stared drinking My MC @ approx. 8:30am(DAY1) So this is what I’m doing. I purchased a Rubbermaid 20.0z water bottle with filter ($8.99) Thus allowing me to have 2 servings at once.

    4tsp(doubled since I’m using a 20.oz water bottle)Santa Cruz Organic Pure Lemon Juice(16oz bottle $4.95) *think I might switch to fresh lemons once I finish this bottle.
    4tsp(doubled since I’m using a 20.oz water bottle)Coombs Family Farms Organic Maple Syrup Grade B(12fl oz. $13.69).
    1/10tsp Ground Cayenne Pepper(umm so yeah, did not have a 1/10tsp, so I just did 1/4tsp 2x) LOL…just seemed like it would work!(I’m going to increase the amt of Cayenne Pepper in my next batch. I like the spicy taste). McCormick Ground Cayenne Pepper(1 oz $4.99 @ local grocery store)
    10.oz filtered water(doubled since I’m using a 20.oz water bottle) Poland Spring Distilled Water(1gal. $1.89) I will be using regular tap water when I finish this bottle, since my water bottle has a filter in it.

    It’s 10:25am right now. I’m not hungry, my kids and hubby ate food in front of me, and I was good. I have about 5oz left in my 20.oz bottle. Not hungry at all, but I did open the cabinet to get something out, and eyed a box of flatbread wheat thins I just bought!! WILLPOWER…WILLPOWER….WILLPOWER!!!!!! I’ll check in tomorrow!!

    I am on day 3 of MC and so far I feel o.K. I have never done this before and I am a little bit scared about harmful side effects. I was reading a website on the internet stating that due to imbalance of electrolytes or something like that master cleanse can cause cardiac arrest. I don’t want to believe that this is true but I wanted to hear from you on this. Also, do people lose muscle mass during the MC? My legs feel a little bit like a gel so I was wondering if my muscles become less toned? If yes, will I gain the muscle strengh/tone back once I am done from the MC?

  12. I am on Day 6…Feeling good, great energy, but I am feeling cold today. My skin is feeling like silk! I am doing some nice things for myself today, and booked a Facial for tomorrow. I have dropped 6 lbs..I am only doing the salt water…and I read about someone using Psylium Husk…shoud I be doing that as well? Please respond!

  13. Great tip here. I never thought of it, why not drink water whenever you feel hungry. Water is not fat, is a cleansing agent and can also make you feel full. I really want to lose weight but I’m looking for the natural way of losing those extra pounds. I am really glad I chanced upon this post. I will most definitely try this out.   14. HI, I am on the 3rd day of the mc. I’m supper tired, with 4 kids 11,5,3, and 18 months at home, thats not a good thing. I also watch a 2 yr old during the day. Last night I was up at least 6 times in the bathroom. I soo want to quit, especially when the kids are eating yummy food. My husband is out of town on a fishing trip, thats a good thing because he would try to sabattoge me and make me eat LOL! I am going to try and stick it out. Good Luck to everyone

  15. I’m on day two… and I am literally about to die here. I went to the gym last night and did an hour and a half of extreme cardio! I had never felt greater in my life. But right now I’m so close to quiting. I have no idea how anyone can get the salt and water down in the morning. I’ve tried everything and I still vomit when i get it close to my mouth. The drink is literally grossing me out i can’t drink enough to give me the energy i need. I need advice!!! And I had the most insane food dream last night… hahaha

  16. Day 6

    Man oh man today was tough! Days 1, 2, and 3 were fine. Day 4 was super hard…I was super depressed and all I wanted to do was eat. Today is day 6 and this morning sucked! I woke up around 7 am feeling super weak, faint, and agitated. I did the SWF around 10 and felt much better. However I am still thinking about food way more than i want to be. My positive attitude that i’ve had since day one has almost disappeared. I considered doing 8 days of the cleanse…but I know I have the will power to do 10. Frigg….Oh well…its good for me and I gotta stick to it.

  17. AGNES!! i found grade b maple syrup in Whole Foods, in any location they’ll probably have it. Also grade a dark amber works too, or agave nectar if you’re diabetic, all found at Whole Foods or some health food shops (just call ahead)

  19. My reasoning for beginning the cleanse was a lil different! My roommate decided to follow her co-worker in the challenge and I decided to join in bc we live together n it would only be fair for me to be enduring the challenge w a partner @ home so that we could be each others support! Also so we wouldn’t tempt each other w food while we were @ home!
    I like a good challenge n wanted to put this cleanse to the test ~ I just have bunch of tid bits of info that I’d like to add that I haven’t read on others posts:
    1. If ur going to be successful w the cleanse; definately do it w a partner, preferably the person or ppl w whom u live w!
    2. It’s only been easier for us bc I’m in event promotions and my roommate has a Chef position which has been super tough for her, but we have unique schedules that have allowed us to get through the cleanse easier than if we had a 9 to 5
    3. It’s a good idea to b alone alot while cleansing bc you will b reflecting and adjusting to a different lifestyle much different from your usual one. For example, I’m used to planning and organizing dinners for friends and making food and having wine and I spent alot of time surrounding those parties so you will have alot of time on your hands to read and write and watch some flicks. This week alone I had to cancel a charity fund raiser in fear of being tempted by food and cocktails n wine bc that’s what my friend Jasmyn and I enjoy when we’re together, a sushi dinner w one of my besties and her Mother with whom I adore bc that’s what we do when all 3 of us get together is make a yummy cheese plate and drink copious amounts of delicious vintage vino and a massive bday party last night bc when the 25 of us rented chalet in Collingwood for NYE this year we had flip cup championships, and I was apart of the 12 person Champs of course and then in the mornings I made my bf and I brie grilled cheese with sliced pears and tomatoe chutney for breakfast!! So, as a foodie, I have really felt the adjustment but it’s been a good one!
    I have more forward looking thoughts to plan out the next day just so that I could get excited about thinking of it so that I could essentially get through that day!
    4. It IS TRUE, you really won’t be hungry but they say whatever you are craving, you are probably detoxifying at that moment. To be honest, I really have been craving a nice dark leafy green salad with white balsamic and olive oil and some tuna, also some miso soup and some savory crepes and a broccoi cassarole w broccoi soup and grated old cheddar and whole wheat bread crumbs!
    5. Interesting factoid for ya’ll: the first time I took the Sea Salt Water flush @ 4 pm on day 2 and I went # 2 a whopping 24 times ~ actually, I counted! It was truly amazing!
    6. We both found alot of nights our stomaches were cramped and we had to get up to go # 2 a large number of times and we’ve been going through a crap load of tp lol crap load but yeah 4 rolls in 5 days!!
    7. I’m a vegetarian so I have a very healthy diet and I bike and play tennis in the summers and I began snow boarding this winter and we’ve begun some hot yoga classes another one tomorrow moring! So I’ve been lucky w the cleanse but I did have hot bowel movements within those first 24 times which indicates that I was passing a large number of toxins at that time, and I had assumed that it was obviously bc of the cayenne???
    8. The cayenne gives you instant energy bc it increases oxygen to your blood stream and speeds up your metabolism, my face usually gets red hot from my first few sips bc I add about a half a tbls to each 1.5 litre water jug! The most the better, oh and it also cuts through the toxic mucus!
    9. I’m on day 5 today and just finishing up my Senna tea and salt water flush and I’m off to bed!
    10. I’m going to go to yoga tomorrow morning and then decide it I want to continue with the cleanse further, but if I don’t I can only drink oj and grapefruit and some home made vegetable soup! I think I’ll opt for that option and continue w the salt water flush and senna tea and still drink the lemonade mixture once I get back on track with my proper diet!

  20. Hello all, I am ending on day 5 i drank my tea 4 2nite. However It has been hard ass hell not to eat I did jud incorporate watermelon into my diet when it gets unbearable because I figured its mostly water anyways n it helps me from eating “real” solids plus its fruit so if that helps anyone. I’m going on the whole Ten days n 3 off so 7 more to go . I’ve lost 7 lbs n feel great.

  21. Day three. and Im hungry.. I mean i cant even imagine going home right now to watch my family have dinner. but im determined to make it another day. AAHHH this is getting hard. i need to stay busy.

  22. Day two for me and it is really hard. I really just want to go eat a sandwich. I am at work now and have already drank 64oz of my drink. Now all i get to look forward to is the SWF. YUCK. Well hopefully I will not give into temptation, but time will only tell.

  23. Hello all. I am on day six. The fist 2 days were great. Day Three was full of cravings for foods I don’t normally eat . I really had to use my willpower to get through the day. Day 4 & 5 were the bet that I have ever felt in my life and very little hunger. Day 6 has been ok. I woke up feeling great. Right now, I am feeling hungry. I think this is because I didn’t use enough maple syrup. I was getting sick of the taste and omitted quite a bit from my drink. Big mistake! I will definitely suck it up and make sure that I make the drink as told.

  25. This is the end of day 6 for me. I think I am doing great. when I started, at the end of the first day the hunger was unbearable I had to force myself to bed early. Day two was a lot better. My job takes up alot of my time so I just plan when to have my lemonade (because I work at a resort and live on the property it is a bit easy for me). In the morning I drink my sea salt solution to begin my day then I have two glasses of Lemonade as breakfast. At lunch time I dont bother to go to the dining room or sit with friend I would go to my room and have another two glasses for lunch. I usually work very late so at 5 when I am to quit work I go to my room and have another two glasses and come back to my desk and do some work. When I am going to bed I will have the last glass along with my laxitive tea then go to bed. I found that this really help me to stay focus. I agree with Raylen; think of it as a cleanse and not a depravation of food that really works.

  26. it’s the end of day 6 for me. i stopped drinking the tea after day 3 because it was giving me cramps. i guess i was detoxing that night because i woke up in the middle of the night sweating, cramping and dry heaving all while umm “releasing.” once i was finished, i went back to bed and fell right asleep like nothing ever happened! i felt fine after that so i decided to stick with the cleanse and now i’m on the downward slide to the end!! i probably would’ve quit but i did some research before starting and what i experienced was what other people described as detoxing.

  27. I started Monday and ended Monday night :{. But today has been the first full day on the Cleanse and I feel pretty good!!! I am setting small goals, like do it for 2 days and see if I can go longer.

  28. Day four for me. Barbara F., I didn’t know you about the psyllium husk powder and wheatgrass. How much can you take a day? It might help distract me from the fact that I’m not eating anything solid. Thanks for the tips Raylen.

  29. Today was day 6 lost .8 of a pound so total I have lost 8.4 lbs. in 6 days. I got good results today from the pysllium husk powder that I took yesterday so I did 2 of those drinks today and the 2 wheatgrass drinks along with the lemonade drinks I am glad the MC introduced these secrets because it really helps you to not be hungry and get better results with cleaning out the colon. I have been thinking about what I’m going to do different when I start eating and have come up with a good plan. What I am wondering is where is everyone? Is there anyone still on besides the couple of us that are writing in?
