The Master Cleanse is a diet that makes changes to the way you look and feel very quickly, but not instantly.
Let me explain.
I’m seeing some people get discouraged because they’re not passing large amounts of impacted fecal matter and other internal crud on the first day or two. The detoxing process will take a few days to before it starts to work. And when it does start working it won’t necessarily all come pouring out of you in one giant bowel movement.
In most cases it’s more of an erosion process similar to the way a river erodes the rock beneath it.
Most master cleanse users will have frequent, smaller bowel movements that are mostly dark liquid, chaff, mucus, with some solid particles, and maybe 2 or 3 I-can’t-believe-that-came-out-of-me eliminations. And those big eliminations almost always come latter in the cleanse (after day 5).
What I would like readers to take away from this post is that massive eliminations are not the sole indicator for whether or not the master cleanse is working. Going on the master cleanse will detox your body, but it is a process that happens over the course of a few days and not all at once.

I have a son with toxic poisoning in his system so bad now that he cannot stand lotions , house-hold cleaners , exhaust fumes and much more. These all cause him to go dizzy and wonky if you know what I mean. They are now trying to find an area that has cleaner air to breath. Any advise would surely be appreciated, he is 47 yrs,old
Here's my answer! Thanks... I was wondering why I wasn't having "the mother load" by day 4. :)
I started with the 2 day raw veg and fruit, have done the elimination tea at night, and have done 9 days of the MC. Is this normal
1. My tongue is still white, although I feel excellent. Is this ok?
2. I have lost 13 lbs and look good and lean except my belly roll has not gone away - weird! My legs and arms and butt are lean, but my belly has this lower roll! Will my body burn this fat before it eats at my muscle?
3. I gag on the salt water flush, so I am going to try leaving fresh ginger slices, fresh garlic cloves and lemon grass with the sea salt and water over night to see if it will resemble asian broth. Will this still work?
Hi Raylen - thanks for your brilliant website. I started doing the master cleanse 6 days ago after finding info on it from another website. What a pity I didn't come across your site sooner! I plan to finish tomorrow, on my 7th day, because I have plans at the weekend and need to able to at least eat salads. I was feeling a bit guilty about stopping 3 days short, but having read on your site that between 5-10 days is reasonable, I feel better. Like Annie & her husband, I have not had any major eliminations (kind of a disappointment, actually!) and my tongue today is whiter than it has ever been. I'm now wondering whether I actually should complete the full 10 days in order to get more detox going, or if 7 days will be sufficient for now. I am loving the cleanse so much that I will definitely do it again on a regular basis - I've just read all your books and reports and may even try to do a 1-day cleanse every week. What is the recommended waiting time between full cleanses?
Thanks for this post, my husband and I are doing the Master Cleanse together and bowel movements have been a big part of the conversation : ) This gives us comfort that we are still in the range of "normal" even though we haven't had big eliminations. We had expectations that we'd see more happening in that department.
As well, neither of us had drastic weight loss so it's easy to think the Cleanse "isn't working" right for us. Others have said they had alot of weight loss and major elimination by day 5. But we'll both carry on and trust the process.
