Question -  I speak with a lot of people during the day,can I chew gum or eat a breath mint while on the cleanse? Though I brush and floss and brush my tongue, my breath stinks on the cleanse. I don’t want to scare people away with bad breath.

Answer - I’ve actually found that the cleanse make my breath smell better, but if you’re going to chew gum I would go with sugar free gum

Question -  oh yea’ question……i work from 8-4:30 how big of a problem is this going to be? anyone doing this & working outside they’re home?

Answer - It’s hard to say. If your job requires a lot of physical activity staying on the Master Cleanse is going to be challenging. I’m not saying it can’t be done, but you will feel more fatigued then usual.

With that said I think most of the people who do the Master Cleanse work outside the home, and you just have to pay attention to your body. I would never recommend you push yourself so far doing the Master Cleanse that your work performance suffers.

If you find it hard to work and do the Master Cleanse I would suggest planning the cleanse around the holidays when you have time off from work.

Question -  HEY EVERYONE! SOMEBODY AT WORK JUST TOLD ME THAT I CAN EAT SOME ALMONDS WITH THIS DIET, IS THAT TRUE? ALSO, I WANTED TO ASK YOU RAYLEN IF YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS DIET THE WHOLE TEN DAYS WITHOUT EATING? PLEASE LET ME KNOW…IF THAT’S THE CASE, I THINK I CAN DO IT. JUST KNOWING THAT ALL THIS WONDERFUL PEOPLE ARE ALSO DOING THE DIET EXCITES ME AND MAKES ME WANT TO DO IT EVEN MORE! GOOD LUCK TO YOU RAYLEN AND EVERYONE ELSE!!!!:)

Answer - I would not eat almonds on the cleanse. Almonds are high in fat and will interfear with the cleansing process.

Question -  I started the master cleanse yesterday. I’m not at all hungry but I’m having the worse headaches! Is this normal?

Answer - It’s good that you’re not hungry, but to answer your question yes, it’s normal to have headaches. I like to take a hot shower, or go to bed early if possible. That seems to help.

Question -  Do you prefer to do the salt water cleanse in the evenings when you get home?

Answer - For me the evening works best for the salt water flush.

Question -  Can you use limes one day and lemoms the next or do you have to stick to lemons once you have begun with them.

Answer - Yes limes will work fine with the Master Cleanse.

Question -  I wanted to start it but I was wondering about how safe it is for people with Diabetes and high blood pressure.

Answer - The Master Cleanse can help relieve many health conditions, but it’s always best to check with your doctor if you’re concerned about a preexisting health problem. For Diabetes I would substitute the maple syrup with molasses.

Question -  Is it ok to work out during the cleanse?

Answer -  It’s okay to work out just don’t push yourself too hard. I would avoid weight training, but some light cardio is fine.

————————————————–

Question - What kind of flavoring do you add to the drink? It does get tiring after while, drinking the same thing daily. Please help!!!

Answer - I use herbal teas. You can find them in many different fruit flavors.

Question - I am in Minnesota and not sure where I find the teas? Also is there a liquid form to the cayenne pepper? I tried doing the cleansing once and didn’t make it because no matter what little amt of the pepper I put in it was too hot for me. One more question? When you say you mix in herbal tea to add variety do you make the tea and add the other ingredients to it? Silly questions I know but I really want this to work for me but get confused.
Thanks

Answer - You can find the laxative teas at most grocery stores sold under the name “laxative tea” or “smooth move”. I know they make liquid cayenne pepper, but I haven’t seen it sold anywhere I shop. I brew the tea and lemonade separate then mix them after the tea has steeped.

Question - A question: I’m on medication for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and hormone replacement therapy. Would I have to quit taking these if I start the cleanse?

Answer - I never suggest anyone stop taking prescription drugs. With so many different types of medication it’s hard to say how it will affect the cleanse, but if a doctor prescribed it I think it’s best to not stop using it.

Question - I would like to know how to start the cleansing like what to do for the pre-cleansing procedure. I would also like to know if i can use herbal laxative tea instead of the sea salt and is maple syrup grade A can be used as a substitute for grade B?

Answer - For pre-cleansing you can go on a Raw food diet, or do colon cleansing. I try to use both salt water and laxative tea, but if you can’t get the salt water down it’s fine to use the laxative exclusively. Grade A maple syrup won’t work nearly as well for the master cleanse. It goes through a different refinement process and doesn’t provide the same nutritional value as grade B maple syrup.

One of my friends said that she is contemplating doing the cleanse again but she has some concerns. She used it a few years ago and she is wondering if her body can be overloaded with acid as she experienced a lot of body cramps.

[...] I did get a dinner invite from a friend today to go out for Pho, which is this amazing Vietnamese noodle dish. I declined, but it’s important to know that these little temptations are going to pop up a lot over the next 10 days. I learned something today in day 4 of my cleanse. When the book says take it easy the first few days it is not kidding. I worked out with weights very hard today and felt great right after but about on hour later, I got serious tunnel vision, (driviving down the road I could literally only see my lane on a 6 lane highway, I had to pull off the road) really fuzzy headed and a massive headache. I thought I was stroking out. I made it to work but had to breakdown and get a candy bar and some nuts because I could barely function. I will be back on the cleasne tomorrow but will be eating a salad with no dressing each night because the laxatives are not working. After I ate that little bit everything broke lose I think I was detoxing ok but it was just sitting there. I think the salad will keep things moving. I was drinking 2 bottles of salt water and the tea with no results. Becareful to watch the amount of exercise this cleanse seems to effect what you can do.

I find it so hard to do the salt wash so I mix about 2/3 cup of water w/salt Take a big swallow of saltwater, then drink some plain water so my whole 32oz. dont have the salt taste. This is my second time doing this. I think that it’s great and I do loose some pounds. I just need to eat better when I come off.

  15. Marsha on March 30, 2007 12:05 pm

I found liquid cyanene pepper how do you measure that compared to the ground cyanee pepper? I mix 64oz of drink for the day.

  16. Kenny on March 30, 2007 11:15 pm

    Raylen,

You mentioned that molasses might be a good replacement for the maple syrup if one is diabetic. What do you think about Agave Nectar? I know Agave Nectar has a low glycemic index. Does molasses as well?

Also, thanks for the tip on doing the salt water cleanse in the evening, that will work a lot better for me. Great blog!!! Thanks!!!

  18. Linda & Karry on April 1, 2007 5:42 pm

I am thinking ahead since it’s only my 2nd day on the cleanse, but.. How do you properely get off the cleanse when the time’s up? Last time I went back to old eating habbits and soon gained all the weight back and didn’t feel well again. What and how much should we eat when this is over? We have to learn how to not clog up again!!

  19. Lisa on April 2, 2007 2:50 pm

Hey Raylen, is it okay to use black strap molasses instead of the syrup? I have some and I like the taste better. Also, I have read the book about coming off but will you give us an idea about what to consume on Sat? I am going to get psyched up for something on Day 11 and would like to know your favs outside of water and oj. Thank you!

What goes into the salt water laxitive? I want to do the cleanse but have been a chicken I found this and will follow you thru and then possibly try in on my own with help from friends I hope. Do you really gain all the weight back after you get finished?/?

Hi, can I eat a lemon with sea salt on this cleanse? Will it affect the process? It is the same ingredients afterall?

  23. Sara on April 3, 2007 7:16 pm

Is it really that bad to drink caffeine while doing the cleanse?

  24. Edwina on April 4, 2007 11:26 am

I am so happy to have others to chat with who are experiencing the same weight loss experience at the same time! I have tried this before solo and had some success. So far I am on my seventh day and have changed to the molasses since I am diabetic. I had one scare a couple of nights ago when lethargy took over and I was alone. I took my blood sugar and found it to be 57!!

I hadn’t drunk my lemonade for many hours. I called a cousin who’s an RN and she suggested I eat a small amount of fruit if that ever happened again. (I resorted to eating two small health food potato chips) The blood sugar went up to 113 after the chips and a new batch of lemonade.

  25. Marsha on April 6, 2007 3:15 am

I found the liquid cayene pepper how do you use that compared to the ground pepper.

I just wanted to say that I’ve already completed the master clease and it’s the best detox I ever done. Not only did I loose 17lb but the mental and physical clarity I received was tremendous. I have been off the detox over three weeks and I’m continuing to loose weight. Don’t get me wrong I do have to work at it, but I eat alot better foods now and I excercise on a regular basis. I just wanted to say that the master cleanse got me on the path of a great start.

Is it possible to take the cayenne pepper for the whole day in one shot and then drink the lemonade (without the pepper) for the rest of the day?

By the way, thank you for such an informative and detailed site. It has been a wonderful resource to me. :)

    Hi
I am considering the Master Cleanser diet. I have joined a cycling club and we go cycling every Saturday (9am-5pm), and I will have limited access to a restroom. How advisable is it to do the MC in this case? Should I start on a certain day such that the “hardest” day does not fall on a Saturday? Please reply ASAP, so that I can start the diet ASAP!!

I have a friend who is doing the cleanse. She is on her 7th day. My question is that she is still drinking her coffee, is that okay? She is drinking it black but, I didn’t know if that was okay. I amplanning on going on it in a few days. Also, I have so many things going on in my life I don’t know if I can do the whole 10 days. Is it okay to cut it short and if so, how long? Thanks,

Hi,I am on my four day of cleansing. I have eaten a little something do I start over
or do I keep going will this stop the cleansing from work

  32. Penelope on April 17, 2007 1:36 pm

I am on day 5 of the cleanse and I skipped the laxative tea last night. Since day 4 morning I haven’t had any bowel elimination. Is this because I skipped the laxative tea? Usually with the salt water flush I go within the hour but nothing has happened since before yesterday’s flush.

  33. Colleen on May 4, 2007 11:25 pm

I am finishing Day 1. This is my 4th time. I completed 10 days each time before. I don’t seem to lose weight until Day 7, but I lose 7-8 lbs by the time it’s over.

The first time I didn’t gain the weight back for a longer time. Each time it seems to come back sooner. I am considering going 15 days or longer to lose all the weight I need, about 15 lbs. I am not hungry for the first couple days, but I am starving frequesntly after that.

I thought I heard you could take something to curve the appetite. Can I take something to help curve the hunger to help me last more days?

I also thought I heard there are things you can cheat on. I have been cheat-free the other 3 times.

Also, all 4 cleanes have taken place over 1 year. Family does not approve.

    Thanks for the help,
    Colleen

  35. Sy on June 1, 2007 1:22 pm

Today is my first day doing the Master Cleanse. I have some questions. Can I take Hoodia to supress my appetite? Can I take Fish Oil? I have an allergy to the sun and the fish oil seems to help. Being the middle of summer I’m a little worried about not taking it. Also, it it okay to take a multi-vitamin? So far I’m not hungry, but I’m only on day one. I hope that lasts!

  36. Julie on June 27, 2007 3:52 pm

My neighbor does the cleanse once a year, and she told me she uses agave syrup in place of the maple syrup. It has a lower glycemic index. I am wondering if you have an opinion on using agave or not! I noticed that maple syrup has vitamins and minerals and I don’t know if agave does or not.

  37. Mary on September 3, 2007 8:42 pm

I started the cleanse today and couldn’t even keeep down the mix. Let alone the salt water, it made me puke and i opted for the tea.

For the mixture, i think i put too much cayenne, cause that is all I can taste and it tastes gross. How cayne do i actaully have to use for a serving. I used 1/2 tsp for a 60 oz serving…way too much i think.

Hi!! I am new to this forum..Please I hope the monitor of this forum will please help me. I have been on this “cleanse” now for a straight 9 days. No cheating at all. I only started taking the herb tea about on day 4 because I simply did not know about it. Here is my question / problem!!! : I have NOT had a bowl movement at all in all of these nine days! I am fairly thin, did not eat very much in general before this cleanse, but I do have extra weight on me that I hoped would melt away on this fast..it has not. I feel Very tired, very Hungry, & at this point not to glad I am on this becuase I literally have not seen nor felt any noticable results. I am also at this point quite scared..because after nine days of fasting / cleansing, there should be Some change in my physical appearance & mental calrity & well-being - there is not. Also I am scared because since I have not been eliminating, where are all of the toxins “going” that are supposedly being “challeneged”??? Please I really hope someone helps me, I was going to stay on this for 15 days, but tonight I feel I must end this tomorrow. I read someone’s comment above who has the same problem & said he started eating salad at night & that that helped move things along..please Moderator, please get back to me asap if you can.

    Thank you &
    Take care.

P.S. to above entry../(same person..) P.S. I forgot to say I was also very regular before I went on this master cleanse. I went once a day every day in the mornings..I only ate about one meal a day in the evenings usually so that seemed to be alright.

    Thank you.

Hiya, I haven’t started the master cleanse yet but am planning to start it tomorrow. However, I have just a few questions. From a video, I found out that the salt water flush can be taken anytime of the day (whenever convenient)? is this true?..and also, could I do this for the laxative tea aswell? I was wondering (since I’m in my last year of high school - don’t worry im 19, old enough)I have to get up at 6 and come back at 4. So could I take the salt-water flush after 4? and then the laxative tea just before bed time? Would this be O.K? Also, can I bring the lemon drink mixture with me to school so that I can drink it all the time? Would I go to the toilet though if i did this? I don’t want to be asking for toilet breaks all the time!
I know that’s alot of questions, but please help! :) thank you.
