Introduction

by Raylen on December 5, 2006

My name is Raylen Sterling,

Growing up I was not in the best of health. I was raised by a single mom who did the best she could, but often was so busy that at least one meal a day was take out or fast food. For snacks I would eat chips and soda.

As a result I was overweight as a kid. Actually I was obese. I remember my pediatrician telling my mom that if I kept gaining weight at my current pace I would likely not live to see 35 years old. As a result I was put on a diet, but after a few weeks of trying to keep me on a healthy diet eating in our house went back normal.

I was about 100 pounds overweight by the time I was 19 when I decided to take massive action, and finally lose weight. You might be wondering what was it that would drive a 19 year old to finally go on a diet. Was it good health? No, it was girls. It might not be the most noble reason, but for a teenager it was a powerful motivator.

I did the thing everyone tells you not to do to lose weight. I slashed my food intake to about 600 calories a day, and boy did I lose a lot of weight. 11 pounds in the first week. Close to 70 pounds after 3 months. But it was taking it’s toll.

I was famished, sleeping about 11 hours a day, and I was light headed.

My current 600 calorie a day diet was not good for me so I decided to eat a healthy 2,500 calorie a day diet, which for a guy like me who likes to workout, and lift weights should be perfect. But the only problem was the 3 months spent starving myself had lowered my metabolism, so when I starting eating a “normal” diet I still ended up gaining weight (about 35 pounds).

That weight loss attempt taught me a valuable lesson. I learned to never jeopardize my health in pursuit of good health. It sounds like common sense, but every day I see people taking drastic, even dangerous measures to achieve good health. Even with the Master Cleanse there are people who stay on this restrictive diet for longer than a month!

Today, I’m proud to say that I have lost weight, and I am healthy. By using the Master Cleanse for what it’s intended for – to purge unhealthy waste from my body, and help break my junk food addiction I was able to get my weight under control and finally feel good about myself.

The Master Cleanse is not easy, and if you want lasting results you’ll need to eat healthy after the cleanse, but the beauty of the Master Cleanse is how much improvement you will see in a short period of time.

If you’re curious about the Master Cleanse take a minute and read some of the comments below which are left by people from all walks of life, and feel free to add your own comments – I would love to hear from you.

Day 2:

Ok..I woke up at 12am struck with hunger. It only took a sip of water to resolve it and reading through the website again.

At 5.30am in the morning woke up with great energy and lots of bathroom calls. The Tea does wonders flashing out the system. I started at 208lbs and a day later I now weigh 203.4 ..how amazing is that. I know its water and toxins but it does good for the soul.

It’s now 10.36am at work and I started thinking about coffee etc…and I am thinking…sip the lemon drink and I will be fine. Almost through half the day. Post later.

I just clicked on the “Blog Master Cleanse” for the first time since May and saw my 10 May 2008, 5:41 pm 321 Bobbi Blog and sad to say I did not follow the After Cleanse Plan and although I no longer have a scale, sure I have gained everything back :-( . So tonight (7/14/08) is the end of my 6th day and this time plan to stay on until the end of the month or longer. I want to stay on as long as possible to help with the problems I have with food. In April 2005, I stopped alcohol, but replaced this addiction with food. With alcohol you can simply stop ever having it again – not so with food. Therefore, I am back on the Cleanse along with using Rational Recovery, a plan I used to end my alcohol addition http://www.rational.org/.
Has anyone else used the Master Cleanse for food addition? Good luck all, Bobbi

Today is July 16, 2008 and I am getting myself into mode for starting the mastercleanse on August 15,2008. The reason I have set my date so far in advance is I have requested a longer weekend off from work so I can see the effects that this will have on me. I come from a family of many health issues. Both my parents have diabetes and I was told that I will get this when I am older I just can decide from changing my lifestyle to if I am going to use insulin or pills or control the diabetes with exercise. I definitely dont want to be on insulin (cant stand needles). I already had my thyroid removed several years ago and am on synthetic medication for the rest of my life. There are also every heart problem imaginable in my family, and my sister had one of her breasts removed due to breast cancer, I have also had several abnormal paps thoughout my life and even had my cervix frozen. I am looking to starting the mastercleanse in Aug. I am also dating this farther due to wanting to quit smoking as well so I get the full effect of this master cleanse. Wish me luck and I will keep posted when I start. This is for me and I want to live my life healthy!!!

Today is my first day of the Master Cleanse and so far so good. I am not over weight but could lose a couple of pounds around my mid section. When I found out about this wonderful program I thought, why not make my self healthy while losing this unwanted flab. I’m excited to see the outcome and want so badly to feel better inside and out. Food is one thing that I love. Having a 2-1/2 year old around and making meals for him is hard. I used to always take “just a bite” when I was preparing meals and then finished what he wouldn’t eat. I’m dedicated to making this work and realize that it’s going to be extremely hard. It’s something that I just need to prove to myself that I can do. I know that I’ll feel and great and accomplished in the end.

Hi Everyone,
I just got done reading the master clean secrets and decide to change my start date to Monday July 20th instead of tomorrow. I still got to get rid of a lot of food I am glad you mention that Raylen cause I was so going to leave all the food still there. Thinking we would be fine…:)
I am really excited about doing this my boyfriend is also doing the cleanse at the same time. Since we have been together we both have gained some weight we are not overweight but we need to eat more healthier… I usually start my day with a diet coke and have a few throughout
the day. I really need to change my eating habits I am 41 and realize my body isn’t how it use to be. I also want to live a more healthier lifestyle… Now it’s time for me to clear out all my old habits of unhealthy food. I have to admit I am a bit nervous I have never done something like this before in my life… Take care everyone

Starting the master cleanse today!! I am looking to loose some weight prior to graduation in Sept. I dont start a new assignment until Aug 1st… so I thought this would be a great time to jump in. I will keep a log detailing my progress and hopefully by the end of this tour I will have lost a few pounds and at the same time cleaning my system out. Good luck to everyone and I will keep you all in my prayers.

Today is my tenth day on the master cleanse and my body is and has been feeling the benefits of this detox since day one, however I still have not removed the fecal waste that was described in the instructions, is that common? I’m feeling fine with no side effects and I’m using the bathroom do to the laxatives it’s just not they way in which it was described. Ant thoughts?

Lani July 24, 2008 at 8:31 pm

My boyfriend and I just started today doing pretty good trying really hard not to quit. At times I have this fluffy feeling. Well at least it is almost 8pm and the day is almost over. Hope I can make it through the night… I don’t want to quit….

Lani July 25, 2008 at 7:32 pm

Having a better day today… More energy and no cravings for my old junk food…

Anonymous July 27, 2008 at 7:00 am

Too much, much too much printed material … I just can’t spend the time to get to the nitty gritty. How good can it be if so much verbage has to sell it.

Why oh why can’t an intro be short, sweet and to the point

All the very best,

Patsi

Hello. I am on the second day of the cleanse for the first time. it is tough! I just realized I am not using purified water… Should I quit?

Dawn July 31, 2008 at 7:36 am

hi all,
I’ve tried the lemonade only to have a problem. I’ve had an allergic reaction to the maple syrup…. is there something else I can use in place of the maple syrup or is it possible to
leave it out? Help if you can please….

LYNNE August 1, 2008 at 6:42 pm

Hi!

I’m about to start my Master Cleanse but a little bit worried about the side effects. Will it damage my liver? Please advice.
Thanks

Aly Kat August 4, 2008 at 7:52 am

Hi!
I finished the 10 cleanse program Thursday. It’s a miracle for me. The easiest quite smoking program and I have tried none. I did the cleanse to maintain the good health I had. It really cleansed everything. I liked drinking the lemonade. I used organic limes when lemons couldn’t be found. I am enjoying vegatable soup in so many varieties. I can taste it. I don’t know if I’ll choose to eat meat again. I am now doing the oil pulling with sesame oil for a glow. I give thanks for the book just falling into life. Alice

Bill August 7, 2008 at 8:34 pm

Hi Raylen and All; My wife and I did the cleanse last month (july). I made it the full 10 days. It’s definetely one of the best things I’ve done to achieve good health. Could have gone longer except my wife had ended it after 5 days.. DARNE!!! This site was not available to me at that time. I beleive it would have helped her to have had it’s support. We are planning to do it again soon. Good luck and don’t give up. Friends in the Cleanse;
Bill and Linda

hi dear friends,
i’m about to start this diet and it seems everyone will be successfull and happy after it.
but im having some questions like:
1)what foods are allowed to take during this diet and the amount of the foods please?
2)how many times this liquid should be taken?
3)what if i dont add ((ground cayenne pepper)) to the drink? will it be still effective?(because i have no possibility to get it)
if anyone can help me in this 3 question i might say the person saves my life.
this is my mail address:
thank you so much

Jill August 22, 2008 at 10:07 am

I’m starting the cleanse on Monday & am so excited and determined. I think the hardest thing for me is going to be doing it w/o friends freaking out about me not eating…I don’t think most people I know would agree w/ this cleanse. I’m going to try my best just to keep the fact that I’m doing it to myself so I don’t get crap about it.

So excited to have this sight & support while doing it!

Jessica August 27, 2008 at 8:11 pm

Hello,
I’m about to start my 5th day on the cleanse…and although it hasn’t been the most comfortable couple of days, it hasn’t been as hard as everyone has made it out to be. In terms of hunger, I haven’t had any problems at all. the first two days i did have a pretty bad head ache, and i actually vomitted on the night of the second day. There was also a little bit of fatigue, but nothing a short 20 min. nap couldn’t fix. Today, on my fourth day, I have had no head aches and my energy has been back to normal. Practically half way done! Though i have to say, though I do not necessarily crave food, and i’m not hungry, i am getting a little bit tired of the taste of lemonade…but then again, that is something i’m willing to deal with. My mom and I have been doing this together, more for me than her because i’ve always had some constipation issues, and well, we thought this might help (instead of going to the dr. and just getting antibiotics…can’t afford them, and don’t really want them) So here’s hoping this fixes me up! (sorry if that was more info than you wanted to know:) )

Jennifer August 28, 2008 at 7:06 am

Last year I had 4 sinus infections and the last one left my face swollen on the left side – it looked like I had been beaten. At my wits end, I did some research on the Internet and found The Master Cleanse. I was taking 2 allergy shots a week. I did the cleanse in December of 2007 and February of 2008. As of January 4, 2008, I am shots and meds free. I haven’t been sick or had one allergy issue this year. The Cleanse has changed my life! I look forward to doing it twice a year.

Bobbi September 2, 2008 at 10:32 am

Well I’m on my 8th day today and am feeling great. I found that while i was drinking the laxative tea I was kinda feeling bloated, but for the last couple of days i’ve been doing the SWF and hey it does wonders. I won’t go into any details check it out 4 urselves. It’s been a hard 8 days. I’ve had to cook for my kids and not being able to eat well that’s another story. Yeah i look forward to doing this cleanse 3 times a year. the next time I’m aiming for 20 days. Good Luck to everyone and have a great cleanse.

jennkay September 3, 2008 at 8:24 am

I have bad IBS and the pain that comes with it is like labor
pains. I just want to know if this has any pain with it during the detox period and also will I be able to leave my house to go and pick up my son from school….I can’t leave if I am in the middle of having to eliminate waste and not able to control it. Thanks! J

Cherie September 4, 2008 at 11:00 am

Hi All,
I’m starting the MC on Sunday. One question, can you substitute the maple syrup? with Honey?

Lo September 5, 2008 at 6:43 pm

No it has to be Grade B maple syrup (NOT the average maple syrup from the supermarket). If you’re diabetic you can go to a health store and get molasses (sp) which can be used instead, but I’ve heard that it tastes better using the syrup.

Bill September 7, 2008 at 1:39 pm

Well I’ve finally started the MC. So far so good. I’m handling the hunger pretty well. The only thing I notice is that I feel sleepy a lot. Maybe my body is healing itself. We’ll see how everything goes in 9 days.

Betty Munywoki September 23, 2008 at 3:22 am

I tried the master cleanse for 3 days initially so that i may ease into the 1o day fast and already there has been great improvement!! I lost 2 pounds and i feel great! I plan on having this juice fasts at least 2days every week! I am so thankful!!

Shrea September 27, 2008 at 3:33 pm

This is my 3rd day I have been on the cleanse and already lost 2 lbs. I was reading a lot of the comments and questions so I thought I would share. I am using cayenne pepper capsules I got from Amazon with the lemonaid. The water with the maple syrup and lemon juice is good. You can easily drink it with herb tea and lots of water and you are not as hungry. I am also using psyllium husk fiber capsules called Fiber Therapy from Wal Mart, it helps fill you up and helps clean you out. Hope this helps

Thora October 4, 2008 at 1:48 pm

Hi

I have just purchased the books and have been reading through all the comments! I see a lot of people asking questions and cannot find the answers to their questions! Am i missing something?

Angela October 5, 2008 at 6:41 pm

I am trying to make enough to drink 6-7 cups a day for the entire week. How do I make enough for the receipe to make enough for these amount of days.

Linda Friesen October 8, 2008 at 1:17 pm

Hi thank you for having this on line. I have a problem with downloading your books. I could only get 19 page books and I could not get the other books. If you could help me that would be wonderful. I don’t know how else to contact you with the problem. I tried to press reply on the one you sent me, but I don’t know if that worked, because I have not heard back. I have started the cleanse, but I am afraid I am allergic to cajun, and the sea salt is there another way of doing it. I had to stop the cajun and sea salt, do to throwing it up and getting sick and weak. I have MS and the doctor told me there is things that my body will reject because of the medication, Rebif. The rest of the things are fine. If there is any al turnitives that would be great. Thank you Linda Friesen.

ginai October 23, 2008 at 10:36 pm

I will be starting the cleanse by Tuesday.

thank you., I have enjoyed the reading, and am so excited to start!

I have completed the master cleanse several times now, and sing it’s praises to many.
However, my Mom is hesitant to try it because she is in her 60’s.
I would like to know if there are any “age limits” to the master cleanse?
Also it would be helpful for me to share any blogs from women over 60 with her
Help if you can…

Thank you!
Jeremy

Deepa November 10, 2008 at 4:20 am

sorry if I’m repeating something peope may have already asked – I have two questions
(1) for making the lemonade – can be warm or must it be cold/hot?
(2) Instead of using decaff herbal tea to make the lemondae with is it okay to sip some tea instead of water the rest of the day?

Deepa November 12, 2008 at 4:21 am

when making a daily batch is there any rule to how it is stored – i.e. can I use food grade plastic jug?

pratichee November 13, 2008 at 12:31 pm

hey everyone,
i am starting my master cleanser tomorrow?.any suggestions? this is my first time and i am finally taking the plunge! need to lose 40 pounds. how many days should i do this? please help!!

Sarah November 14, 2008 at 6:26 am

Hi everyone. I hope someone give me some words of support.
After getting as much as information I could on line I decided to start with my mater cleanser for the very fist time. The first two days were fine, I did not even feel hungry, but when I got to the third I felt so tired and sleepy!! But I handled to get to the end of the day. And when I woke up on my fourth day I could not help it and I ate whatever I found in the kitchen (mostly cookies) I have to admit that Im a compulsive eater and I knew that this side of me was going to ruin my efforts sooner or later on this diet.
Now is lunch time, and Im here in the computer trying not to keep on thinking about food, because I really want to make it to the end of the diet. The thing is that I do not know if its worth it now that I “broke it” or not.
Thank you very much,
Sarah

Jeremy November 14, 2008 at 11:12 pm

Ahh, so many questions, not many answers???

C’mon isnt this board moderated or viewed by any “guru types”?

Please answer my question (385) Thank you.

ray November 20, 2008 at 11:00 am

i am on the mc this is day 14 I have lost 27 lbs i plan to stay on the diet at least 5 more days if anyone has had bad muscle cramps in the rib area i know its not on the diet but a few sips of tonic water helped to make the pain go away quickly

Barbara November 20, 2008 at 9:59 pm

I’m on my third day. No, you cannot have honey instead of maple syrup. The maple syrup has mineral your body needs. If you substitute, your body won’t have what it needs to function. That’s probably why some people faint. Yes there is an alternative to putting cayenne in the lemonade. Throw half a teaspoon in your mouth and drink it down with the lemonade. No, you cannot have a cigarette (certainly a silly question for someone trying to detox). The same thing goes for Tylenol, advil, asprin, naproxen sodium, etc, etc. Asprin causes ulcers!! The very thing this detox was created to cure! Yes, you have to do the saltwater flush. You must do it on an empty stomach or it won’t work. No, it is not okay to not poop for 3 days. If you can’t get to maple syrup, order it on Amazon.com. They have free shipping. If you make a lot of lemonade, store it in a non-plastic container. Plastic has toxins that actually make you gain weight. In fact, throw out all your plastics. Keep going, Sarah. Juice them lemons! Whoever’s making the lemonade with herbal tea in it, has the wrong recipe. Lemons, grade B maple syrup, purified/spring water, and cayenne pepper. Grade A had less minerals(before anyone asks). If u don’t want to buy water, buy a purifier. A reverse osmosis filter is about $200. Can you use Brita? NO!! Brita gets rid of parasites and minerals, not chlorine, arsnic, and flouride. And that reminds me. Buy Toms of Maine toothpaste or use baking soda and peroxide. Flouride is a carcenogen. What’s a carcenogen? Something that causes cancer. No, you cannot have sweet and low or equal or any other carcenogen to sweeten your tea/lemonade!! Its a detox!!! Yes, you can do it if you’re 60. Wise people get dirty, too. I hope that answered all the questions. Somebody had to answer them :-)
I’ve lost 5lbs in 3 days. I feel great. No, I’m not hungry and yes, the saltwater flush is a b!t€#. I wish everyone the best of health!!

Anonymous November 27, 2008 at 10:58 pm

I only want to lose about 5 vanity pounds, im not really “overweight” will this work for me?

rissa December 1, 2008 at 7:35 pm

rissa December 3, 2008 at 10:16 am

hello everybody! its me again, my second day on the cleanse i feel great, i wasn’t even really that hungry when i woke up, i took my sea salt flush this morning and am feeling good, i am now on my 2nd bottle of master cleanse and i got on the scale this morning and was amazed! i lost 5 pounds in just one day!! wow!! that motivated me to continue to keep on going, my goal is at least 10 days, but if i can I’ll go for the whole 2 weeks! my fiance lost like 4 pounds in one day, but he decided to get off today, so I’m in on this all by myself and have to suffer and watch him eat the great foods, that sucks but I’m determined to do this and to make my body better!! see u later and as always i’ll keep u posted!!

Gena December 3, 2008 at 3:27 pm

I began the master cleanse right before Thanksgiving and
lost about 4 pounds in about 3 days without getting hungry and really following the cleanse…..but every since after the holiday i’ve been trying to restart the cleanse and i am having a really hard time sticking to the program without cheating and taking a bite to eat here and there. And now the salt-water flush will not work at all with me. Today I began again and so far so goooood!!!!

Dorothy December 5, 2008 at 1:45 am

Those of you who have the new book on master cleanse, what are those foods to eat while doing it? I have the old version and nothing about eating is mentioned in it.

Andi December 7, 2008 at 3:51 pm

Call me dumb but why can’t I see ANY replies to folks emails or questions on this site? I am not very computer/internet literate !sorry !

Khadija December 9, 2008 at 10:24 pm

Thanks for this site. I am currently on day 8 and so far -11lbs, although i did slip up on days 2-4 lol 2-3 had handful of candied pecans and thats it, day 4 small bowl of pasta and cookie i know so bad. Originally was only going to do 10days but now i feel so good wanna go for 21days. have had lots of energy. my algergies are gone. i used to sneeze constantly esp. at work now thats gone. I did alot of research before i stared with has helped. And trader joes is my fav store. Its crazy on day 2 i was feening for some taco bell , but now i just want a big plate of steamed broccli, its weird how your desire for junk is comepletely gone . I plan to do this 2-3 times a year. Wish i wouldve started sooner. Been trying to lose the 20lbs i gained since starting my office job 3yrs ago .Sit at desk for 8-10hrs a day isnt good for your body. Now that i have started this and yoga i feel like i can def stick to it and make the changes i need, elimate processed foods , and sugar.

Khadija December 9, 2008 at 10:27 pm

Also i noticed alot of people have questions. you cannot use honey. Here is link to another fourum on the MC . Questions are answered quick. Check it out i visit alot for motivation on the first couple days lol

Hello everyone, I did a three day cleanse because I have lupus and had to have some kind of sustenance in my stomach for the medicine that I have to take every day. I had a pain in my right lung that disappeared when I was on the cleanse, but returned a few days after. I’m not sure if it will completely go away if I can find the strength to do a ten day cleanse.

I am tryign to find alternative ways to heal my body from my disease, and found out about this through a spa where I was given mineral pure water. She gave me a book on the master cleanse and I’ve been fascinated with detoxing since.

Jacky December 27, 2008 at 11:56 am

Hi,

I started my cleanse yesterday and that was hard. But there was also alot of Christmas treats around. haha Anyhow, I’ve done the salt thing twice yesterday, once today and now I’m having a laxative tea. And I still have not had a bowl movement!! I don’t get it. I don’t even feel like I have to go. I’m confused a little.
And the lemon drink…love it!! Especially the kick the cayenne gives it.

jazzii December 29, 2008 at 2:12 pm

Hi Jacky, Make sure you are using the right sea salt I buy mine at trader Joe’s and it works but I’ve also used the wrong one and had no results.
