Introduction

by Raylen on December 5, 2006

My name is Raylen Sterling,

Growing up I was not in the best of health. I was raised by a single mom who did the best she could, but often was so busy that at least one meal a day was take out or fast food. For snacks I would eat chips and soda.

As a result I was overweight as a kid. Actually I was obese. I remember my pediatrician telling my mom that if I kept gaining weight at my current pace I would likely not live to see 35 years old. As a result I was put on a diet, but after a few weeks of trying to keep me on a healthy diet eating in our house went back normal.

I was about 100 pounds overweight by the time I was 19 when I decided to take massive action, and finally lose weight. You might be wondering what was it that would drive a 19 year old to finally go on a diet. Was it good health? No, it was girls. It might not be the most noble reason, but for a teenager it was a powerful motivator.

I did the thing everyone tells you not to do to lose weight. I slashed my food intake to about 600 calories a day, and boy did I lose a lot of weight. 11 pounds in the first week. Close to 70 pounds after 3 months. But it was taking it’s toll.

I was famished, sleeping about 11 hours a day, and I was light headed.

My current 600 calorie a day diet was not good for me so I decided to eat a healthy 2,500 calorie a day diet, which for a guy like me who likes to workout, and lift weights should be perfect. But the only problem was the 3 months spent starving myself had lowered my metabolism, so when I starting eating a “normal” diet I still ended up gaining weight (about 35 pounds).

That weight loss attempt taught me a valuable lesson. I learned to never jeopardize my health in pursuit of good health. It sounds like common sense, but every day I see people taking drastic, even dangerous measures to achieve good health. Even with the Master Cleanse there are people who stay on this restrictive diet for longer than a month!

Today, I’m proud to say that I have lost weight, and I am healthy. By using the Master Cleanse for what it’s intended for – to purge unhealthy waste from my body, and help break my junk food addiction I was able to get my weight under control and finally feel good about myself.

The Master Cleanse is not easy, and if you want lasting results you’ll need to eat healthy after the cleanse, but the beauty of the Master Cleanse is how much improvement you will see in a short period of time.

If you’re curious about the Master Cleanse take a minute and read some of the comments below which are left by people from all walks of life, and feel free to add your own comments – I would love to hear from you.

ok ok ok this is my 4th day of the master cleanse and i feel amazing! :) I tried to do this about 3 weeks ago over memorial day weekend. EPIC FAIL. So me and a coworker are doing it again and I have to say day 1…2…3 were amazing…and day 4 will be too Ive los 11lbs so far! YES 11!!!! Cant wait o see what this adventure has in store for me. I must say though my tounge is becoming thick white and i feels nasty in my mouth..when will this go away.. also im not using “smooth move” ive been using the infamous “china slim tea” its in the green box. OMG that tea is a KILLER on my tummy…how is the smooth move????

it is inspirering to read all the comments especially from those of you who have already finished the cleanse. I have researched a lot and read everything there is to read about the cleanse on the net. I am a danish girl travelling in southamerica for over a year know. At the moment i am in santiago the chile watching the soccer world cup. I went through every health store here and didnt find the maple syrup anywhere, so i had to order it in from canada. But now i am in possesion of all the ingredients and have eased in for 2 days now eating only soup the first day and today only freshly sqeased orangejuice. Tonight i will drink a laxative tea before going to bed and tomorrow will be my first day on the MC. I have fasted frequently varying from 3 to 5 days for a couple of years know so i like to think i am ready to overcome the hunger. My great challenge will be the presens of my boyfriend and 2 other friends living with me, eating and smothering throughout the whole time. I am very excited about this cure as it sounds a lot more healthy to have an intake that sustains the most vital organ, the brain, while cleansing your body getting rid of years of bad habits. I hope with this cleanse to obtain a healthy relation between craving and real need of food. I am not overweight, my goal is to purify my body and through that my mind and hopefully get a greater understanding of me and my body… I might be chekking in to let you know how i am doing, mostly as i miss a diary on this site… Good luck and vibes from dorthe

After days of research, I finally enbarked yesterday…so this is day 2 for me. I take a regimin of vitamins always, including B-12 and Chromium, high levels of Vitamin A, Zinc, Vitamin D and Calcium. However, in my research, I discoved more information on Vitamin C…higher levels than normal for cell recontruction and weight loss…up to 2000 mgs. per day. I also invested in Wheatgrass, which when mixed with the Lemondae, you hardly taste it and the benefits far outweight the slight powdery substance. I will be using 3 scoops (provided in the container) per day to start. It is awesome for detox and purification, so should be a perfect marriage with this system! So far, I feel great…even have a bit of extra foot bouncing type energy; so it seems as if the 10 day may not be so bad!

I’m on day eight and am surprised that I’ve gotten this far. I lost eight pounds in the first three days. I lost some strenght and my workouts were hard byt last night on day seven I was able to complete my workout and felt fine as a matter of fact great! I actually felt stronger and completed my workout in record time. The disppointing part is I only more pound since day three. I’m detremined to get to day ten though.

kaila June 23, 2010 at 10:42 am

it’s my first day ever on the MC and it’s going really good so far.
i’m hoping to go on it for 10 or maybe 20 days depending on how i feel.
im 16 years old, 5’4, and 125 pounds. i want to lose about 10 or 15 pounds but i know that i will most likely gain all of it back after i start eating normal again. I love fast food and all the unhealthy foods. I’m really trying to nip my bad habits in the butt before it starts getting out of control. I also want to start eating healthy so i can give my mom a little inspiration. all your stories have been so inspiring. thankyou for sharing.(:

Annette July 3, 2010 at 12:51 pm

I am getting geared up and ready to start Monday. I usually finish what I start but being addicted to food is going to be hard. I would like to hear after how long into this do you feel Ok. Two day, three days or is the entire time really hard?

Carrie July 5, 2010 at 9:23 pm

Hello all current and possible future master cleanse participants. My friend has spoken so positively about the master cleanse, and she has almost convinced me to try it. I want to feel the energy, the lightness, and the non-toxic feeling that she speaks of. Although, I am a sceptic as I have tried so many diets. Has anyone reaped the benefits of the master cleanse who was a scepitc at first; and, how do you socialize without eating? I desire to have a clean and healthy body, I just don’t know how to start since I LOVE FOOD!!! Any words of encouragement would be received respectfully and graciously.

Lidia July 6, 2010 at 7:08 pm

Well, I’m at the end of my 8th day of the master cleanse. While I’m not all too worried about the weight loss I haven’t been getting..I’m still curious as to why I’ve only lost 2 pounds in the whole process. Anyone have any ideas?

mae July 7, 2010 at 7:45 am

I am going to start my MC after I finish reading all the info. I just printed. I’ve read all your comments and I must congratulate all of you especially Lacrecia. This amount of weight loss is fantastic. I’d like to also lose weight but my main cause to start is my colon problems. I pray this will finally do the trick for me. MY start date will be Aug 3,2010 because of vacation visits from out of town family members. I will need to travel a bit with them and don’t want anything to interupt my bathroom time. Good luck everybody and I will be checking back in to see your results.

Emilie July 7, 2010 at 12:04 pm

This is my 1st day. The salt water flush didn’t work, but I was only able to stomach about 5 ounces of it. The lemonade is surprisingly tasty, but I put a little too much cayenne in it. The hardest part without a doubt is not drinking coffee. I thought about allowing myself that one cheat, but want to do it right. Also is hard everytime I walk through the kitchen. My mouth wants to chew. I’m going to try the Smooth Move tea tonight. I’m trying for a minimum of 7 days and seeing if I can make it to 10…

amani July 8, 2010 at 9:13 pm

im scared to start this. i really love food and i guess that’s my problem…but i just don’t want to go through all of the seemingly horrible sideffects and practicly starve myself for almost two weeks and in the end not lose atleast 12lb

ashley July 11, 2010 at 8:17 am

Hi. I am 33 yrs old and on my 22nd day of the master cleanse. After major back surgery in jan 09<my neurosurgeon told me that i need to loose 100 lbs. I would appreciate ANY tips or advice anyone could send to my email. Im ecspecially interestedin learning what to eat when I elect to end my fast. MANY THANKS!!!!

Sue July 13, 2010 at 6:14 pm

Hello,

I finished the 10 day version of the MC. I followed all of the instructions and I loved the lemonade and after the first two days it was easier. My only problem is my tongue is still white. I have scraped it and after day three the white is still there.
I’ve looked it up on the internet and it doesn’t sound too healthy. Any suggestions?
Thanks, I feel so much healthier.

Daniel July 14, 2010 at 4:48 pm

I’m on my 10th day finally and really happy and excited about it! The only struggle was definitely the food cravings and how badly I wanted to taste food in my mouth. The hunger went away after drinking the lemonade. After the 3rd day, I was feeling fine and I could go play tennis and go about my business. I don’t recommend working out. I try it one day and I got light headed. So far a great experience. I did it mainly for the detox part it since I want to get into weight lighting and be really healthy :)

zulma July 15, 2010 at 9:42 am

I would like to know what can i eat after the 10 day because i read that I cant jump right in to what ever I was eating before so I would like to known how I start incorporating other foods

Debbie July 18, 2010 at 5:12 am

Starting day 2 of my first experience with the MC.
I found all the ingredients for less than $25 and started not really knowing what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised that the drink is really quite tasty. I LIKE spicy so the cayenne pepper is fine with me. Organic lemons will be my ONLY choice from now on for all uses. Wow, they are so much better! I took the advice of one blog I read and made the popsicles. That helped with the desire to chew! I drank 120 oz yesterday and have lost 3 lbs in the first day. The sea salt “beverage” is not the easiest but followed by one of the yummy popsicles, easy to get over! The encouraging posts helped a couple times yesterday with the urges to eat. My suggestion? Get up and get busy – it will pass! Make it a great day!

Suzanne July 18, 2010 at 4:06 pm

I start the MC tomorrow morning…I have decided to eat what I want today and start fresh tomorrow! I have waited 2 weeks to start this and feel I’m in the right mindset…Has anyone tried the “safe” foods? I haven’t purchased the book so I don’t know what they are…If anyone has any suggestions please let me know! Best of luck and stay positive!!

Richard July 19, 2010 at 5:52 pm

Just completed the MC by far the hardest thing I have ever done!! Lost 21 pounds on a 10 day cleanse. Today isy first day of eating! I am actually afraid to eat now. I don’t want to eat junk but have no idea what I should eat. Any suggestions!??!!

DiDi July 25, 2010 at 7:01 pm

Tried it for 3 days but didn’t feel good at all. Constipated (I never am), headache and actually gained weight. I have done other cleanses and would recommend them before this cleanse.

Samantha July 31, 2010 at 9:39 pm

I just finished my second day of the master cleanse! didn’t see much of a weight loss this morning about a pound :/ but hopefully tomorrow i will have lost many :D . Also does anyone know if working out will help shed the pounds faster?

Chelsea - Memphis, TN August 3, 2010 at 9:08 am

HELLO!! I am on day 1 and am going to TRY to do 10 days but I have a 2.5 yr old and 2 jobs to add to the equation. I am taking a laxative at night instead of the SW flush or the tea…. is that ok??? Also….. I have heard that there are “cheat” foods that wont interupt the process. What are those?? Please Help!! Thanks and good luck to you all!

Christina August 3, 2010 at 10:35 am

Julia August 15, 2010 at 12:22 am

Hello My name is Julia.
I have completed MC for 10 days and now I am returning to the normal life. For me, it is still hard to adjust what not to eat! Sweets look still very good and meets are still beautiful to me T_T
I haven’t measured my weight but I believe I have lost near 10 pounds. My old cloth started to fit^^
I am starting to get some energy from food which means I also need to excercise more! Wish me good luck for not returning my fat life again!
My bottom line is..MC is worth to try it! I found lemonade is much easy to hold your eating habbit than other food. You may have hard time on 3rd and 4th day.
The best thing about this diet was.. you will go to toilet everyday!
You will feel your body is detoxing!

ps. I recommand laxative tea instead of sea salt! too much natrium may not good for body^^;

Good luck for me and all of you!

Dj August 16, 2010 at 6:04 am

Sasha August 19, 2010 at 8:05 pm

well, i just drank the salt water and drank the laxative tea. i feel extremely full. im alittle worried about this whole process. i have tired so much stuff that im so sketchy about everything. i read everything that evryone writes and some make me seem okay about it and some make me wanna quit now before i have even begun! im gonna do it, i wanna go for 10 days and if possible farther, i have read about people losing incredable ammounts of weight, thats great. i just hope that i can lose the 30 pounds that i am wanting and alittle more if possible. i am also dying to kick my sweet tooth to the curb. well good luck to all and i will be posting so support would be wonderful!! :-)

beverly August 19, 2010 at 8:52 pm

I’ve purchase the ingredients for the master cleanse, my only concern is that I am 55 years old and suffer from high blood pressure and I am overweight, I want to know if it will be wise to start the master cleanse. And if so can you go for 5 days instead of 10 this will be my first time. I am hoping someone will respond with an answer please. Thank you

Sasha August 20, 2010 at 9:04 pm

well today i realized i was doing the whole thing worng, actually i was doing it right but the pepper was too strong and i just couldnt hang so my mom went and got some pepper pills that were gonna take instead. the powder form of the pepper is so strong that i was throwing up, wow i feel like a weakling! so terrible! but tomorrow i will rise again!
**i keep trying to read recent blogs and i am only find ones from way back when, are there any recent ones??

Dj August 21, 2010 at 9:21 am

Beverly,
I suggest you ask your doctor first. 5 days really won’t do much of cleansing but you will probably lose some weight, this cleanse is alot more mental then anything else. I love to eat and cook and eat some more, but I realized I needed to make healther choices, so I decided on the master cleanse, this is my second time around and it feels like such an accomplishment when you are done and you feel like a new person with a new healthy begining.
Remeber nothing tastes as good as being healthy feels.
Good luck , keep me posted :)

Czars August 24, 2010 at 3:02 pm

I am going to begin the cleanse for the first time on Saturday. I am very nervous but trying to really pump myself up! It is hard for me to get my hands on these ingredients where I live but I hope to be able to come up with enough lemons to make it the whole 10 days. I am ready to kickstart a weight loss plan to lose at least 20 pounds. I already exercise daily but I have plateued after losing 18 lbs. My friend lost 13 lbs. on the MC so she has inspired me to try this. My concern is how emotional- cranky I may get doing the cleanse. I have two kids and am married and when I miss a meal I can be very cranky. While on the cleanse has anyone been really cranky and short-tempered or does that pass quickly?

rick August 25, 2010 at 12:44 pm

Kuumba Payne August 30, 2010 at 9:01 am

I am on prescription medication and will need to eat with my meds. should I do MC and what should I eat?

anna September 10, 2010 at 12:42 pm

hi!i am going to start on monday!i smoke…do i have to quit or can i smoke during the MC??or is it dangerous??please reply……..thanks!!!!

Expert September 10, 2010 at 4:48 pm

MC is a great thing for sure, but also not for everyone. Those in pretty bad shape, with low blood sugar, low potassium, and so on should not apply. Also, you should actually rest while doing this and not exercise or perform daily duties. And 3 days is usually plenty.

Tammy September 15, 2010 at 2:11 pm

What kind of sea salt is everyone using…..fine, coarse, etc.? If you get the celtic sea salt the MC recommends it is coarse….do you have to grind it down?

Carrie B. September 21, 2010 at 8:30 am

Today Is day 10 for me. I’ve only lost six pounds but I feel amazing and do not have any cravings which is great. The first two or three days were the hardest and I did not actually feel the detox until day 5. My skin looks great also. I thought it would be really hard because I have a household of six active people. My husband and four children who need to eat. Cooking seemed to ease my hunger a lot. Don’t get me wrong I did get irritable a few times throughout on the weekend as I watched my husband munch throughout the day, but I drank a glass of lemonade and I felt better. You can drink as much as you want just don’t take vitamins or eat anything during the ten days. I truly believe this will start my healthier eating habits on the right track. Wish me luck.

megan September 21, 2010 at 8:41 am

2nd day and am feeling great.

Mindy Luong September 22, 2010 at 3:55 pm

Hello! today is my day 8 of MC, I’ve lost 6 lbs. I feel great, and have lots energy. Amazing that I didn’t feel hungry at all during the MC. But I little disapointed, because I expect to loose more weight than that. But anyway, I am so happy that I did the MC, and will do it again soon. I follow exactly the book, didn’t cheat. I didn’t have any problems with salt water in the morning and laxitive tea before bed time. All day today I just drink fresh orange juice, and tomorrow still orange juice with some raw fruits and vegetables soup. Good luck to everyone who do the MC. It worth.

zulma September 25, 2010 at 3:23 pm

i believe after ur 10 days of mc u should drink orange juice and water and on the second day u can drink orange juice water and vegetable soup and rye wafer and on the third day u should add the fruit veggies and salad
and u should wait a couple of weeks to add milk and meat

Robin October 6, 2010 at 8:51 am

Can I use the cayenne pepper capsules ??

mia October 8, 2010 at 10:51 am

I am on day 9 of the MC. I experienced the migraines, sore muscles, and my face broke out. But within two days the migraines were gone, with one flush the muscle soreness was gone, and my face is clearing up. I have a lot more “shine/glow” to my skin now and I’ve lost a good 10 pounds so far. I gained 2 pounds initially but it and then some came right off. The pre-cleanse is vital, in my opinion, to help curve hunger pains and get you body ready for reduced caloric intake and a liquid diet. Good luck to those who are just starting and wish me luck on my post-cleanse diet. My ultimate goal is to loose a total of 70 pounds. I feel I am well on my way to healthy living.
