Introduction

by Raylen on December 5, 2006

My name is Raylen Sterling,

Growing up I was not in the best of health. I was raised by a single mom who did the best she could, but often was so busy that at least one meal a day was take out or fast food. For snacks I would eat chips and soda.

As a result I was overweight as a kid. Actually I was obese. I remember my pediatrician telling my mom that if I kept gaining weight at my current pace I would likely not live to see 35 years old. As a result I was put on a diet, but after a few weeks of trying to keep me on a healthy diet eating in our house went back normal.

I was about 100 pounds overweight by the time I was 19 when I decided to take massive action, and finally lose weight. You might be wondering what was it that would drive a 19 year old to finally go on a diet. Was it good health? No, it was girls. It might not be the most noble reason, but for a teenager it was a powerful motivator.

I did the thing everyone tells you not to do to lose weight. I slashed my food intake to about 600 calories a day, and boy did I lose a lot of weight. 11 pounds in the first week. Close to 70 pounds after 3 months. But it was taking it’s toll.

I was famished, sleeping about 11 hours a day, and I was light headed.

My current 600 calorie a day diet was not good for me so I decided to eat a healthy 2,500 calorie a day diet, which for a guy like me who likes to workout, and lift weights should be perfect. But the only problem was the 3 months spent starving myself had lowered my metabolism, so when I starting eating a “normal” diet I still ended up gaining weight (about 35 pounds).

That weight loss attempt taught me a valuable lesson. I learned to never jeopardize my health in pursuit of good health. It sounds like common sense, but every day I see people taking drastic, even dangerous measures to achieve good health. Even with the Master Cleanse there are people who stay on this restrictive diet for longer than a month!

Today, I’m proud to say that I have lost weight, and I am healthy. By using the Master Cleanse for what it’s intended for – to purge unhealthy waste from my body, and help break my junk food addiction I was able to get my weight under control and finally feel good about myself.

The Master Cleanse is not easy, and if you want lasting results you’ll need to eat healthy after the cleanse, but the beauty of the Master Cleanse is how much improvement you will see in a short period of time.

If you’re curious about the Master Cleanse take a minute and read some of the comments below which are left by people from all walks of life, and feel free to add your own comments – I would love to hear from you.

I read on an MC website that -day and 5-day MC are recommended for those who haven’t done it before. The same website also recommended a 3-day “pre-start” would make a difernce in completing the MC successfully. I am on day 4, of a 5-day MC. I did a 5-day “pre-start” as well. So, when I finish day 5 of the MC, I will have essentially completed a 10-day challenge. The pre-start involved orange juice, vegetable broth, raw veggies and fruit/fruit juices. I have done well. I only had a bit of lightheadeness on day 1 of the MC, and was still able to go on two mile walks in the park with my husband. I have not had any hunger, which surprised me, since I spent the last two days of the pre-start on a film set around food! While I wanted to lose a few pounds, I wanted to detox my body even more so that I can make some healthy lifestyle changes. So far on day 4 of 5, I have lost 8 pounds…an average of 2 pounds a day. I hope by the end of day 5 tomorrow I will be down a solid 10:-) Its funny because I am not ravnous for any particular food when I’m done. The website I mentioned suggested coming off the fast by doing the reverse of the “pre-start” for three days. I think my only craving right now is any kind of soup:-) It is truly mind over body after day 3. When I got done with day 3, I was tempted to stop. But my original goal was 5 days, and I was determined not to disappoint myself and I have continued. Maybe 10 days will be my goal next time. Being diabetic doing this MC, my glucose numbers stayed between 99 and 115, which is great for me! I also opted to do the laxative tea in the morning and evening instead of the saltflush. Took too much time to find the non-iodized sea salt:-) Like I had read, I didn’t start “moving” until day 2 of MC…not a whole lot, but enough to take 1-1/2 inches off my waist! Now on day 4, my poopy is kinda loose, but I am going at least twice a day:-) If I could improve on my MC, I would force myself to drink more water. I was able to get 1/2 my body weight down, but I read one of the experts say that you should try to guzzle our exact body weight in water oz. Naw…maybe next time:-) MC is truly a journey…not for the faint of heart…but doing it with the right intention is so key. My husband was telling me after day 2 that I was looking smaller because I am not burning fat stores. I could se what he meant in the mirror. All I can encourage for success is to follow Raylen’s pre-start and written goals, and know that it does come to an end:-) Any cheat I could have done, even one Brazil nut, would not have been worth it, being this close to achieving my goal of completing 5 days:-) Best wishes to you…it really is not about the destination, but the journey:-)

Hi, I’m 28 years old, 6 feet tall and weigh (as of today) 253 pounds. I’m on my 6th day of the master cleanse and am planning on doing the whole 40 days. I’m doing 10 glasses of lemonade a day which is 1050 calories a day. According to a couple of BMR calculators I’ve found online my calorie intake should be about 2000-2400 calories a day. I also read that its unsafe to have a diet consisting of less then 1200 calories a day and now I’m paranoid that I’m going to harm myself by continuing at only 1050 calories a day.

I got injured at work and haven’t received a paycheck or been able to work for over a year due to my injuries. I started this diet because I haven’t been able to exercise and all the weight I’m putting on is worsening my condition. I already spent my $250.00 dollars in food stamps (YES, Whole Foods takes food stamps) for all the ingredients to do the cleanse and I don’t have the budget to change my 10 glasses a day formula for my remaining 34 days.

I’m scared I’m going to harm myself. I NEED to do this but not if I’m going to harm myself or make myself sick. I’m at a loss and need some honest clarification. Thanks and hope to hear from someone soon.

My name is Anna, I am 54 and thought I was eating healthy and had started to jog. Then I had a fall at my sons HS graduation and the doct said I was borderline with low blood sugar, and all my other level, cholestorol, ldl, hdl etc were not normal. I am on my 6th day of the cleanse. So far I only had a headache the first night and that was it. I think maybe cause I had started taking chlorella and spirulina 3weeks before I started the master cleanse. I stopped taking them but wonder if anyone knows if that would hinder the MC process. So far I have lost 7 pounds on the MC but a total of 22 pounds and still would like to lose 25 more. I started out pre-doctors visit at 169. I am 5’4″.

Amanda September 5, 2011 at 8:43 pm

My name is Amanda, I’m 18 years old. I probably seem too young to be interested in juicing or cleansing, then again I probably seem too young to be a mother as well! I am 5’3. I weighed 123 before i got pregnant, now that my bundle of joy has arrived, I weigh 165. I feel hideous and I am 100% into this for the weight loss. If I do not succeed, I will be highly discouraged. Please tell me if it will not work.

Aloha,I did the master cleanse for 8 days, but had to get myself back on my heart meds.I had an absolutely positive experience and wish some of my family would try it.Side effects did not bother me and my energy level was at top speed, while on the cleanse.I could not stay still for a moment.I had a lot of chores or projects to keep me busy.I actually prepared all my families foods for all the days I was on the MC.I loved the salad and soup required for the easing in days.I did experience a bit of hunger the 3rd day,but after that day my body had adjusted and I did not get hungry.I think eating was just a habit for me,whether I was hungry or not, before embarking on the MC.I am going to go back on it in two months.I recommend this cleanse.Thank you for giving me help in getting back to good health.Aloha

Hi,
I was reading several of the blogs and was wondering where I might find some of the responses to the questions asked as I too had some of the same?

Carla October 30, 2011 at 7:20 pm

This cleanse has really been going well. The first day I had a slight headache(I believe it was caffeine withdrawal). I am on day 5 and I am still excited. I feel energized and my body is changing before my eyes. I feel satisfied as far as feeling full. I will definitely incorporate this cleanse on a monthly basis. Even if it is just for 3 days. I am changing my eating habits due to this cleanse. I will be fifty next year so I am making life changes. This cleanse has been a blessing! Thank you

What I think should happen now before anymore comments are put in, is that someone should be answering some of the genuine questions asked here by individuals, before they feel discouraged.

Gladys January 26, 2012 at 1:05 pm

I started the cleansing on Monday, I have to admit that I, F… up and eat some pop corn chicken Tuesday night but today when I got up no back pain, this is great because I had pains every day and it took pain pills to be able to get to work.
I’m still on it, but with more determination.
do I have to do anything due to my mess up?
Great recipe I love the taste!!!!

I am on day 10 and my stomach has been very grumpy. Should I drink more lemonade then usual. I have been drinking 6 to 8 cups a day.

Gale February 9, 2012 at 12:02 pm

To Peener: I did 2 cups of salt flush in the morning and 2 cups at night. It certainly did the trick!

Gale February 9, 2012 at 12:03 pm

Amanda: If you are breast feeding, I wouldn`t go on the cleanse. Wait till you are finished.

Jess February 15, 2012 at 11:56 am

Its my first day starting teh MC. I’ve never done this before. Hoping I can stay strong and committed!

Angela February 17, 2012 at 1:48 pm

Jess – How are you doing? I am on day 5 and I am feeling pretty good. Stomache started growling late yesterday and hasn’t stop. Other than that I feel strong. I would love to hear how you are doing?

Debb655 March 11, 2012 at 3:05 pm

Tonight at 10:00pm I will have compleated Day 7.
I am doing fine. Sometime I get a little more hungry then other times. I also find myself getting board of the drink the mixture. I am planning to continue for the 10 day period. I lost 9lbs. in 6 days. This is the reason I will stick with it. PS I do chew gum if not I would have quit days ago.

kerry March 29, 2012 at 4:21 am
