Introduction

My name is Raylen Sterling,

Growing up I was not in the best of health. I was raised by a single mom who did the best she could, but often was so busy that at least one meal a day was take out or fast food. For snacks I would eat chips and soda.

As a result I was overweight as a kid. Actually I was obese. I remember my pediatrician telling my mom that if I kept gaining weight at my current pace I would likely not live to see 35 years old. As a result I was put on a diet, but after a few weeks of trying to keep me on a healthy diet eating in our house went back normal.

I was about 100 pounds overweight by the time I was 19 when I decided to take massive action, and finally lose weight. You might be wondering what was it that would drive a 19 year old to finally go on a diet. Was it good health? No, it was girls. It might not be the most noble reason, but for a teenager it was a powerful motivator.

I did the thing everyone tells you not to do to lose weight. I slashed my food intake to about 600 calories a day, and boy did I lose a lot of weight. 11 pounds in the first week. Close to 70 pounds after 3 months. But it was taking it’s toll.

I was famished, sleeping about 11 hours a day, and I was light headed.

My current 600 calorie a day diet was not good for me so I decided to eat a healthy 2,500 calorie a day diet, which for a guy like me who likes to workout, and lift weights should be perfect. But the only problem was the 3 months spent starving myself had lowered my metabolism, so when I starting eating a “normal” diet I still ended up gaining weight (about 35 pounds).

That weight loss attempt taught me a valuable lesson. I learned to never jeopardize my health in pursuit of good health. It sounds like common sense, but every day I see people taking drastic, even dangerous measures to achieve good health. Even with the Master Cleanse there are people who stay on this restrictive diet for longer than a month!

Today, I’m proud to say that I have lost weight, and I am healthy. By using the Master Cleanse for what it’s intended for - to purge unhealthy waste from my body, and help break my junk food addiction I was able to get my weight under control and finally feel good about myself.

The Master Cleanse is not easy, and if you want lasting results you’ll need to eat healthy after the cleanse, but the beauty of the Master Cleanse is how much improvement you will see in a short period of time.

If you’re curious about the Master Cleanse take a minute and read some of the comments below which are left by people from all walks of life, and feel free to add your own comments - I would love to hear from you.

This is the first post on this topic so there are no related posts yet

Hi Raylen, I just want to thank you for sharing this great information about the Master Cleanse. I finished the cleanse a few years back and felt great, but I could never motivate myself to do it again until I read your guide.

So far I’ve lost 19 pounds and it’s shaping up to my best new year in a long time.

I wish you and your family all the best.

    Hi Raylen,
It’s so nice to read about other people’s positive experiences related to the Master Cleanse! The cleanse has changed my life, so I will continue doing it about two - three times a year for the rest of my life.
Reading your blog keeps me encouraged and reinforces the knowledge that this is a good thing. I hope that, through your efforts more people are able to experience what we’ve experienced!
    Best wishes,

    Hi Raylen

I too did the master cleanse and it is a great way to clean yourself out and lose some of the weight I needed to lose. I still drink the lemonade drink. I plan on doing the cleanse again after the holidays. It is remarkable how great I felt after the cleanse. I wish we could set up sites all over the US so people could come for a week to ten days and do this before they went to a doctor for healing. Thanks for sharing this information and for your great website. Linda Glaske

Raylen - I did my first Master Cleanse a month ago and although I was committed to the process, your emails and website truly made my process one of little or no anxiety…truly a blessing!

I look forward to hearing more from you and others about this amazing lifestyle - Jane Minard - Salem, Oregon

    Raylen,

Thanks for your dedication to spreading the word about the cleanse.
I just finished my first lemonade cleanse about a month ago. It really wasn’t as hard as I expected it to be. After going ten days without anything in my system,(besides the lemonade recipe and filtered water), I felt better than I had in years. I could have continued on with it for another ten or more days but, I didn’t want to overdue it my first time.
I’m looking forward to doing it again after the first of next year.
    Thanks again, Joe

    Hi Raylen,
I’ve just finished the Master Cleanse, going 16 days. This was my first attempt. I lost 15 pounds and am feeling great. Along with the lemon, cayenne pepper and maple syrup mixture I drank an herbal liquid health product separately to allow my body to get even healthier. This product is the only product available on the market for the whole body. Not very many people know about it. If you are interested just visit the website www.herbaltonic.jurak.com
Thank you for getting together this Blog for people to encourage one another and share ideas.
It’s almost a new year, may people take charge of their own health.
    Merry Christmas and Best Wishes,
    Nancy Wheeler - WI

I really have enjoyed reading all of the supportive, encouraging, and instructive emails. There are so many people that have done this cleanse with positive feedback, but I really don’t like lemon, or maple flavor and am a whimp when it comes to pepper heat… so I’m currently doing a Green Drink Cleanse. And through it I continue to use your helpful hints and insights to get me through what is proving to not be as challenging as I thought. And thus I actually think I might be able to do the ultimate cleanse… the Master Cleanse. In three more months after my body has regulated itself again I’m gonna do the Master!

I started the Master CLeanse in a hope of helping a problem I have with DVT I developed last year. This is the first serious medical problem I have had. I am in good shape and exercise regularly.
I completed 10 days on the first master cleanse and lost a few pounds but not what I would expect. I am more interested in the cleansing aspect.
I have not been able to get rid of the edema and hoped the cleanse would help. It appeared to at first, but now the swelling has returned. Has anyone had success with this problem?

Raylen, I learned of your newsletter while doing “detox research”, and over about a month, I went through LOTS of websites and several books. It was your newsletter that convinced me that the Master Cleanse was the one I’d do. In October, I completed the 10-day fast (along with a friend I “recruited” to join me - just by sharing your report). I felt great after the second day and made it through all 10, losing 14 lbs. I have shared your report (and website with several friends and co-workers. Since my completion of the fast, 2 co-workers have done the full 10 days, and almost every day someone is asking “what’s that thing you all are doing?” I will continue reading your blog and newsletter for motivation, as I continue periodic detox “zones” in my life.
    Best,
    Sheila

    Hey there everyone,

did the cleanse for a day, i know, i know, should be for at least 3 days. But the taste of the lemon drink as a tea is wonderful. I like spices and wow, did i ever put a dolop of cayenne in it. Broke a good sweat.

I am currently training to bring my weight down so i can run at least for a bit in a coaches soccer xmas soccer game. So i am doing the tea and eating 1 good meal a day. Will update in a few days.

I must say that the daily readings keep you motivated. I did the clense a few months back. Even though I didn’t make it to ten days, I did make it to six and the difference in how I felt was amazing. I’m going to do the clense again in the new year and strive for 8 days this time and then afew months later go for 10 days.

  15. on 07 Dec 2006 at 7:18 amShalonda

Good Morning, I love the newsletters and words of encouragement. I can’t wait to start this cleanse. I’m not even going to do it for the weight, as I am more interested in detoxifying.(hope i spelled that right)

I recently had my daughter and while I continue to breastfeed, it is my understanding that I should not do this cleanse.

Please keep up your words of encouragement, and I love everyone’s positive comments. Thanks again.

    Hi Raylen,
I will start the cleanse in 2 days. I am really looking forward to cleaning my system. I will let you know what happens.

    Hello Mr. Sterling,
I am proud to say that I just finished my first cleanse yesterday. I feel amazing. I am 27 pounds lighter and lighter on my feet. Thank you so much. I read every article and followed the cleanse. I have recommended it to all my family and friends. This is the beginning of a healthier life for me.

  18. on 07 Dec 2006 at 11:06 amRosemarie

First, I’d like to thank Raylen for putting this site together and sharing the Master Cleanse Secrets. Thanks also to everyone who has shared their comments and experiences. I started the Master Cleanse yesterday. I tried the salt water drink first thing in the morning, but couldn’t finish it. Then I made a day’s worth of the lemonade drink but was only able to get through about half of it. I don’t really like the cayenne pepper taste and would be interested in learning of alternatives. I did have some herbal tea using the maple syrup as a sweetener and I wasn’t really hungry all day. I was tempted to eat, but it was more from boredom, not hunger. Today is day 2 and I started with a cup of laxative tea, then switched to drinking the lemonade. I’m not sure how much of it I’ll be able to drink or how long I’ll be able to stay on the cleanse, but the positive comments seem to help.
    Thank you all.

Hello all! I’ve done the Master cleanse twice so far. My first was 1 Oct 06 - 11 Oct 06 and the second began the end of Nov. I’ve never had a weight problem but I still lost about 12 lbs. My purpose for doing it was for a complete cleanse “detox”. There are plenty of products on the market that tell you you can eat and detox that’s a lie. We need to give our bodies a break from food every now and then. Was it easy no not at all but it was so worth it. Your not physically hungary during the entire now mentally you are starving because we are creatures of habit. If you are thinking about doing it please do. If you already have keep juicing lemonhead.

I have yet to try master cleanse, I have tried almost everything there is on and off the web. I am running out of solution.I am not use to the weight that I have been carrying for the last 4 yrs I would always lose and gain 10 pounds here and there but would love to keep it off and be healthy about it. I carry my weight on the top half of my body. it’s not out of hand yet but before it does I want to do something about it.

PLEASE everybody with questions about substituting etc, you MUST read Stanley Burroughs book, he is the originator of the Master Cleanse and his book is extremely helpful. There are other websites and support groups available online with people moderating who are more than 20 years old and have been doing this cleanse off and on for years. It is helpful to see other peoples experiences, but you should find support from people who have done this more than once and they will help you to understand why you CANNOT just leave out the maple syrup and laxative tea and saline flushes and cayenne pepper and either lemon or lime juice, fresh squeezed, not bottled!!!

HI THIS IS JOANNE AGAIN, I ALSO WANTED TO MENTION THAT I LOST (14) POUNDS IN THE (6) DAYS THAT I WAS ON THE CLEASNSE, THE FIRST (3) DAYS WERE THE HARDEST. I HAVE NEVER BEEN VERY OVER MUCH WEIGHT MAYBE TEN TO TWENTY POUNDS AND I LOVE JUNK FOOD SO I SAW THE NEED FOR A CLEANSE. I KNOW THE FIRST (3) DAYS WERE DIFFICULT BECAUSE OF ALL THE JUNK I EAT AND ALL OF THE COFFEE THAT I DRINK!!! BUT DISPITE THE FAINTING SPELL AND THE DETOX PERIODE ALL AND ALL I MUSR SAY WITH THE INCRESED ENGERGY AND MENTAL CLEARITY IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE.

I really appreciate your willingness to share this information with people. I have known about the cleanse for about 4 or 5 years and never had the courage to commit to it. Your website and newsletters have given me a lot of very helpfull information. My cleanse will begin after the new year, cross your fingers!! The only thing I am still a little unsure of is what to eat before and after to prepare.

    Hey everyone,

I am on my second round of the cleanse. The first time I lost 11 pounds in 7 days. I felt better and had an abundance of energy. I am on day 2 and still going strong. I added a workout routine to my daily activities. My goal is to lose at least 55-60 more pounds by February. Good luck to everyone!!

  25. on 07 Dec 2006 at 2:12 pmShaakira

Hi, thanks for sharing and creating this avenue of expressions. I too did the master cleanse for 5 days. I lost 12 lbs. When I went to my medical dr for an annual check up they told me there was no way I could have lost that weight on a fast…well they stressed me out by ordering ekg’s, xrays, blood work, etc because they wanted to rule out — cancer…can u believe that! I plan to do the cleanse before the end of the year. I think it’s great! I always remind myself that doctors don’t get paid without sick people, so they just try to fix sympthoms not clean and balance our body’s so it can heal itself.

    Leeta,
The Master Cleanse does what it is suppose to do and I’m healthier after going through it just recently. To help you on a daily basis I found an 18 herbal liquid health product about 14 months ago that is like having a mechanic on duty 24 hours/day keeping your car working top notch.
You have to remember that your life is in your blood and what this product does is cleanse your blood so that your organs and glands work like they are intended to. If this sounds like something you might want to know more about just go to www.herbaltonic.jurak.com for more info.
    Hope this helps,
    Nancy

    Hi Raylen,

Thanks for creating this and for all the info.I completed my first master cleanse about a month ago and was able to do it even though I’m a personal chef and for 7 of those days I was cooking!I maintained my exercise program as well as the requisite one hour dog walk every day and felt great doing it. I lost about a size and a half as well as my sugar/carb craving, my joints are less stiff, my complexion is better and on the whole I feel clearer and more in balance. My plan is to do it every spring and fall. Fabulous!

I tried the cleanse, but I take pressure meds. I need to eat before I take the meds. or I get sick.
    Any sugestions?

I decide to go on this master cleanse after reading your newsletters. I have not been able to sleep for years and was on meds for depression, nerve problems and sleep. I went on the cleanse for a month and prayed each day. I was shocked to discover that I began sleeping through the night and feeling better and lost lots of inches on my waist and hips.I am off all my meds because I feel healthier and I’m sleeping every night. I am going back on it for January as a way to discipline myself and focus on me.
Best of Luck and God’s protection for the New Year everyone!

I love the master cleanse and lost 15 pounds the first time I did it. However, I noticed that while on the lemon drink, I do not have a bowel movement. I drank herbal teas and tried powder vit C, to no avail. I am concerned that is not healthy. Any suggestions?

    PLEASE READ:
Although this site is really good and informative, be sure to actually read the book, The Master Cleanser.
    Please also see http://curezone.com

It is so important that each of you who are posting questions get answers to them. At curezone, you will get all of the answers that you seek - without having anyone try to sell you anything. I have found that curezone is the most informative site on the internet regarding the Master Cleanse. There is a forum devoted specifically to the Master Cleanse. There are also many other useful forums and topics. At curezone it says: Education instead of Medication. It’s a great source.

I went on the lemon cleansing about two weeks ago. On the 5th day, I walked 30 minutes on the treadmill and did some sit-ups. Afterwards, I was light-headed and had to rest the rest of the day. I had to eat something to get myself going again. I was afraid to try the cleansing again but I sure want to. Some family members of mine have lost tons of weight. I had my thyroid removed about five years ago because of thyroid cancer. Do you think that may have had something to do with my reaction?

Thank you for the nice newsletters. After failing two other times, I just finished an 11 day cleanse yesterday. Although I didn’t do the cleanse for the weight loss (I was close to ideal), I did lose some weight: my clothes are looser on me. Now, though, I am afraid that I’ll trigger weight gain, because our metabolism goes down during the cleanse, and I’m not going back to raw foods–I have three children and an underweight husband who can’t fathom the idea.

Anyway, does anybody have any advice or experience with this? Does a 10 day fast ruin our metabolism?

I know I stopped cleansing too early because I was still having detox symptoms and my toungue was not all the way pink yet, but I really wanted to eat. When I broke my fast, I ate solid foods too quickly. I didn’t feel upset to my stomach; in fact, I felt more energy (I was weak during most of the cleanse), but today I feel achy and puffy and bloated.

What should I do? Anybody have some advice?

  37. on 19 Dec 2006 at 9:36 amBetty

    Raylen,
I’ve done the Master Cleanse twice. It is truly great. The first time I did it for the seven days and the second time a total of 18 days. I have a question why is it people are only addressing their weight loss? What about the diseases that it can cure? I own the Stanley Burroughs book and I’ve read and read it. I can’t find the recipe with the molasses for people who have diabetes. Would you please email me that . My son-in-law has diabetes and I’ve told him about the Master Cleanse. Thank you Raylen

Thank you sooo much for giving all of the information regarding this MASTER CLEANSE. I am starting on Jan 1. I have been preparing my body by getting off of coffee and drinking alot of juice.
I plan on trying to drink only juice one week prior to this fast. I cannot afford a water purifyer so I will use distilled (hope thats ok)
Thanks again for all of the resources to help us do our best. I am impressed by all of the positive comments here.

    Hey there,
Thanks, of course, for the useful information. I have a question for anyone out there whose done this before. I’m on my 3rd day and still have not experienced a great deal of elimination. I’ve dont the morning salt water flushes, but still no significant bowel activity. Is the cleanse working? Or are the toxins getting broken up and just floating around in my body? Any ideas?

I had a question about the master cleanse diet and medication… What should you do if you are taking medication that requires you to take with food or can upset your stomach if you don’t take with food or dairy? Can I still do the master cleanse? Will it irritate my stomache because of the Lemon? Can I still take my medication if I do it and don’t eat? Thanks. Sincerely, Buqe Osmani

    Hello all,

I just finished a 10 day cleanse and am glad to report feeling pretty good. I was committed to it and followed Burroughs instructions closely, which I think is key to success. I lost about 10 lbs, which is great, but more important, I feel lighter, more energetic. I’m doing the orange juice today and am looking forward to returning to real food. Does anyone have anything to say about priotics, which have been recommended by some, after resuming consumption of real food?

Thanks and good cleansing to all.

  45. on 08 Jan 2007 at 10:28 amRobert Fresco

    Hello
Thank you for your valuable information. I have been doing the Master Cleanser diet every second or third year for the past fifteen years.
For me, the preparation beforehand is the most important part, I gradually adjust my diet for the preceeding week to exclude all meat and dairy, and especially tea or coffe. If I don’t do this, the headache that I experience the second day into the fasting process is a nightmare (approximately equivalent to a migraine). As far as taking the actual formula, I use 100% organic maple syrup (relatively easy to get in Canada) and Santa Cruz 100% organic lemon juice that comes in bottles (easier to use than squeezing). I live in a small mountain town that has the best natural water sources in perhaps all of North America. There are three water companies that operate here. Where elese in North America can you safely drink the water right out of the tap.
I am now four days into the fast and feeling great. My energy level is almost double what it was last week. Personally hunger doesn’t happen to me, I just have a mindset that accepts the fast and even preparing three meals a day for my son isn’t a problem. I actually like the bite of the cayenne (except when a grain gets stuck in my throat).
It interesting to me that almost all of your emails are from women. Are there any other men out there doing this fast.

  46. on 08 Jan 2007 at 1:53 pmKimberley

I’ve just started my first cleasne about 7 days ago. I must say its hard but I’m keeping it up. I was light headed for the first couple of days but so far so good. I do have a question though I have being using organic lemon juice. Is that ok or should I buy actual lemon’s. Well heres to another 14 more days!

I really tried to do it but it made me sick and gave me the worst headaches. The salt water was the worst. It did clean me out the first couple of days but after that there was not much left. I can deal with not eating and doing fluids but do you have to do the salt water?

Hi Raylen and everyone else. I just heard about the Master cleanse lately and thought that I would give it a try. I have went on water fasts before for 2 weeks and did great. It was amazing how much better I felt after the first couple of days. The main thing that I remember is how focused I felt. Everything was very clear. A lot of time I feel like I am in a fog but while I was fasting I thought better and was in a better frame of mind. I am going to start the Master Cleanse in the morning (Jan. 15) I am very excited. I have all of the ingredients to start. However, I was at a Wild Oats store this weekend and bought the organic 100% lemon juice I did not know that I needed fresh lemons. So, I went to Wal-Mart tonight and bought fresh lemons since I don’t live anywhere close to a organic store. Which would be best for me to use the organic lemon juice or the fresh regular lemons? Thank you so much for your newsletter.

I started the fast and lasted 54 hours but blew it by being near the refrigerator full of food. I will try it again tomorrow. I am 57 years old and I run a few times a week, does anyone know if this could be dangerous to over exercise while on the cleansing fast?
    Thanks, Mike

    Hello all,
I am 51 years old and am on day 4 of the cleanse. Nothing outstanding to report, system is pretty empty now. I have been following everything precisely and am actually not having much problem at all. I was about 70 pounds overweight and have alrady dropped ten pounds. I am basically a vegetarian but consumed fish once or twice a week. After the cleanse I will no longer have the fish, do not want to add that stuff back into my system.

Will update later towards the end.

I finished my detox on yesterday! I have never had weight problems but I knew I could use a good cleanse because I love junk foods. I was most blessed not only did it detox my body but my mind and my soul as well. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to do a all over process. I would have to say it requires structure and major committment.. I lost 10 lbs in the process.

What is the company that makes the liquid Ceyenne and how much of it do you use?
Today was day 1 - doing great so far!

Hi! I love the info. and tips that I get from here, without this I would never think about attempting the cleanse. I want to so badly and bought the supplies for the drink. However, I’m in nursing school and have so much stuff going on right now, I’m so stressed. I’m trying to find a time to start that won’t be right in the middle of an exam or so on and will be easier for me to start. I am really excited and everything I eat now, I think of all the nasty, unnecessary garbage it’s loaded with. I look to you all for inspiration and motivation. Congrats to any and all who’ve done it!!

I did complete 10 days with the lemonade cleanse. I feel so good but duing the cleanse I was feeling great. I was feeling so energetic that I never have been felt in my whole life, but day 1 and 8 was hard. Now my eating habbits are improved and I have lost 6 lbs as well.
    Thanks a lot

My name is Tharhirah and I am a little over weight, a friend told me about the Master Cleanse and I went on line to get some information about it. I bought all the ingredients but I didn’t start it yet. I’m going to start on Sunday, because a friend of mine is husband is giving her a surprise dinner party and It would be very tempting for me if I was doing the Master Cleanse. I also wanted to know if you can use boiled tap water not filtered, because I don’t have a water filter, but plan to buy one.

    Goodmorning Raylean,
I am a Registered Nurse, and a mother of 6 wonderful children. I am 66yrs. old,but looks like 45ys. old,(thats what my friends tells me). However,I also came from a single family backgrownd, but we ate well;greens and cornbread, beef roast, chicken, hot dogs on friday, because mom would not let us eat fish, due to the fish bones.Consequently, she gave us cod liver oil ever morning….ugh,to ward off colds, and keep our joints functioning(her mottos). I have tried the master cleanse before, for 40 days with good results. However,I do it twice a year now. Four years ago,I was diagnosed with a brain anurysm, and decided to change some things in my life….and I did. I ran a 5 K marathon in 2005,came in 2nd place for my age group. In 2006,ran again and came in 1st.place also,I decided to be a vegetarian and now I feel better than I have for years.I write this because,GOD HAS truly blessed me to be around to tell my testimoney. We can do all things thru CHRIST who gives us strength(Phil.4:13).This is my 4th day on the master cleanse and I feel great.I will be doing it for 10 days only.I could go on and on telling you about myself, but that would be selfish of me,because I love people and life so-o-o-o much.Just to wake up and know you’re alive is a blessing.
Thank-you for allowing me to share some things about myself.
    Respectfully in Christ Jesus,
    Sally

I am going to do the masyer cleanse diet soon, is there anything I should do to accomplish this goal? I have read all of the blogs and purchased the book.I am a junk food eating fool, what can I do to stay on this diet? I took the probiotics and that did not seem to do anything? Should I do those after I get off the diet?

    Hello,

This is the first time that I am trying the Master Cleanse fast. I live in New York and went shopping for all that was needed to get started. When I went to my health food store they said that you can not buy grade B in New York. So I bought grade A, will this be ok. Please get back to me. I am on the cleanse for 3 days and I am feeling fine. Best regards, Susan

  73. on 22 Jan 2007 at 10:56 amOdessa

Sally, I hope you’re back to read this. I thank God for knowing that another person is doing the fast in the name of the Lord. (Not that there is anything wrong about detoxing for one’s health) I am fasting for non-physical reasons, and I did the master cleanse a few times years ago, and decided to use this way. Thanks for the website and the info that I can use. My body is very much benefitting from what I am doing, and I thank God that He showed me away to address my health problems as well. I have a family history of acne, and my own eczema to boot, now I believe that it’s coming out of me because I never had severe breakouts until the past couple of days. But they go away rather quickly as well. My weight is a problem, especially sagging belly fat so that would be interesting. Most of all, my cravings for comfort food when distressed or lonely I have been delivered from. God’s been so good to me. I was wary about taking this task on, but I thank God because my obedience is showing me who Christ really is as I spend my day with him instead of rice and potatoes. God bless everyone here, and I wish you all the best health.

    Hello Ray,

While on the Master Cleanse, please let me know is it ok not to take the salt water and just take smooth move in it place. I can not take the taste of that salt.

Well, I just started today, and I have to say it is HARD….I have been jumpy, irritable and HUNGRY…I drank some “green Juice” tonight for dinner along with the lemonade…(fresh juice I make from Kale, celery and carrots). I really want to continue and I can hardly believe that people can actually do this for 10 days or more. I am going to try to keep it up, I hate to be a “quitter”- I know that nothing worthwhile is easy to accomplish, but any words of encouragementor help would be appreciated.
    thanks!

    Hi,
Thank you for this very useful information. I am preparing to begin the cleanse in a few days. I had a question about the Herbal Laxitive Tea vs the Sea Salt Flush. In the video you begin to tell why you don’t reccommend the HLT but it stops abrubtly. What is your reccommendation? Thanks again for your site…great info.

    Greetings Raylen.
I have been on the Master Cleanse for 9 days now. I did not mentaly prepare but I have done much shorter fasts many years ago. when I had to prepare breakfast lunches and dinner for the family. At that point in time I challenged my self. Doing this cleanse now I only cook for my husband but the smartest training I had given myself years ago was “make up your mind.” It is interesting to see who is in charge, the additions, or habits. My first few days were rough because I was not planning to do this. I was saddened that food ments so much. I had to make my mind up. I believe we have to get real clear who is boss. The mind is so so strong, this cleanse is good disipline for it too. Jaclyn

    Hi Raylen,

I made my first attempt of doing the Master Cleanse but had a rough time getting over the taste. The lemon and maple syrup is fine but the cayenne pepper is overwhelming. Is there anything I can use instead of the cayenne pepper?

I am planning on trying the lemonade diet again for maybe three days instead of ten. And will work my way up to ten days in another month or so.

I am using the “Lemonade Diet” for the first time. A couple of people I work with have used it and have raved about it. I can’t tell you how excited I am. I plan to stay on the cleanse a little longer if I can because I am using the cleanse as a catalyst for the beginning of a whole new regiment of healthy living. I also strongly believe in the 21 days to develop a habit. Therefore I am going to try to stay on the cleanse for 19 days so that by the time I get back to regular healthy eating it will have been 21 days.

I used to drink between 1-2 two-liter bottles of Mountain Dew a day. THAT just CAN’T be healthy. I cut down to a 20 oz. bottle a day for a week before starting the diet. That is one of many bad habits I will be breaking by going on the cleanse.

I am also looking forward to the increased energy I will have during the cleanse. My co-workers both described feeling better than they ever had. Lately I have been feeling tired frequently toward the end of the day and have been putting on a few pounds and inches on the waist. I welcome the change! I will be sure to let you know how it goes.

    Hello Raylen,
I appreciate your email on the Cleansing system. I am very excited to try it - weight is not an issue with me, however “cleansing” is.

Could you direct me to where I can find the proper recipe - the intake instructions - the do’s and don’ts? I’m afraid the only info I have is word of mouth and I do want to ensure I handle everything properly.

    Thanks,
    Pat

    Hey there Raylen!
Thank you so much for your helpful, awesome newsletters. They help to keep me focused. I also like your secrets on the website. I wished I read it prior to doing the cleanse. Also, I wrote to you and asked you a question of taking vitamins while on the cleanse, and to my surprise you responded quite fast. I know you’re very busy with everyone’s email, but I really appreciate the quick response. I did the cleanse only 3 1/2 days but plan to do a full one for 10 days soon.
Take care and best to you and your family!

This is the second day on the Master Cleanse. I am feeling okay. However, my blood pressure is elevated. I believe it is from the cayenne pepper. So I cut the amount in half for todays lemonade. I am sleeping a lot. I am calm and stress free today. I return to work tomorrow and the normalcy will return. So far so good.

I just finished the MAster cleanse about 2 weeks ago. I was successful and was able to complete 13 days. It was a good experience and I will do it again. Now my question, I have a very slow system, which was part of my reason for doing this cleanse. After the cleanse I have been taking the Probiotics. For some reason I am having great difficulty with my regularity. I have not gone back to junk food and have upped my fiber and water intake. I have had to go back to the Smooth move tea 2 or 3 nights a week. Have you heard of anyone having this issue?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I am on day three of the cleanse and the first two days I was hungry which I expected. The thing I thought was strange is I haven’t eliminated as much as I thought I would. I have really struggled with the salt water and have been reduced to the herbal laxative tea. I was wondering if this was normal considering my modified take on the cleanse? Another thing I have experienced was sharp pains in my chest and stomach. I am pretty sure it is not hunger pains, but I thought it might be normal for people on the cleanse to get slight aches. Please let me know. Thank you.

Hi my name is Bryn. A decission was made to finally quit smoking after almost 14 years. By accident really, I got a bad case of bronchidous (sp?) and really couldn’t smoke. After 3 days of hell, I thought why even start back up again. To make a long story short I decided it was time to get rid of any un-healthy habits I had in my life. I’d heard of the Master Cleanser and thought this is perfect for what I’m trying to achive. It’s very motivating hearing all of the success stories. Thanks for the inspiration!

Why do the critics say you gain all the weight back once you’re not taking the lemonade drink.

Today I started the MASTER CLEANSE. I’m excited that I have mentally prepared myself to achieve this challenge. I told my family last night that I will need their support while doing this challenge. I going to take one day a time until i complete the 10 days recommended time for detox. Also, I have joined a new work out facility which is awesome. Thanks to all for your encoraging words and support.

This is great. I have suffered fromchronic constipation ALL my life. My tummy is always bloated and regardless how “healthy” I eat I still have to rely heavily on fiber supplements and aloe vera caps… And drown myself in fluids if I don’t… Days will go by without a visit to the bathroom…
I am getting rady to do the program but how will I know I am purchasing the correct sea salt. I am already using sea salt at home for cooing and seasoning but I am unsure….
My goal is to be on the program from 3-5 days. I have to b realistic….but I am aming for the whole 10 days…

  92. on 08 Feb 2007 at 6:57 pmLola

I completed 6 days of the cleanse about three weeks ago. I felt great….no more migraines or feeling, fatigue. Also I lost 14 pounds, and went down another dress size, which is great ( and I haven’t gained any of it back)!!!!

When coming off the cleanse is it okay to drink some of the “lemonaide” in addition to the orange juice and water?

  94. on 12 Feb 2007 at 1:25 amAngela

Let me just say the Master Cleanser is just a big fad. I did everything the book said till the very end. I was dizzy,my stomach was upset, my eye sight was blurry,I was shaky, and had headaches. They said the third day gets better that is such a lie. The fifth day I wasn’t hungry but the stuff still made me Nauseous. Yeah okay I lost 10 lbs and my face did look clearer and healthier. But I still had the same symptoms as I did when I was doing it. You are pretty much starving yourself and there are no nutrients in the drink. This is not good for you and your body. Do not do this until you talk to your doctor. No good physician will let you do this diet.

    Hello Raylen,
I am sure you heard this story before but although the stories may seem the same, I feel that we all have our own berdens to bare. I had breast cancer at the end of 2004 which threw me into menapause. I also had extensive surgery on my foot for the sixth time. It took me awhile to bounce back but in my heart I really want to feel better. I have chanced my eating habits for over a month now. I am a emotional eater because of my back ground and up bringing but I am honest with myself which has always helped me.My husband likes to sabatoush me alot but this time I am trying not to let him do that. I want to do the cleanse and I am hoping to cleanse for three days. Longer if I can. I am just waiting for the products to come in the mail. I will be reading your emails. Thank you for the support.

    Hi Raylen,
I started the master cleanse on Jan 29th and finished on the 8th of February. I must say thet the juice started to taste a little rancid after 10 days of drinking but I got through it and in the end I lost 17 pounds. I couldn’t be more pleased. Now I am watching what and the amounts that I eat. Thanks for all the support that you gave.

    Dear Raylin,
I was always thin until I went through a divorce 6 years ago. After my divorce I would pick up fast food in lieu of cooking. The weight went on slow, but now after 6 years I have found myself 40 Ibs. over weight. I can’t wear my suits and in my business I need to look my best. Which I don’t.
I just bought the Master Cleanse book with all the stuff to get started.
    I plan on starting asap.
How much weight did you lose and how long did it take you to lose it?
Plus, the 1/10 teaspoon of cayenne pepper seems like a lot. I was told by the health food store to use only that amount when making a gallon. In the book it says to use that amount in 10 oz of water.
I would like to hear from you before I start. I can’t talk to family or friends about this because they will try and talk me out of it.
    Thank you very much.
    Carol

I am having the hardest time commiting. I know it’s all in my mind. I truly think I need to get rid of all the food in my home. I keep telling myself I can do it, but I laways end up putting food in my mouth. I’m even using Hoodia and nothing is working. I am going to try again. I’m going to KEEP trying until I get it.

Hello, I am starting the cleanse today. I was wondering if anyone has tried the capsules of cayenne instead of the putting the powder in the drink? Is that ok to do? My throat burns everytime I take a sip! I just don’t think I can handle it much longer! I take a sip of the drink and 10 sips of water to clear out the burn and it still burns. I would love to continue but am wondering if I can take cayenne capsules and the drink. Thank you. Also how do I read the feedback on these questions? I would love to read the feedback but can’t seem to locate where they are. Great questions on here.
    Thank you so much, Missy

I am just starting the Master Cleanse today. I am a little scared about after the cleanse, because I have done juice fasting in the past for weeks at a time, lost alot of weight and then starting eating (overeating) like how I got here in the first place and gained it all back and more. It is hard for me to know how much to eat and for how long. I noticed there is a book to order burn the fat on Raylen’s website. Has anyone had any experience with it?

  102. on 19 Feb 2007 at 12:42 pmSandra

I completed the 10 days master cleanse and feel great!! It was one the most challenging moments in my life. I lost a total of 11 pounds. Boy did I loose a wopping one inch on my waist line. During the MC I was able to do light exercises too. Walking on the treadmill 40 minutes for six of days. My husband noticed the decrease in my weight and thinking about taken on the challenge himself. It took a lot of discipline and positive drive. My advise to any one who is considering the master cleanse, don’t tell people that you are planning or in the process of the master cleanse. Only your live in family. Don’t quit! Stay focus! Just do it! Then tell somebody because you did it. Just like I did

So, I’ve been on this for 4 days now, and so far I’ve really been enjoying it. I did suffer terrible headaches the 2nd day, but I had some YOGI TEA Fasting Tea, and it helped immensely (it’s got red clover in it). I see no problem taking it to the end at 10 days, if I’m still feeling results, I may do 15, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there! Thanks for your info…it really answered a lot of questions!

I have to hold my nose while I drink it, and quickly put a piece of gum in my mouth righ after:) I tried to put some more maple syrup in my mixture this morning but its still horrible to me, any suggestions? i really want to continue this, but I think I am not far from throwing it up!

Everytime i try to start the master cleanse diet,i can only go 2 days. I get so hungry and i wanted to know will be alright if i ate soup when i get hungry? I’m also concerned because im 75pds overweight,if i dont eat in 10 days my body will react in a way that it might shut down or cause some very serious health problems.

Hi everyone.Raylen, thank you for all the information on the master cleanse. Because of it,I am half way through my 10th day, have lost 15lbs., and feel great!By day 6, I had more energy, and slept better than I have in 6 yrs. I have always had problems with food-I ate way too much, and to top it off developed food allergies which caused me to swell and break out in hives.I’ve also landed in the e.r. twice for eating the wrong thing.
During this time I have truly learned that food is for nurishment, not comfort or to cure boredom.I dealt with those issues of why I eat so much before I did the cleanse, but with grace and prayer.after I got that behind me I found your site and gathered all essential info. To no suprise, it was a sucsess and a victory!!! I almost had decided to stay on a little longer, but recieved your newsletter the same day about the dangers of continuing more than 10 days, so tomorrow I begin breaking it with oj. I’m definately doing it again in 45 days. I will keep you informed.

I have just completed a ten day cleanse and I must say I feel terrific. The first few daysI was hungry, and felt I wouldn’t make it. I run the grocery department in a large supermarket and temptation was everywhere. I am happy to report that I perservered and was able to finish the whole ten days. Along about day six my hunger abated, my energy levels elevated, and upon completion, I can truly say I feel better than I have felt in years.

I am currently on day 8 (Monday 3/5) of my cleanse and really feeling wonderful. I intend to go 10 days and break my fast on Thursday. I am very nervous to stop because I am not sure what to expect once I start eating again, I just feel so good now. I am prepared to drink OJ and stick to veggies for a while but I have a dilemma; my first day off the cleanse I leave on an overnight business trip. Any good tips about what to eat on the road? I know we will be going to a big dinner on Thursday and want to be careful not to hurt myself.

I am on day 3. Getting ready to go to sleep and hoping tomorrow will be better than today. Very rough. Severe headaches and lack of focus throughout the day.

I am doing the MC as outlined. Not deviating from it at all.

The main reason I started the cleanse was to get my energy level up. I have steadily been losing my zest for life; nothing major, but evident to me.

I plan to do the full ten days. My aunt has been doing MC on and off for 20 years. She just completed another 10 day MC. She is in her late 70’s and swears by it. So she is a “coach” to me in this.

I like what I am reading on this blog. Reading about the experiences of others is refreshing. I especially like reading about how people are regaining their energy and feelings of well being. Gives me hope that day 3 will soon be a memory.

    Hi,

The Master Cleanse has become a lot more popular than when I first tried it many years ago. I was doing it to increase health and it worked plus I started learning how the body is always trying to cleanse and heal itself. Then I also learned about juice fasting and water fasting. I am trying to make fasting as popular as it was in biblical times. The bible has 74 references to fasting. My site on the lemonade diet and fasting has quotes from 17 MDs.

I just wanted to let you know that I followed your cleanse to a tee for 7 days and I hardly ever went to the bathroom, and as still on the 3rd day after I still have not.I even went up to taking 5 ex-lax a day,NOTHING.I drink alot of water everyday, anyway so that was not a problem for me.Going 7 days without food is alot and I was going for the 10 days, but I figured that after 7 and nothing happening was long enough.I really need to cleanse my body and was hopeing as a last result that this is what I needed, but I guess I was wrong.

Hi, thank you for sharing this info with everyone about the master cleansing. I actually got into because a co-worker was doing it and after a week, she lost 5 lbs. I later asked her to email me everything that she was doing. So here I am a month later and lost 15 lbs. But ofcourse, I wanted to find more information on this cleansing and found your website. Your website was so helpful and I want to thank you again. I feel great and was wondering if you can tell me what the best things to snack on are, when you are doing this cleansing? -Claudia.

I wanted to let you know that this cleanse did nothing for me what so ever.I do not know how Beyonce lost 20 pounds in 10 days.I did everything it said to do and more.I had to up my dose for ex-lax in the 5th day because I was not going to the bathroom at all.Of course with nothing in there but water, what do you expect. I lost no weight and I lost no waste. If I did everything like it says to do then someone tell me what the problem is.I just gave up the eve of the 7th day.

  123. on 13 Mar 2007 at 10:34 pmMichelle Nix

I just want to thank you for the information on the master cleansing secret. I tried it for 21 days and I lost a total of 32 lbs. I feel great. Tell everyone who wants to try it that its hard, but it also pay off.

I attempted the cleanse, however, my job requires me to be very active and alert everyday. After day three on the cleanse, I could barely see straight as I was super dizzy and light-headed. My line of work did not allow me to continue the cleanse. Are there any modifications that I can make to allow me to use the cleanse on an active and busy schedule?

    greetings

raylan, i purchased your guide and believe it is very informative. however, my concern is regarding the bottled water…i purchased several cases of bottled water in preparation for the cleanse (prior to reading your guide) and was intrigued when i read that section of your guide.

my question is will the bottled water interfere with the results of the master cleanse…in whole? i did my own research regarding bottled water and your information was confirmed, and it is almost impossible to find the best brand to consume. do you have any recommendations since it’s so convenient throughout the day? i’m now in the process of getting a whole house filter, but for now, will the bottled water effect my results? i’ve already started the cleanse (day 2) and want to get rid of this water.

  126. on 25 Mar 2007 at 12:40 pmashley

    Hi Raylen,
I wanted to know if there was any bottled water that you would recommend to use instead of filtered water. i am currently in school and i stay on campus so it is an inconvenience for me to have a water filter because i dont have my own private sink is there anything else that i can use as a substitute.

Hi - just started the program today! I’m tired of the lemonade already. Not sure I can drink all of it by tonight. Got half to go. Does anyone have any tips on how to get all this down? If it were just water, I could drink a gallon. But this taste doesn’t do anything for me. Thoughts?????

You are doing a great job showing people where the “water” is…It takes an independent mind to actualy commit to what you realy want. One have to have passion to life possibilities without any limitation .It is my second 10 days fast . I am on my second day . It is 5:oo am and I am drinking my laxative tea peacefuly . I am excited and empowered by my own spirit that guides me .I am one with the purpose ,intimate with my body ,united with my mind and soul…Our physical journey has to engage our spirit and fasting has been part of all spiritual traditions towards that end .Peace to you all . I just wanted to introduce myself. I have not started this master cleanse diet yet, I have been wanting to read and get any and all information on it that I can to learn as much about it as possible to know what I am getting into prior to starting it. I had moved to a smaller town about a year ago and have since put on 40 miserable pounds and I am absolutely miserable in my own skin. I have a trip to the Bahamas in May for a wedding and looking like I do now..there is NO WAY possible that I am going to be in a bathing suit looking like I do now. With that being said..I have looked into the Master Cleanse diet for weight loss and also to help cleanse my body for I am always so fatigued and have problems with BM (not consistant and when I can go it usually is painful(ie) tearing etc) So I am looking for a way to help me in that area as well. I look forward to continue to follow Raylens success in the Master Cleanse diet. Thanks for the space and time!!

I started the cleanse on Friday evening 3-30-07.. I havent been eating but Im not able to drink the 8 glasses in 1 day. Ive been drinking maybe four glasses and alot of water. Is that OK?

It is so good to hear that so many of you made it thru. I am on my second day and I feel really bad. I almost quit this morning but am hanging on. I hope it gets better soon.

  133. on 22 Apr 2007 at 8:32 pmShirley

My daughter talked me into starting the clense. I hadn’t even heard of it until she told me about it. After 2 days I was light headed, nauseated and generally feeling terrible so quit. What can I do to be successful if I try it again?

  134. on 24 Apr 2007 at 9:30 pmJon O

I don’t know what all the fuss is. I did 10 days standing on my head last spring, and 14 days this spring. I simply followed the Burroughs method to the letter, except, I did only 2 salt water flushes (weekends only) and I did the laxative tea in the evenings only, (my job does not allow me to “run” during work time!)

I felt great throughout both cleanses, except just a little sickly the second day, the second time around, and I know it was because I did not prepare properly.

It is tough though to refrain from “binging” post cleanse.

I just started my FIRST EVER cleanse. I’m abit nervous so far. I dont know how i’m going to do this MC for 14 days….but i hope i have the will power to pull this through.
I just wanted to know did anyone use Psyllium Husk for there morning routines just before drinking the lemonade drink??? ISit safe???
I haven’t read Stanley’s version of MC but i have read the book this website offers which i have downloaded. Is it the same as Stanley’s MC book?

i just finished day 10 yesterday! i feel great and my skin looks awesome. the only thing i was disappoited in the clease was that i did’t have as much garbage come ouy as i was hoping. i think there should have been a lot more judging from how everyone describes how much comes out. but i lost 13 lbs. so thats great. today is OJ all day, hope that goes well…

I stayed on the clense for 5 days….I just go t too hungry!I have an iron defencency so i dont know if it was all in mind that i needed food or really hungry.I did notice after the 5 days i no longer could drink pepsi….this is my favorite drink of choice but it made me sick..nor could i drink coffee it also made me sick,so i know this clense works!!!I’m going to try again May 1st and this time I’m sure I’ll make it the 10 days!!!

  138. on 28 Apr 2007 at 7:26 amRon

Hi Raylen, I sarted the master cleanse 5 days ago. For the 3 days prior to that i kinda prepared myself by eating only fresh fruit and vegetables and drinking plenty of water. Then I did your 3 day ease into the cleanse. For the first 2 days of the cleanse I used the psyllium husk and laxative tea (smoooth move). No extraction the 1st day only 1 each day after. So the 4th day I did the saline wash before bed. 5th day I awoke to more slightly extractions. What I’m trying to say is I don’t think I’m having enough BM’s to extract anything. By the way I drink herbal tea through out the day. I chose dandelion root chamomile and red clover. I feel normal no hunger pangs whatsoever. 12lbs lost so far

  139. on 28 Apr 2007 at 8:06 amRon

Hi Raylen, I failed to mentioned in the first comment that for the first 3 days I was not using organic grade B maple syrup. I bought regular grade B. Misled by the salesman. Also I’m pre-diabetic, type 2. but I’ve been checking my blood sugar and it has been quite good since I started the MC. 104-109 highest was 127. I’m on day 6 and am committed to 10 days. But I notice my sense of smell is quite keen now. Especially for food.

I started the cleanse intending to do it for seven days but stopped on the fourth because I had started to get my daughters cold. After the second day I had no bowel movements and for several days after finishing the cleanse still nothing. Three other women I work with had similar experiences with one of them having painful bloating. Any helpful advice for this? Otherwise I had a great experience and I plan to try the cleanse again in the future.

  142. on 30 Apr 2007 at 5:45 pmElizabeth M. Campbell

The master cleanse has been an experience for me. I experience all of the symptoms that everyone else talked about while on the cleanse. However, I knew I have to make it through the ten days.

I struggle with acne and that has shown great improvement, also my energy level has quadruple.

I feel like a new and improved person and I thank God for this great deliverance. Anyone who reads this comment, believe me, you can do it. It takes discipline and commitment. So go for it!

    God Bless,
    Elizabeth M.

I just finished the 10 day master cleanse and have not felt better in years. I found it to be easy. However I did a lot of research and preperation before I started. Reading different view points and ways to get through the ruff days. I bought the hoodia extract and added that to my lemonade. That might have made a difference. I did not experience savere hunger pains. I plan to do it again soon.

  153. on 18 May 2007 at 12:30 pmJulie

    To Donna,
I read your blog, asking how to do the diet. There is a video you can watch on line. It is very simple. The video takes you to the grogery store to show you what items to buy. Then at home, just how simple it is to cut a couple of lemons, squeeze the juice. Measure 3 table spoons of lemon juice, 3 table spoon of maple syrup grade B. and a 1/8 tsp of cyanne pepper. Stir and drink.

Ola! I am starting the MC this Friday. I have the book, the stuff and I’m ready to go! I am about 150 lbs overweight and need a serious jump start to losing weight ( and of course cleansing!) I have been eating so good for so long and nothing is budging off me so I need this shock to my system to let it know I’m serious. I have fasted before by just drinking waters, so this is not new to me. I bet there’s a ton of toxins from those darn lean cusines I’ve been eatin!;) I will keep in touch on Monday - wish me luck!!

    Hello,

I am very grateful for this website. All of my life I never had a problem with my weight until I went to college. Since I’ve been in school, I have gained over 40 pounds. I looked at myself a few mornings ago and decided its time for a change! Today will be day 1 for me so wish me luck!

    Hi Raylen,

Having enjoyed quite some months of fancy wining and dining, I find myself, somewhat unsurprisingly, about 10 lbs heavier than I like to be. So… it is time to take matters in hand. Although I already have a copy of the Master Cleanser book, I downloaded your version just yesterday and am trying to channel my mind into preparedness for fasting. I have made an attempt at master cleansing before - some years ago - it was sabotaged when my then husband insisted on having friends to dinner in the middle of my fast…. what I remember, even more than the hunger, however, is the headache caused, I think, by caffeine withdrawal….. if you have any insight as to how that may be alleviated, it would bring me some pre-fasting relief and perhaps make me feel more comfortable about embarking on the fast which I now hope that I am about to begin.

    Thanks for your help.

I’m a Personal Fitness Trainer and I did the cleanse for the sake of a few clients that were curious about it. I finihsed the Master Cleanse last week. The 11th day was Orange Juice and I never knew OJ could be so delicious and sweet. I went to the grocery store and spent 90% of my time and money on all produce. My body could not wait to get the veggies and fruits back in it. Your secret tips helped me succeed, otherwise it would have been a lot harder. It was a great cleanse and I’ll be doing it once a quarter and I’ve already recommended it to a few clients.
    Thanks for the tips.

Hello I’ve been on the Master Cleanse for 9 days and I went from 170 to 152 pounds! All my co-workers are asking me how did you do it? So I told them to check out the Master Cleanse website. I’m proud to say that this is the best thing I’ve did for myself.

Hello Raylen, First off I’d like to say that I’m impressed at the good things that I’ve read about the Master Cleanse. I’m 52 years old and I think that this cleanser will do me a world of good. This body of mine has really racked up the toxins down through the years, and being a construction worker who works with dangerous chemicals, I know that my innards are packed with unhealty debris that has to come out. I am looking forward to doing the Master Cleanse, but I have a concern that I hope you can help me with. The job site at which I am working requires me to be outside all day, and it gets pretty warm. My question to you is, would I be in any danger doing the Master Cleanse and working outside in the heat all day?, especially since I won’t have any food in me to keep me going. The work that I do isn’t hard, but it is constant and I do need the energy to keep me going through the 8, 10, and sometimes 12 hours per day.

Hi, I’m about to start the Master Cleanse and I was just wondering about what other people have been through on the diet. Is it going to be really hard? And thank you for the tips!
