Hello, I hope you’re all doing well.
There’s been lots of good feed back on this blog. It’s nice to read about your experiences with the master cleanse, and your comments have prompted the writing of todays newsletter.
It’s about the side effects of the master cleanse.
When you do the master cleanse you’re almost certainly going experience some side effects. Your body will be going through a major detox, and it’s going to affect you.
Fatigue, aches, and headaches are the most common, but each persons experience is unique.
There are some things you can do to lesson the negative effects of the master cleanse, but before I get that I think it’s important to restate the advice I give in my master cleanse guide….
—————————————————————————————
Always pay attention to your body, and don’t be afraid to stop in the middle of the Master Cleanse if you start to feel any adverse effects. Remember, the goal is good health, and you should not jeopardize your current health in the obtainment of that goal.
—————————————————————————————
I know how hard it can be to stop in the middle of the cleanse when you’ve got yourself pumped up to finish it through, but if you’re not comfortable with how you feel sometimes it’s the best thing to do.
But to help lesson those uncomfortable feeling you can follow these 3 tips…
1. Take it easy while on the cleanse. You want to avoid physically demanding activities and stressful activates. The master cleanse does take a toll on your body, and you won’t have the strength and energy you normally do so you’ll want to take it easy.
2. Drink lots of filtered water. You can drink your fill of water, but it’s important you drink filtered water. Tap water and bottled water contain chemicals, and the master cleanse is all about detoxing your body not putting toxic material back into your body.
To save on filtered water you can use a home filtration system like the aquasana that which gives you filtered water for just 9 cents a gallon. Here’s a link to the aquasana web site www.aquasana.com
3. Make sure your adding enough maple syrup and lemon. The master cleanse ingredients provide your body with nutrition and it’s important that you don’t leave anything out or skimp on certain items.
Following these steps should help lesson the side effects of the master cleanse, but please remember not to push your body to hard.
I hope this helps makes your master cleanse experience a little more pleasurable

As someone who has lost weight and is finally winning the battle of the bulge, I thank you for this great post!
Hmm, after reading all the comments I wonder about the SSF. I took it last night and this morning – I had no problem drinking it but used cold water. I see maybe I shouldve use warm? Doesn this make much of a difference because I’ve had less movement than I do on a normal day.
Oh and coffee is a BIG no no or just a suggestion? I drink only organic coffee and just had 1 cup instead of 3 this am (day 1 of the MC).
I tried to do it in the weekend. But my headaches were so bad this was only day one. I wondered, can I take anything for this? I didn’t realise you needed filtered water. I only had tap water! I also couldn’t do the Sea salt flush I tried for an hour, nearly vomitted then had the tea instead.
I’ve been on the master cleanse for 16 days now and i feel really good so I’m going for 40 days.. I’ve lost 13lbs in 2weeks and I also do the Sea Salt flush every 3 days.. The only side affect that I experience with The Master Cleanse is my monthly cycle is real light but other then that I’m good..I even go to the gym 6 days out the week and i haven’t felt any weakness in my body… ? I love it!!!
Today is my last day of the ‘ease out’ process and I have been juicing my fruits and veggies and haven’t had any problems. As for taking it easy while on the cleanse, I did on my very first cleanse. When I did the cleanse this time around, I was able to go to the gym every day starting on day 3. I did weight training ( light weights) and I did a Zumba class twice a week. I didn’t feel tired afterwards and in fact, I had a lot of energy!!
curious to know where you found the sea salted needed for the flush
Hi there,
Can I use Grade A maple syrup instead of Grade B? Can’t find grade B anywhere.
@ Hanna A: are you easing out of the cleanse? Don’t skip that part or shorten the ease out time! If you are still having trouble, I would try to drink the smooth move tea to see if that helps or take a pro-biotic
@Charles: I am on day 2 of TMC and I haven’t been doing the SWF. I’ve done it in the past and it is really awful. However, last time I did the cleanse without the SWF it WAS much harder. I think I will just brave the pain and do the flush tonight!
On day 4 of my first attempt at the cleanse and I had an epiphany yesterday evening. I was having a miserable experience with the cleanse up until yesterday with head aches, back aches, fatigue and mental cloudiness. Keep in mind, this was day three and I had not yet done the salt water flush. After reading all the negative things people were posting about their experience with the SWF, I opted to see if I could do the cleanse without it…big mistake. Now, although the SWF is promoted as a means to help your body flush toxins from your body, there is another benefit that it gives, and that is it offers a way to introduce sodium into your system while you do the Master Cleanse.
Again, prior to doing the SWF yesterday, I was feeling miserable with all the previously listed side effects. After doing the flush around 6pm, by 9pm I was starting to feel normal again. Aside from the relief experienced from the intestinal flush, my headache subsided, as did the metal haze. After experiencing such a “night and day” shift, I decided to do some research on what happens to your body when you deprive it of sodium. Turns out you get exactly all of the symptoms I was feeling.
Then I had my “no duh” moment when I realized there is zero sodium in the lemon/syrup/cayenne drink. So basically my sodium intake dropped to zero for three straight days. So if you’re considering putting off the SWF because of its negative attributes…don’t. It is an esential part to the cleanse for more than just flushing the system.
I’ve lost 20lbs on the master cleanse which is great. My problem is every time I do the master cleanse I get constipated after. Any solutions??????
I’m glad I read the newsletter today about pushing your limits. I get severe migraines, last night around 9:00pm I started feeling extremely weak and developed a migraine. I gave in and ate some fruit (grapes were handy) and drank water (filtered), a cup of herbal green tea. I felt a little better (the weakness), but I woke-up this morning with a severe migraine and had to take the medication I usually take for the migraines. I’ve been in bed all day with pain (headache). “This is common for me, so I can’t totally attribute the pain to the Master Cleanse side effects”. I’m not sure if the headaches will surpass for “me”. I had to eat fruit for breakfast, salad for lunch and a half of a turkey sandwich during the early evening. I’m thinking about re-starting the Master Cleanse. I wonder if it’s ok to do the Master Cleanse and continue eating fruits, water, and Green Goodness juices (by Bolthouse)? I’m just hoping staying on the Master Cleanse won’t make me worse considering the potential headache side effect. The plus side is the cleansing effects of day one I’ve lost 3 pounds (in 1 day!).
I’m on my 5th day of the master cleanse, I feel pretty good so far and I’ve have a substantial amount of energy , however I’m a little concerned because I have to continue working while on this and my work is fairly strenous-not to mention I ride my bike everywhere instead of drive…….my muscles are begining to cramp alittle bit. Any advice?
I’m on my fourth Master Cleanse and have switched from maple to molasses syrup because my teeth are sugar sensitive and the mix of the sugar with the acid was too much for my teeth. It worked well enough on my 3rd cleanse but since I’ve never seen this alternative listed in any of the readings I’ve done on the cleanse I wanted to ensure that it is okay. Please let me know at your earliest convenience as I’m currently on day two. Thank You!
Regards,
Monica
Every video I see people working out during the cleanse, so I did to and now I think on day 15 I may have tho stop.I’m extremely wiped out.
