How Much Weight Can You Lose On The Lemonade Diet

by Raylen on January 30, 2009

Using the lemonade diet for weight loss is a popular trend these days. Even though the lemonade diet is not technically a weight loss diet (it’s a cleanse that promotes whole body health) it is a fantastic way to drop a quick couple pounds.

The question I often get asked then is, “how much weight will I lose?”

Assuming you stay on the lemonade diet for 10 days, which is what most people do, you can expect to lose anywhere from 5-15 pounds. Some people will lose a little more but that’s the average.

Keep in mind that this is not all fat. During the lemonade diet you’ll be passing a lot of internal waste. You’ll also lose some water weight if you started the cleanse a little bloated. One tip for losing even more weight is to follow a healthy diet after the lemonade diet because you’re body will be used to a reduce calorie diet so it won’t be so hard to transition into a healthy low calorie diet.

I am on my fourth day today. Its not easy as everyone knows and i am the kind of girl who needs motivation very often. I am 21 and 4ft 11 in. tall. over weigh by almost 40 pounds. Tried lots of things but just cant stay motivated enough to keep it going. I always crave for food. So its really hard for me to keep this on but as “Hadley” said, i printed a calender for myself and marking off the days i completed. That is a good way to keep yourself motivated. Will keep you guys updated on my progress….hopefully it will be progress.

I am going to begin the cleanse soon. I am probably about 15 to 20 pounds overweight if that much. I am excited about doing the cleanse because I know I’ll be getting rid of all those harmful toxins in my body. We will see. I am pushing for the 10 days at first and see where I stand!

Louise April 7, 2010 at 5:35 am

Hi all. I’m on day 3 of the master cleanse and when I weighed myself this morning I had gained 3 pounds. I feel upset and despondent at this result. Has this happened to anyone else? I feel extremely bloated and puffy, is this normal? I am having to take the laxative in the morning and do the salt water flush at night as my job situation means I cannot run to the toilet when needed. Does anyone have any tips or advice? I’m so upset right now that I could cry!

Sahar April 12, 2010 at 9:44 am

I started my MC today, and I am very excited =)
I want to do it for 2 weeks, and when I do get to the 14th day, then I will decide if I want to continue my MC for a longer time.
wish me luck folks =)

Sahar April 13, 2010 at 11:12 am

My first day of MC was a success, I was a little hungry around noon, but when I drank my Lemonade I was fine again. I don’t do the saltwater, cuz then I have to stay home and be near the toilet ;) . I’ll do it during weekends =)

Lynda April 15, 2010 at 8:24 pm

I’m on my first day of MC. i was planning on tryin to quit smoking and doin this at the same to help not gain weight while quitting smoking, but the lady at the health food store said that might be too much change all at once.. so i’m thinking i’ll try to quit smoking the next time around. My second thought, i’m a MAJOR gum chewer. i chew gum about 6 hours a day at work! but i’m thinking i probably can’t chew gum while doing master cleanse, right? And no breathe mints is an obvious one.. but the gum.. is there Organic Gum or something? LOL! or is it just a no-no all together?

I have been reading all the comments and think it’s a waste that so many of you are only looking for a quick fix and have not even taken five minutes to read through the diet and recommendations. First off, it is more of a detox and cleanse, not a weight loss diet. You will lose weight, but it may not stay off due to it being mostly water and trapped waste. Also, if you go back to eating big macs, ranch dressing and pizza afterward, then you will definitely gain it back, it just might take a month.

If you read the book, you will get all the tips and hints for how to make it easier. It outlines why the colonics are important (and they ARE) and how you can take organic hoodia to control hunger and wheatgrass supplements for needed protein. It tells you that you need to drink your body weight in ounces, in water while on the cleanse and a minimum of 60 oz of lemonade a day.

I have never lasted more than five days on this cleanse because by day three I get blinding headaches. Still, last spring I lost six pounds and I weighed 122 when I began, so if you have a lot to lose you can likely lose a lot more, though it may take you longer to see the results because your body will go into starvation mode since the calorie intake is so much less if you’re used to eating 2000-3000 calories a day in our fast food society.

I am starting again today and hope to last at least the full 10 days. I became vegan five weeks ago and am hoping to detox the last of the harmful animal byproducts, chemicals and toxins from my system. Hopefully, my sides effects (mainly headaches) will not be as much of a problem since veganism is a natural detox in many ways. Even so, I am looking to lose weight. I am currently heavier than I was last year and the bloating and detox of going vegan has actually caused me to gain 2 pounds. So annoying.

I think you can all experience success, but this is a radical and difficult process for most of us, so take the time to do a little research. Coming on here and asking questions such as “can I still eat normal meals” while on the cleanse is pointless. Either make a life change or don’t, but realize that a quick fix might give you quick results, but that they will fade just as quickly.

Good luck to everyone!

okay so i will be doing the MC for the first time ever starting 2morrow!!! I am so nervous as i am also trying to quit smoking at the same time!!!!!!!! I really hope i HAVE THE WILL POWER TO DO THIS,, WISH ME LUCK!

Hi all! Just started a 50 day Master Cleanse yesterday and so far so good. I have done several 10 day cleanses and one 40 day cleanse and can say with complete confidence that it is the best thing I’ve ever done for my body! I personally had about 50 lbs to lose on my first Master Cleanse and I lost that in about 35 days. I would say women can count on at least 1 lb per day and for me it is consistently 1.5lbs a day, although I notice once I hit my goal weight I stop losing, so you can’t lose on this cleanse. I recommend drinking 1 gallon for the first few days – makes it easier to stay on it. Then you can cut back to 1/2 gallon a day, or 6 glasses. I also use less than half of the maple syrup they recommend – so about 1 tbsp to every 2 tbsp of lemon juice. And last but not least – I personally cannot get that salt water flush down and never have, so I drink a strong cup of Smooth Move tea every morning and night without fail – you have to do this to get the toxins out. Also find a good source for your cayenne pepper – I just switched to mccormick’s 100% organic cayenne red pepper and am THRILLED that it is far less hot than the other kind I was using. Make sure the pepper is bright red or bright orange…anything less means the pepper is old. Just get yourself past the first three days and then you are home free because if you quit at this point -without coming off of it the way they say in the booklet – you will have severe bowel issues soon after and trust me it is NOT WORTH THE FOOD. Also remember that eating will only bring you joy for a few minutes – then you have to deal with the bowel thing and the guilt and the fact that you have to start all over again. Not fun. HAPPY CLEANSING ALL!!

N April 25, 2010 at 5:21 pm

I’m starting the cleanse/diet tomorrow and I personally can’t wait!! Even though I haven’t got all the ingredients yet but I’ll get them early in the morning :) I’ve been on the Cambridge strict diet before for 5months and that was great and I found that easy so this should be fine. I’m hoping to do it for 42-49days :) so wish me luck guys.

Also, I’m gonna mark it off a calandar so it keeps me motivated. Got a long way to go!! I want to lose bout 80 lbs/5-6 stones.

Good luck to everyone else who’s doing it to. Keep us updated.x

i’m starting the master cleanse tomorrow!! i’ve attempted once but it didn’t last long but now i’m determined wish me luck!!

Caitlin May 3, 2010 at 6:27 pm

Hi everyone I just found out about the master cleanse today, I bought the app on my phone to see what it was all about, I’ve been a little bit of a health freak lately, working out five times a week and eating lots healthier then before (no more junk food) I’ve been wanting to do a cleansing method for awhile just to feel better and get my body on the right track I’m thinking about starting around summertime that way I have more time on my hands and so I don’t get distracted. If someone has advise or information on where I can find more information about this cleanse let me know I want to make sure this is the right choice.

Anonymous May 3, 2010 at 6:29 pm

i am going to start the MC tomorrow, please give me some suggestions

Emily May 3, 2010 at 10:08 pm

I have done the master cleanse once before. You don’t get hungry, but you get cravings. That’s about it. I loved the results I got. Just beware – you have to follow all of the steps exactly or it won’t work. Trust me. I’m going to be doing it again – I only do it annually. I don’t want to ‘detox’ too much before it’s harmful.

amber May 5, 2010 at 7:10 am

i am starting my MC today:) super excited and i think for everyone who says its not possible and its not a weight loss thing your all just HATERS!!!!!!!! :P good luck everyone!!!

nikki May 6, 2010 at 1:37 am

soooo nervous about this diet. i’d hate to get my hopes up..i’m 5’3 and weigh 150 something…i really want to shed at least 30 pounds. any suggestions as to how long i should stay on the diet to reach my goal weight would be awesome!

Kimberly Simmons May 10, 2010 at 11:38 am

I started the M/C today I am excited about relieving all the unhealthy toxins in my systems. I did a toxin before for 7 days and it energized me like nothing ever did before.

diane May 10, 2010 at 12:34 pm

Hey Ladies and Gents…I started the MC today and so far so good…I’ve been drinking mine with a straw so it’s not so bad…I also bout Extra Sugar free gum to kind curb my cravings…I am 5’7 and 194 lbs. I also just recently started the P90X workout regimen and so far so good on that too. The reasoning behind me trying the MC is because I heard that no matter how much you work out and how healthy women eat, that if we have all those impurities and toxins inside us and around our bellies, it is going to be hard to lose that weight…SOOOOOO the day is almost over and I am sooo ready to mark day one off of my calendar…GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!!!

Kimberly Simmons May 11, 2010 at 8:51 am

I am on my 2nd day and I have this intense headache, but everything else is coming along well. I did the sea salt flush this morning it was ok, I truly dislike the taste. I don’t think I will be doing that again I will try the garlic enema.

Joyce May 12, 2010 at 4:09 pm

I am on my first day of the MC today as well. So far so good. I am really not that hungry. I have such a hard time sticking to things but, I intend to do the MC for at least 10 days.
I Hope that everyone does well.

Kimberly Simmons May 13, 2010 at 12:04 pm

The 3rd day was not bad at all headache only last from 10:30 pm. to 3:30 p.m. went on a 45 min walk lost 3lbs

Kimberly Simmons May 13, 2010 at 12:06 pm

I am now on the 4th day feeling a little hungry but it will go away I am going to keep continue to do the swf read sea salt flushes the small intestine (colon) while laxatives clear the large intestines. No headaches

Kimberly Simmons May 14, 2010 at 11:00 am

Day 4 was extremely hard, I craved fried foods but I made it. I am now on day 5 and I am feeling great, no cravings so far I am half way through I love this Cleanse.

Kimberly Simmons May 17, 2010 at 1:41 pm

Day 6 Saturday was extremely hard I watched a lot of TV and I needed to put something in my mouth but I didn’t once I am off the cleanse I will eat at the kitchen table no more TV and eating a no no.

Kimberly Simmons May 17, 2010 at 1:43 pm

Day 7 life was easier today no cravings and I was able to watch a movie without wanting something to eat on.

Kimberly Simmons May 17, 2010 at 1:44 pm

Day 8 was also a good my tongue is still coated if it’s not pink by my tenth day I will continue until it does turn back to normal, must be toxic inside and out.

Kimberly Simmons May 19, 2010 at 1:45 pm

my ninth day was very easy i am now on the tenth day very easy. i am excited about finishing i never thought i could. The worst part about the cleanse was not being able to eat but the preparation on the flush making the lemonade and drinking the tea (exhausting).

Kimberly Simmons May 19, 2010 at 1:46 pm

nikki the only suggestion is don’t count on losing to much weight remember it’s a cleanse make sure you have your mind ready for this, this was by far the easiet cleanse i have ever done

Kim May 20, 2010 at 6:33 am

Starting the MC today… I have done this twice in the past, i feel great after, my motive is more for the cleansing aspect of this, I have never made it past 6 days…. I have a trip to Calif. Memorial day weekend, so I am not sure I will make it past 7 days this time unless Im really doing great and not feeling like I should go off it, I really have never felt like im detoxing past 6 days….
I do not do the salt water flush, as I cant keep that down, I do the tea and have great results wtih that, like clock work and it is predictable. The cayanne pepper made me naseaus the first time i did it, so I now take the caplets, I know it is less effective, but I eat very healthy normally anyway and maybe that is why i feel cleansed after 4 days usually. I usually lose about 2 lbs a day, but have never gone past 6 days and usually gain half back, I think the idea of gaining half of your loss back is a healthy way to look at it and that is if you maintain a healthy eating habits after.
Good luck to everyone, and i hope you accomplish your goal whatever it maybe, either way you will feel great when your done, the first time i did this fast I had to stop after 2 days, I was sick , throwing up, dehydrated, migraine, I had so much detoxing to do, if you eat unhealthy and need to change your lifestyle that way, i would suggest first changing that and really learn what is healthy and do that, then once your start eating good maybe a month later do this, I would never suggest going from unhealthy foods to this in one day… very bad idea.

Hello everyone,
I will be starting the master clense tomorrow. I was orginally on the HCG and lost about 36lbs, but I am not having bowel movments and I still have 90lbs to lose before this function in 3 months. It should be easy for me becasue I have been on a very low calorie diet so I think I can ween the master clense. I have come so far and I am almost there I just have to be strong. I really need some motivation out there. I hope to lose 20lbs in a week like the site says…wshful thinking.

Megan May 26, 2010 at 7:01 am

8th Day 16 pounds lost…..most important thing my whole life has changed and I feel better than I have in 10 years! I will continue this cleanse throughout the year! It is much easier than people say..you just have to be ready and focused and have lots of will power!!! Thank you Stanley Burroughs!!!!!!!!!!!

Rob June 2, 2010 at 6:08 pm

This is my umpteenth time doing the cleanse. The first couple of times I made it roughly 12 days. The third time I went 22 days and then have never gone more than 5 or so days at a time. Please do not use this cleanse solely for weight loss purposes. A healthy diet and exercise are going to take and keep the weight off safely and more permanently. I am doing the cleanse to spark healthy changes in my life and rid myself of unhealthy cravings. Also, I find that the clarity of mind that comes about around the 10th day is wonderful.

When you are doing the cleanse you are taking in almost no protein which leads to muscle deterioration. Muscles are the bodies furnaces in which calories are burned. If you do not maintain proper activity and promote muscle growth / health you are going to put the weight back on shortly after the cleanse and it will return as fat and only fat (including the weight you lost from loss of muscle mass).

I am trying something different this time as I will be drinking a raw / vegan protein powder mixed with water after my workouts to ensure muscle recovery and retention. I will keep you apprised of how it goes.

GO VEGAN

E June 8, 2010 at 2:22 pm

I just have to say that the Master Cleanse is not for the weak hearted. It has such an emotional effect as well as a physical effect. I did the cleanse to diet and lose weight – that was my only purpose in doing it. After completing it, however, when I saw how much weight I had lost, it still didn’t seem enough. I slowly became anorexic, and I’m just warning you guys, that although this diet may have a positive effect on you, that you should be wary of the psychological effects it may have on you as well. I am recovered from my anorexic spiral, but I just want to warn you guys because I don’t want any one else to go through what I did.

Hello Everyone!! Im taking the challenge after 3 months of research!! My challenge will be complete in 20 days! Im convence that this lemonade cleansing, diet & fasting will help me reach my weight goal of 104!! Once there I will continue to eat healthy & workout!! I will keep that weight at 104 no matter what!!!!! Im 29 yrs old, 5’3″ & weight 160 lbs! Im also a mother of 2 & Puerto Rican so Yes I love to cook & eat too! Puerto Ricans use to cook almost everything ADOBO, Sazon & Sofrito, which are very delicious spices of our culture but yet very fateninggggggggggggg!! Must hispanics are traditionally raised with many fatty foods & by blood we atracted to unhealthy eating habits as many other cultures… But that is not stoping me or any others that want to have a healthier & more positive life!! I always told my mother I was going to do alot better things for myself & when I had my own kids for them too! So I have so far & I will continue to but the best thing I can do for them is teach them & give them a healthier & more positive way of eating, which is a heathier & most beneficial lifestyle!! So, I started about 2 yrs ago eating healthier foods & working out every day but havent seen much results… Im a therapeutic massage therapist with an AS in health science soon to open my business & I want to feel & look GREATER THAN GREAT!! I also want to be able to help lots of my clients that have weight problems too!! So I decided to take the challenge to be able to test it for me & them!! As a therapist, it is my believe that this form of cleansing can be very beneficial to ones body, mind & spirit, which is what therapeutic massage & I stand for!! But in order to find out if my believe is a fact I must face the music for myself first!! Im going to prove the beneficial effects to myself & then I will tell!! I love my life & Im almost sure I will love it even more ones I achive this weight goal!! Hey I made it though my degree with 2 little girls, so this should be a walk in the park! best of lucks to everyone & myself!! WE CAN DOOOO ITTTTTT! I will let yall know if it worked for me too =.)

MTTS June 9, 2010 at 3:36 am

Hello Everyone!
I’ve done the MC before about 2 years ago. I started it today and finally made it through day 1!! YES!! I was a bit irritable today. The first couple of days is really hard to get through. I am doing the herbal laxative, thinking about switching to the sea salt. I want to stay on it for 14 days. I need motivation! Good Luck to you all!

Malissa June 18, 2010 at 11:01 pm

Hi All,

I’m beginning the cleanse tomorrow and hope to go for 10 days and longer depending how I feel on day 10.

I’ve done a lot of research and know it will be difficult, but the committment in and of itself perpetuates my motivation – and the weight loss! This is just what I need for summer and I’m concurrently training for a trail half marathon in the latter part of Sept.

Wishing everyone much luck!

im goin to start the mc tomorrow wish me luck

Sarah June 24, 2010 at 6:01 pm

I am planning on starting the diet tomorrow. I have tried it before but only lasted 7 days. I plan on doing it 21 days this time. Its hard for me to stay motivated because I really crave food. I have a 5 mo. old baby and tend to eat when I’m tired. I need to lose over 40 lbs and I feel like I’ll never do it. I need to have a friend to help motivate me but I really don’t know anyone. Well, wish me luck and I’ll update as I go.

Phebea June 29, 2010 at 3:55 pm

I’m on the relaxed version of the maple syrup diet whereby I eat one healthy meal a day and the rest of the time I drink the syrup with lemonade and cayenne pepper. My weight loss is slower than other peoples for obvious reasons and iv lost 4 pounds in 5 days, which is still good and I think I’d be more likely to keep the wait off as my diet isn’t so drastic. I tried the SWF yesterday and it was gross, I could barely keep it down, bur like clockwork it works! Would definitely recommend doing it in the evening not in the morning however. Good luck everyone, and please remember to stay healthy. X
