How Much Weight Can You Lose On The Lemonade Diet

by Raylen on January 30, 2009

Using the lemonade diet for weight loss is a popular trend these days. Even though the lemonade diet is not technically a weight loss diet (it’s a cleanse that promotes whole body health) it is a fantastic way to drop a quick couple pounds.

The question I often get asked then is, “how much weight will I lose?”

Assuming you stay on the lemonade diet for 10 days, which is what most people do, you can expect to lose anywhere from 5-15 pounds. Some people will lose a little more but that’s the average.

Keep in mind that this is not all fat. During the lemonade diet you’ll be passing a lot of internal waste. You’ll also lose some water weight if you started the cleanse a little bloated. One tip for losing even more weight is to follow a healthy diet after the lemonade diet because you’re body will be used to a reduce calorie diet so it won’t be so hard to transition into a healthy low calorie diet.

I am on day 4 of the cleanse, And I dont feel like I am eliminating as much as I should . I forgot to drink the laxative tea on the 2nd day. BUt I have been drinking the tea at night and I did the salt water cleanse this morning. It really worked! Should I do it again at night ?
Also, My skin is breaking out , is this normal?
thanks for you help

I started the master cleanse today. I had no idea this existed until I saw a tv news report a few days ago. Since then I started researching and this site has been very helpful. Got myself motivated, did the required shopping and here I am on day 1. I have to admit my main motivation is loosing some weight. I really never had that much problem with my weight but in the last four years it’s been a battle. Right now I have 20 pounds more than what I should. I know is not much but boy! are they hard to loose. And when I do loose some, how quickly they come back and multiply! In any case, being healthy is also a big concern for me. I have Psoriasis Arthritis and I was using Enbrel until I started getting a lot of side effects I was not too happy about. So I decided to take charge of my healt by changing my diet and my habits. Funny thing is that I used to eat very healthy back when I was living in Colombia but since I came to live in the states I just got all the wrong habits. I started with the tea last night (smooth move), tasted really good (I love those teas anyway), this morning I had the sea salt water (that one tastes awful and I had a hard time doing it) and I am drinking the lemonade which tastes great to my surprise (I was a bit worried about the taste of the cayenne pepper). I had for lunch the wheat grass powder diluted in water, that one also tasted very good. I am also using the Hoodithin extract in my lemonade. So let’s see how it will work out. I am very positive about it. As you can tell from my long comment I am also applying the tips to help me get focused and entertained (keeping a journal too). I was expecting to go more to the batchroom though, but I only went this morning. Could it be because I have been using laxative teas for a while? (I drink one cup of tea every day before going to bed). The only chnage I noticed is that I am urinating a lot more.

Second Day on the master cleanse. I have thought about cheating many times today. I am really craving for food… comfort food like bread and sugar. But I am convincing myself to stick to the program. Keeping the journal is helping to take mi mind away from food and remind myself my goals. One thing is strongly having me motivated today: I had already lost 3.5 pounds. I think it is mostly water though. I am concerned I am not going to the bathrooms all the times most people say the do. Just one yesterday and one today so far. Is this a good or a bad sign?

salisha ali March 2, 2009 at 2:43 pm

Hi, it’s my first day of a thirty day Master Cleanse am starting off at 205lbs and really not comfortable with that. I am doing this cleanse to remind myself of how strong I really am and to kick start into a new and different way of eating. My healthy way.
Am hoping i can connect with someone who is also doing the cleanse and starting today.

Lady Leo March 13, 2009 at 6:51 pm

Hi all,
I’m going to kick start the Master Cleanse on 03/16 Monday. I have been on the cleanse a few times but the longest I lasted was 6 days. So this time I plan to do a full 10 days. I’m excited!

Julien March 16, 2009 at 1:57 am

Hi Raylen
I can’t get Maple Syrup in New Zealand but we have the best honey available, can I use honey instead?
What and when can one eat during the MC?
Thanks.

Bullfrog March 16, 2009 at 8:15 pm

Hey. I started today too. Did it once before for 8 days but that was years ago. I’m kind-of trepidatious about it. I’ve been scarfing down the toxins with some abandon for awhile, so I expect it to be rough. I want to go until I get fully cleansed. Started off ok, except that the store by me was out of water last night, so I had to use filtered tap water for today, but I’ll get the corrected tomorrow. I’m using bottled organic lemon juice from Whole Foods. I know a lot of people say you have to use fresh lemons, but I don’t see how they can be that much better than what I’m using. What do you think?

tiffinie March 17, 2009 at 7:37 pm

hello everyone i start my cleasing tomorrow i really hope it works and i can have a healthier body. my boyfriends friend just got off the diet, he did 10 days straight. his face was breaking out but afterwards it cleared up he looks and feels awesome

kiki March 20, 2009 at 9:38 pm

hello i plan on starting the mc monday. im getting motivated reading these blogs. i love junk food, so this might be real hard for me, but ima give it my all. wish me luck!!!!!!!!!!

Laura March 25, 2009 at 8:11 pm

I have been doing the MC for 7 days now. I lost 5 lbs in 5 days. Day 6 dont know what happen, but I gain 2 lbs??? Now I did cheat just a little, I had a hand full of mix salted nuts. I didnt eat 2 lbs worth, so I must have retained water. I have been eating carrots and celery every day, I keep them ready to grab before I have time to reach for something else. My waistline when down about half of an inch, but I was able to put on and wear a pair of jeans that I had tryed on today, day 7, that I could not bring together to button on day 4. Surprised that I haven’t felt ill or headaches. Also I am not straving hungry, not stomach pains like when you are hungry. If I do start to feel like I need to eat somthing, I grab my carrots, celery or a large glass of water. I have lost lost 37 lbs in about 2 yrs by just cutting portions and carbs. The weight loss was very slow, but I think this is why I lost the lbs and have kept them off. I am on several medications that cause weight gain. I am barely 5 feet tall, my weight top out at 192, I was the live example of an apple shape. When I start the MC I was 155 lbs. My top weight should be 138 lb. I have dream of the day I would be 138 lbs again. I am doing this for me, but my husband has not been atracted to me (if you know what I mean) for about 10 or more years. When we got married I only weight 108 lbs. He has said that he doesnt notice the change for 192 to 150, everyone else has but not him. I have been dieting for years and keeping food dairies. For the past 2 yrs I did not do this, also I haven’t done any regular exercising but I will now. I weight my self every morning and measure my waist as soon as I finnish brushing my teeth. Then I write in down on a calandar,
this makes me award right away if I need to cut down and watch what I eat. Sorry for the long story, but I hope I might be able to let some people like me know that it takes time and if you stray to foods you know arent low calorie, just think of it a special treat. Don’t deny yourself a treat you may want and only have a small about. There are not rules you are runing the game with your guidlines not someone else’s. Good Luck to everyone who is attempting to eat better and lose pounds

Buffy March 27, 2009 at 9:57 am

Hi all! I’m on day one today, just had my first glass of juice… hoping not to get hearburn from the cayenne, which happened last time. Might reduce it a bit just in case. I am doing 10 days this time (10 the first, 7 the second on past MCs) and hoping to be a bit active to shed a few more pounds – walking, serious house cleaning, etc…

lildevil April 1, 2009 at 10:16 am

HeY I STARTED THE LEMONADE DIET THREE DAYS AGO BUT ITS HARD BECAUSE IN THE MORNING I DONT GET HUNGRY BUT IN THR NIGHT IN CRAVING SO I DONT KNOW WHTA TO DO?

Ut Mommy April 8, 2009 at 4:41 pm

I did the MC 8 months ago but only made it 5 days with a total weight loss of 10 lbs. I looked at it as a success but gained it all and more back during the winter. So I’m on day 3 now and very determined to stick it out and continue with good eating habits. Looking good in a swim suit is a great incentive. Unfortunately I hate the taste of the lemonade. I thought it was the cayenne pepper the first time so this time I take 2 cayenne pepper tablets with each serving (8 oz.). It helped a little. The first 2 days the cayenne will burn but you get used to it and I kind of like the warm feeling now as apposed to a burning throat with every sip. I also hated the salt water wash so I take the laxative tea a.m. and p.m. You should stop using the laxative tea as soon as you go off the MC though or you will become dependent on it because it is a stimulant laxative. So not healthy for daily use.

Elizabeth April 8, 2009 at 11:42 pm

I am getting ready to start the MC tomorrow and I am not excited about putting the cayenne in the lemonade so I bought some tablets hoping I could substitute this…but the only thing I could find is cayenne fruit … do you know if that is the same thing? You say you take 2 tablets with every glass of lemonade?? That would be 12 tabs a day if 10 ounce is the single serving. Can you tell me does it work the same way? Also kinda curious if it is normal to take so many wheat grass tablets…the wheat grass I purchased says 2-3 servings of 7 tablets per day…gee that seems like a lot, that’s 14-21 tabs a day…WOW…….I would appreciate any feedback, as I am abit nervous but yet at age 49 need to do something to get that stuff out of my system.
Thanks!! Elizabeth

Elizabeth April 9, 2009 at 9:38 am

Well this morning I started, but the question I have now is all that sugar in the maple syrup. I not only want to cleanse my body but I need to lose alittle weight and become balanced. I’m a bit worried about all that sugar. I do not eat candy, drink soda or many sweets for that matter…

Elizabeth April 9, 2009 at 3:19 pm

Forgive me for leaving so many comments but I am trying to find my way on this MC…..I have noticed that all the liquids I have taken in so far today I have not even come close to getting rid of half…which means I have put on almost 5 pounds since I woke this morning … on the first day! Is this normal???????? I thought drinking lots of water and the cleanse would at least help me go. I don’t want to gain weight….I want to clean the body and get rid of some weight…..what’s going on…..??

janis April 11, 2009 at 10:00 am

Day 2 for me. I am encouraged by your company. I awoke with a headache but oddly enough no hunger. On day one I worked (really physical labor) yet still had energy to hike with my dog and walk 2 miles. Saline cleanse BITES. I took 20 oz rather than full qt. and still vomited. Will try 16oz tomorrow. Read a blog about discomfort with tea, so I drank 1/2 glass diluted with pure water last night, will try more tonight. So far-except saline, its great. I like the taste of the ade, I have lost of energy and I am excited about being clean. My urge to smoke has nosedived, but I do miss eating. I love food! But I am into this experiment and hope I see it through, see what my body is really made of. Apparently, as of now, lots of gross stuffs. Gimme 10 days! I will be clear as a bell. Good luck everyone!

coxswain43 April 12, 2009 at 9:00 am

Hi everyone!
I just recetly found out about the master cleanse diet from my crew team coach (I am a female coxswain on a college men’s crew team). She has done it for between 5- 10 days three times a year for over 10 years ans swears by it. Somehow I managed to gain the freshmen 15 (granted, I was very underweight to start with) and the last few months has been craving and eating carbs, candy, and fried foods and generally feel terrible. Since I am an athlete and tend to be vulnerable to blood sugar drops and swings, I am going to try it for 2 to 3 days this first time. Today is my first day and I just finished my first glass of the lemonade (I think its yummy…). Good luck to everyone!

antimer April 14, 2009 at 9:13 am

Hi all, Its day2 for me. I woke with a slight headache but no hunger. Had a restless sleep up and down to the bathroom. Got through the 1st day with flying colors. Had to go to a dinner party but I was able to sit through the whole evening just drinking water. Man was that tough!!!! Got lots of razzing about being on the MC so that made me to want to complete it even more. My friends are all watching so I have no choice to carry on. I do notice though that I am a little tired. Hope you are all persevering.

RUPAM April 16, 2009 at 8:39 pm

Hi all,
I am prepping up to start my lemondae diet tomorrow …. doing my research ….. I am a regular exerciser and workout almost 2 hours each day and also take sauna sessions. My concern is how much of cardio workout/ resistance training is reccommended during the diet?? should i go about my normal workouts or decrease it a bit?

Toni April 28, 2009 at 2:36 pm

I am on day two of the MC. I have recently stopped smoking and put on an extra 15-20lbs. I plan to take off this new weight with the MC and transition into a healthier diet. It’s soooo hard not to eat food.

Toni April 28, 2009 at 2:37 pm

But I’m gonna do it.

Vee May 7, 2009 at 11:58 am

Hello all I am also very excited with this cleanse
I am also wanting to loose 20 lbs as well however I am looking forward to cleansing my body of all these toxins. Hopefully after the cleanse I will no longer crave sugar and junk food. I cant wait! This is my first day of 10-20 day cleanse… hope i succeed.

Amy May 9, 2009 at 6:25 pm

This is my 1st day of the MC….So far so good, I am a house wife so i’ll be home which hopefully will help if I get dizzy like I have with other fasts. Hope to drop the bloat I gained in the past 2 months!!!

cocaine May 17, 2009 at 2:41 pm

I am on day two of master cleanser diet and I want so bad to eat something I put a few zapps potatoe chip crumbs in my mouth a few minutes ago. I felt like I needed something tasty in my mouth. I have been chewing sugar free gum it helps with the taste of the drink and coats your throat when the pepper goes down. Is this okay? This is my first time on the diet and I am only doing it for seven days . Is that ok? ( reason I am 5″5 and 170 pbs. ) I dont know if I am trippn but yesterday I weighed 170pds., and today the scale said 163pds. is that possible? And I had forgot to drink the tea last night is that ok? And I am not doing the salt water flush in the morning because I work early in the morning is that ok? And I have a question for the lady that said she eats carrots and celery is that okay to do? Can I eat fat free yogurt ,oranges , grapes tomatoes any thing?

barbara marchionne May 17, 2009 at 6:15 pm

I have a question. How long can i stay on the cleansing program and after first ten days how much can you lose with each ten days that you stay on?

Claire May 20, 2009 at 12:13 pm

Hey all, I am on day 2 of the MC. So far so good. No headaches. However I decided to do the lax tea nightly and the salt water flush every other morning. The swf is just too much pain and requires too much bathroom time and I work in a small office so I just cant manage it into my schedule. I started @ 158 pounds and want to get down to 148 in 10 days. I am not going to lie, I am doing this strictly for a quick weight loss plan. Not because its healthy or permanent but because my wedding is two weeks and I am hoping to have my photos show a thinner, healthier me. The fact its also a detox and helps your skin is just an added bonus for me as I do have psoriasis, and am hoping it helps heals it a little. On day 10 I will update you all to let you know =)

CS May 25, 2009 at 6:49 am

Hello,

I started the cleanse today and i just had a question.. Should i mix excercise with the cleanse? Do you think that will provide more drastic results? Or be somewhat dangerous? Your feedback is much appreciate.

Crystal May 25, 2009 at 12:40 pm

I’m on day six of the master cleanse things are going a lot better. I have a lot more energy when I wakeup. I didn’t want 2 do the salt water thing so I do the herbal laxative but it’s not making me do the number two anymore since day 5. I didn’t do it for the weight lose I just wanted to clean my body although I am 5′ 5” and way 194 pounds. I don’t have a scale but all my shirts stay button now so I take it I lost some weight. I go for my physical with my doctor tomorrow so I will do another post to tell how much weight I lost. Oh and another plus I had not had a cigarette in 3 days either the taste just gross me out hopefully I will quit altogether. then on day four I kind of cheated because, I have a pregnant sister that visits and wanted to go to Mc. Donalds ( thats one of my weakness) well I ate 2 of her fries but I spit them out so I didn’t swallow so I guess thats ok. well I did start out with only wanting to do 10 days but I might do 14 depending on how day 9 go. To every body out there that just started good luck and trust me it does get easier at this point for most.

taz May 27, 2009 at 3:44 am

what can i eat during my master cleanse

Nicole May 28, 2009 at 10:27 am

I have spent the last week reading numerous blogs and diaries of people who have completed the cleanse. I have decided to complete the 10 day cleanse for numerous reasons obvious to jump start my weight loss, I need to change my view of healthy eating. I completed a 60 day hot yoga challenge during that time I did not eat out, I did not count calories but I would always make sensible meals eg chicken’n'rice never lasagna or somethign equally fatty and I quit drinking alchohol and completed 90 min of heated yoga a day. I am around 50-60 pounds over weight. During taht time I ended up losing 2 pounds, I was so frustrated and hurt that all that effort was for naught, i did feel healthier since then I eat 1 meat portion a day or so i think i tried writing everything down but I am haviung trouble keeping track I need a wakeup call., I am going to complete this cleanse to say I did it and to make my own judgement on whether or not it is a successfull endeavor. I want to loose weight i think the majority of people who try the cleanse are doing for that reason but I also want to take away the need for food to recognize what kind eating patterns i have whether i eat cause bored, emotional, or genuinly hungry. Now today being the first day I am not going to lie I have mentally decided I was going to quit about 17 times already, since I have only started 4 hours ago my resistance to the cleanse is obviously psychological. I am not starving I am starting thsi cleanse at work and I think that is working again st me as well, I have more time to think since i am stuck at my desk till 1pm and all i can think about is the fodo I want to eat another thing i noticed is I would always go out for lunch on payday get sushi or a sub or salad and I am missing that since today is payday, another psychological reason i eat. I need to recognize when i am hungy as opposed to when I trained myself to eat

KYZ May 28, 2009 at 11:27 am

Hi! Ia mon day three of the master cleanse. I have done the cleanse twice before. I have only lasted 8 days. I am trying now to do the 10. On my first cleanse, I exercised and it made me super hungry.. and I couldn’t continue the cleanse. I woudl recommend giving exercise a rest and focus on just drinking the juice. Trust me .. you will lose weight.

Rena May 31, 2009 at 4:23 pm

Renee June 24, 2009 at 10:29 am

Hey Everyone! I’m on day 8 of the Master Cleanse. I have lost 13 pounds thus far. I’ve gotten to a point where I no longer crave food. The key to weight lose is not to eat anything while on the cleanse, hence the name “cleanse.” Your body is expelling all impurities and waste, therefore, although some say that you can eat certain foods, it’s best not to cosume anything by mouth other than the Lemonade concoction, laxative tea, and the salt water drink. Personally, I can’t tolerate the laxative tea or the salt water, so I didn’t do that this time around. However, my weight lose is great even without these two, so it’s not something that you HAVE to do, but it is suggested. Good luck everyone!!!

Geno July 20, 2009 at 7:06 pm

Hello my Master Cleanse Family,

I’m starting it tomorrow. I went to GNC today and got the concentrated mix, it was on sale for $17.99! The regular price is $34.99 so that may be another option for some people. The store clerk told me that they are flying off the shlef, I bought the last one! So lets all stay focus and make this happen. Just like the other person said on here, “What is 10 days when this can change and better your life and health!! So I’m in it, so you guys keep me lifted!!

Thanks,

-GENO

Elaine August 1, 2009 at 11:19 am

I am on day 7 of the Master Cleanse and am planning on going for another 7 days. I’ve only done the SW flush twice, once on the 1st day and also today. I cannot do that during the workweek due to a very long commute. I am drinking 5 10-ounce glasses of the mixture (2 T fresh lemon juice + 2 T grade B syrup + 1/10 tsp of pepper + water) every day. I also have a cup of decaf peppermint tea every afternoon as it really settles my stomach. I hate the taste of the pepper, as well as the burn going down. BUT… it’s worth it because I’ve dropped 12 pounds in 7 days. I am hoping to reach 20 pounds by the end of day 14. Day 2-3 were awful (headache, tired, hungry, caffiene withdrawal, etc.) but by day 4, I felt really good. Energized, not hungry nor tempted by food around me. I can’t wait to see the results in another 7 days!

I am so excited to start! I am Going to start tommorow!
Iv heard so many gret things about this diet or Master cleance!
i have been taking this pill called the Lipo6 for women, its for weight loss, should i still be taking this when im doing the lemonade cleance? will it effect the weight loss or cleance? Or will i loose more weight? Can i use something other than maple surup like honey? And are we only supposed to be drinking the drink and the salt water cleance and tea, and not not eat anything for the next ten days?
Well iv been trieing to loose weight for a long time but i always give it up not even on the third day but im confident that im going to finish all the 0 days of this cleance. I was going to do this a while ago but i never had he surup. Can i use something other than grade B surup because i cant find it anywhere!
Thanks

Vanessa August 17, 2009 at 7:19 am

ok, for one you really aren’t supposed to eat anything processed at all.. so no yogurt, no salted nuts..nothing. if you feel the need to cheat, small portions of fruit and vegetables, uncooked, is doable and won’t interfere with the detox. SMALL PORTIONS. don’t wolf down 5 apples, and then some broccoli and a salad in a day. Remember that any fruit or vegetables eaten, is still CHEATING! The whole point of the diet is to relax your body of it’s normal digestive processes in order to cleanse it, so you need to calm down on any eating in order for it to work at all.

Everything used must be organic, BTW. NO bottled lemon juice because of the amount of sugar and preservatives. Obviously any kind of fruit or vegetable juice is undoubtedly better when made from the fruit itself before drinking. Not just on this diet but in everyday life.

The maple syrup HAS to be GRADE B, no exceptions. Grade A has so much sugar that if used, you can actually gain much more weight than you want, as it’s all sugar really and doesn’t supply the nutrients intended for your body the way the GRADE B does. NO HONEY! NO EXCEPTIONS! Honey is sugar and will hinder your detox competely! If you can’t find the maple syrup, you can substite it for BLACKSTRAP molasses, but be warned that this is much stronger, thicker, and more bitter than the maple syrup. I enjoy it, because I like bitter things, but most people would probably hate it.

Exercise is also not recommended. Because this is a FAST, and as with all fasts the body is sustaining itself on very little calories, exerting too much energy can be dangerous. If you feel the need to be active, and find yourself with enough energy to do so, go for it. I’ve done this a few times already, and find myself with energy some days and run down on others. You need to LISTEN to your body. The whole point of this is to learn to understand it better anyway, so LISTEN TO IT!

As for weight loss, anyone who wants a quick fix is going to be in for a big surprise if they intend to go back to their regular eating habits, eating junk and processed foods, etc. This is supposed to kick start a new healthier lifestyle and mentality, not help you lose your last 20lbs so you can go back and eat cake and cookies once your done!

Happy cleansing!

Gina August 20, 2009 at 11:32 am

Hi everyone…I am gonna start the cleanse tomorrow…I cant say Im as excited as all of you…cuz not eating is totally mind over matter…most over weight people do not eat when hungry…but on emotions…I used to be so in control of what i ate and then recently I just gave up…I eat out almost daily only to hoard down laxatives…which are slowly killing me…im sure…this has to be a turning point for me to get a right frame of mind…as for weight loss…i do want to get back down to about 120-125…as I am now 130-132 due to all the junk ive been eating…which really just makes me feel awful physically and mentally…=)

I hope everyone has a great experience with their cleanses and succeeds in all they are hoping for…goodluck…=)
