Question From Italy About Grade B Maple Syrup
Jan 16th, 2008 by Raylen
Today Jennifer from Italy posted a comment asking if you can substitute grade A or C maple syrup for the grade B syrup recommended for the Master Cleanse, and if it’s alright to chew gum when you’re doing the cleanse.
Ciao Raylen,
I am writing to you from Florence Italy where I have lived for 13 years. I have started the Master Cleanse and today is my 4th day. I am doing really well, but have an emergency question…I purchased Grade B maple syrup in the states, but apparently too little (I had not read the quantity in the recipe when I purchased). I have only been able to fine Grade C here in our health food stores…..is that ok? The same? Do I have to compensate in any way? The people in the stores have no clue as they do not carry Grade B only A and C….
Also…can I chew gum on the Master Cleanse? I have not because I did not think so, but this white tongue thing…..
Thank you so much for your time!
a presto!
Jennifer
As far as using grade A or C maple syrup it depends on the grading system. In the US we no longer have grade C for retail use, instead grade C is now “commercial grade” syrup.
As long as the maple syrup you’re using is all natural, and not some name brand like Mrs Butterworths you should be fine.
You also asked about chewing gum on the master cleanse, and that’s also fine as long as you don’t swallow the gum. A mistake some people make is to label the Master Cleanse a fast when in fact it’s a detox diet. The master cleanse lemonade has quite a few calories (about 100 per glass), and most of that is sugar from the maple syrup so a few pieces of gum throughout the day won’t hurt.

I did the cleanse for 12 days, lost 12 pounds and so far after a week of eating grains, fruits and vegetables, I have lost two more pounds. It was the best thing that I have ever done for myself and also, I haven’t had a cigarette since 1-31. However, I folllowed the cleanse to the letter and did not have any major eliminations as you mentioned. During the cleanse it was like lemon water and afterward, daily eliminations as before. Am I missing something? I dranl the SW flush every morning and the tea every night.
where do you find grade b maple syrup? I didnt even know that there were different grades.
If the cleanse has so many calories how do you lose weight…let’s be honest, that is what alot of people intially do this for?
I am on day 7 of the Master Cleanse. I am a little worried that for some reason it’s not working properly. For one thing, I do not have a white coating on my tongue. It looks like this is supposed to happen, but it hasn’t with me. Also, I am hungry and craving food all day long. The lemonade tastes horrible, so this has been extremely hard for me. I have not cheated at all, though. I also have not had any solid waste come out. It’s always like water. I follow the recipe to a tea, and I do the salt water flush twice a day. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
One thing that I forgot to metion: I have horrible heartburn most of the time on this cleanse. I normally don’t have any heartburn. My stomach is constantly churning and unsettled, too. When I make the lemonade, I wash the lemons (non-organic) and cut them up. Then I put them in my juicer with the peel and all. It doesn’t seem to grind up the peel, but there is a lot of pulp in the lemon juice. Could this be a problem? I am also using water from my refrigerator, since I have a water filter installed in it. Should this be ok? It seems to be a good filter.
WHERE CAN I FIND MAPLE SYRUP GRADE B IN WEST PALM BEACH FLORIDA
i really want to start the master cleanse but since you have not explained i need to ask.i am not supposed to eat anything throughout the 10 days or what.please answer me
In regards to where you can buy Grade B Maple Syrup, you can google the question or go to Trader Joes. For a 32 oz container, it cost $11.99. I do the cleanse every six months and it’s great. I retain alot of water so all that water wait comes off within the first couple of days.
To Karina, no, you are not supposed to eat anything for the entire 10 days. You can find the instructions and the first 30 pages of the book here http://www.blackdoctor.org/TheMasterCleanse.pdf
I’ve been reading that Blackstrap mollasses can be used in place of the maple syrup “b”, is it replaced amount for amount in the receipe? or is the amount need to be adjusted?
I’m planning on doing the master cleanse, but i’m still doing my research. Since it’s my first time I’m planning on doing the cleanse for about 3 or 4 days, but how long should i wait before i do my next cleanse?
