Question From Italy About Grade B Maple Syrup

by Raylen on January 16, 2008

Today Jennifer from Italy posted a comment asking if you can substitute grade A or C maple syrup for the grade B syrup recommended for the Master Cleanse, and if it’s alright to chew gum when you’re doing the cleanse.

Ciao Raylen,

I am writing to you from Florence Italy where I have lived for 13 years. I have started the Master Cleanse and today is my 4th day. I am doing really well, but have an emergency question…I purchased Grade B maple syrup in the states, but apparently too little (I had not read the quantity in the recipe when I purchased). I have only been able to fine Grade C here in our health food stores…..is that ok? The same? Do I have to compensate in any way? The people in the stores have no clue as they do not carry Grade B only A and C….

Also…can I chew gum on the Master Cleanse? I have not because I did not think so, but this white tongue thing…..

Thank you so much for your time!

a presto!
Jennifer

As far as using grade A or C maple syrup it depends on the grading system. In the US we no longer have grade C for retail use, instead grade C is now “commercial grade” syrup.

As long as the maple syrup you’re using is all natural, and not some name brand like Mrs Butterworths you should be fine.

You also asked about chewing gum on the master cleanse, and that’s also fine as long as you don’t swallow the gum. A mistake some people make is to label the Master Cleanse a fast when in fact it’s a detox diet. The master cleanse lemonade has quite a few calories (about 100 per glass), and most of that is sugar from the maple syrup so a few pieces of gum throughout the day won’t hurt.

Ash, if you have a Whole Foods grocery store where you live you can find Grade B maple syrup there. Trader Joe’s also has it, again, if you have that store near you. Just to let you know, and if this applies to you, there’s a Master Cleanse iphone app that is really good. It has a shopping list of ingredients, nutritional virtues of all ingredients used, a pre-cleanse preparation guide, instructions while on the cleanse, a post-cleanse guide, tips, and a very nice feature is a weight tracker and progress tracker so you can see the weight you’re loosing. I know the Master Cleanse is first and foremost a body/mind detoxification program, but hey, losing weight is just one of the nice perks of doing the master cleanse!

Is it ok to use 100% organic lemon juice from whole food store in place of the freshly squeezed lemons?

Hi I am wanting to start the M.C. Diet but I am a bit confused about the whole laxatives and Salt water flush. When do I take a laxative and should it be tea or a pill form? Do you have to do the SWF if you are doing the laxatives and if so when and how often do I do the SWF? HELP!!!

Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s are good suggestions if you have them where you live. You can find really good grade b syrup online though and at good prices.

I prepared six containers of pre-mixed cleanser with all ingredients added . I read the article on storing the pre-mixed cleanser . it indicated that the mix could be stored with the maple syrup and lemonade in the fridge , the pepper should be added later . Will the ingredients still be effective

Yea, i’m currently thinking about starting the “Master Cleanse Diet”, so that I may lose some unecessary weight. As I was reading others comments on how it helped them, or how it was introduced to there lives, has made me reach a decision to continue with Master Cleanse, wish me all the lick in the world, and to all of you as well!

Is it best to use fresh peppers? If so, do I just chop them up and add to water. Also, Is distilled water ok to use.

For people who are going on it first time, this is the shopping list(for 10 days):
Recommended daily serving is 6-12 glasses of lemonade, 6 being the absolute minimum.

At least 30-40 lemons, or more depending how many you drink a day.(1 lemon=2 servings. If you drink 6 glasses a day, that’s 3 lemons a day. so times that by 10 and you will need 30 lemons. If you drink 8 glasses, you need 40. 10 glasses will need 50 lemons, 12 glasses will need 60 lemons.)

Maple syrup(grade B or C)-at least 2 liters. (one serving is 30ml. If you drink 6 servings a day that’s 180ml. 8 servings =240ml, So times that by 10. For someone who drinks 6 glasses, 1.8litres; 8 glasses 2.4liter. 10 glasses 3 liter, 12 glasses 3.6liter.)

Small bag of cayenne pepper
Small bag of unrefined, uniodized sea salt(epsom salt)
Box of laxative tea(recommended brand-traditional medicines organic herbal laxative smooth move senna)
Measuring spoon(just 1 with tsp and tbsp attached at each end is good enough)
Water bottle(600ml/20 oz size is good)

Btw it is recommended to use just pure clean water. Distilled water has been boiled, killing all the minerals so it isn’t as good.

If you are breastfeeding you should not cleanse at all. The toxins that come out of your body go into your breastmilk.

i’m really interested as trying this master cleanser as a “detoxification program” to clean out my system in order to reduce the amount of acne i have & for healthier skin overall , but i’m not looking to loose any weight but since the weight loss seems to be a “side effect”, for lack of a better phrase, can anyone advise me on what can be done to minimize the weight loss…..

Thanks in advance
