Grade B Maple Syrup

by Raylen on March 23, 2007

I’ve been reading through the comments and it looks like some of you are having trouble tracking down grade B maple syrup. It might not seem like a big deal to substitute regular commercial brand maple syrup, but it actually is. The refinement process for comercial syrup strips it of its minerals, and while you’re on the Master Cleanse it’s important that your body gets the vital nutrition that grade B maple syrup provides.

If you can’t find grade B maple syrup my advice would be to try your local health food store. You can also check your regular grocery store, but be sure to check the product labels yourself because most store employees probably won’t no the difference between grade B maple syrup and regular maple syrup.

If you still can’t find any grade B maple syrup you can always order some online. The link below will take you to Amazon.com which sells grade B maple syrup, and offers speedy shipping. You an also do a Google search for “grade B maple syrup” which turns up a few sites selling grade B maple syrup.

PS. It looks like I’m going to go on a Spring Master Cleanse some time next week. I’m open to starting any time, if there’s a specific day you would like to kick this thing off let me know.

I am on day 18 of the Master Cleanse . I have not lost any weight for 3-4 days and wondered how to jump start it. i do the laxative tea at night and have several bowel movements in the morning. i drink a lot of purified water. Should i just put the scale away? It is discouraging. Any suggestions? i am not hungry and I enjoy fasting. I am 56 yrs old. My blood pressure is back to normal. i have been doing the 3 mile walk away the pounds for abs every morning for 45 minutes and i feel great. But, why am i not continuing to lose weight?

Susie Taylor March 25, 2007 at 5:36 am

I love fasting and i am on day 18. I have done this before and I lost 26 lbs in 29 days. I love the way it makes me feel. But, I seem to be staying at the same 15 lbs of weight loss for about 4 days. Why am I not losing? I work out for 45 minutes every morning(3 mile walk away the pounds for abs)I drink lots of water. I do the laxative teas. Any suggestions?

Just a note about locating the grade B maple syrup. Trader Joe’s stocks it as does Whole Foods (both in Northern CA.). Your local health food store will order it for you if you ask them!

Is there a big difference with Grade A vs. Grade B maple syrup?

ann April 17, 2007 at 11:32 am

I am on the master cleanse but I have had something to eat only a little do i start over

Anne-Marie May 19, 2007 at 3:37 pm

Hi I have been on the master cleanser for 3 days and I have a question about the maple syrup. I have bought the organic and it says organic maple syrup 100% pure and natural but it doesn’t say grade B on it.

Ronald Howarth June 1, 2007 at 6:26 pm

Fasting is fine. I have done a few over the years with improvements overall. ALthough not a fast I and numerous others have found the ultimate to be The Purification Rundown as outlined in “Clear Body, Clear mind.” It is for spiritual gain although as a rule extraordinary physical fringe benefits are there for each to experience. You may do it by the book and feel free to contact me for input from an experienced one. All the best.

Just started day one, part of a family of 5, son 10, daughters 18 & 21. We are a pretty close bunch. I am in my 40s, and have been carrying around extra weight, and not feeling so great latley. Thought I would give this a try. Am on day one. I seem to be a bit late as all other writings are from March to June. Is anyone else out there

Bobbie November 9, 2007 at 7:48 pm

I’m on day 5 and my hunger pagne’s have not subsided…am I doing something wrong? I have the salt water flush, the tea at night, about 80 oz of lemonade and usually one peppermint tea during day along with water.

I have been looking in so many places for the Maple syrop grade B in New york and finally I got an answer at a organic Grosery store. He said that “Grade B can’t be sale in New york.”

If you are planning on doing this diet in New York order the syrop online!

Hi – I have been researching the Master Cleanse and am going to start it this weekend. I am looking forward to the experience and have read all good reports about this cleanse. I am also the mother of 2 teenagers who like to eat and will still prepare meals for them. Any advise?

Bobbie March 6, 2008 at 9:59 pm

Good luck Donna…maybe a good time to let them fend for themselves and learn their way around the kitchen! :)

jen May 4, 2008 at 11:22 pm

This may be a stupid question, but all I could find is grade b maple syrup. No where on the bottle does it say that it is organic. Is there a difference?

Kelly June 24, 2008 at 1:38 am

U CAN USE MAPLE SYRUP GRADE A IF U CAN’T FIND GRADE B!
This is a paragraph from the Master Cleanser Book By Stanley Burroughs himself:

“The maple syrup is a balanced form of positive and negative sugar and must be used, not some
“substitute.” There are three grades of maple syrup. Grade A is the first run— mild in taste, sweet and
with fewer minerals than the other grades. It is more expensive and less desirable but it may be used.
Grade B is the second run with more minerals plus more maple taste. It is more suitable for the diet and
is less expensive. Grade C is the third run with even more minerals and still stronger taste of maple and
slightly less pleasant for most people, although acceptable in the diet. It is lower in price. As Grade C is
less expensive it can be used as an excellent sweetening agent in preparing foods. The strong maple
flavor blends very well.”

My roomate and I are starting our master clense. We are both are about 40 pounds overweight. We want to loose fat not muscle. Is it inevidable or will the fat go first? Dont know where to look for a response. my e-mail is jason.tillery@yahoo.com

Eric June 29, 2008 at 9:30 am

What about pure honey? Can it be used instead of the maple syrup? If not what is so special about the grade B syrup? The honey is cheaper and taste better.

Ksweets July 29, 2008 at 7:22 am

Hey there.. I am on my 4th day of cleansing and came across this site.. I noticed alot of very yound people wanting to know if it is safe and how much weight they will lose. Remember this is a detox not a weight loss program. Weightloss is one of the benefits BUT! you can over step it very easy. Be careful!! For those of you in your teens. It is as safe as you feel it is. Talk to your doctor!! Please! If you are determined to use this as a way to lose weight then please please follow the correct instructions. STOP reading websites as they differ very much!! Go get the book. Any health foods store should carry it. ( Whole food, Sprouts, Wild oats, Sunflower Market) If not try calling your local book stores or just get it from amazon. ( Not sure if its there or not) But follow it as it was intended and not for more than it was intended. There are people that can go long periods of time on this but seriously, Try not to be on it more than 14 days.. I will try to get on here as much as possible and help some of you. Don’t be afraid to ask.. The website or your doctor!

Hi – I just finished reading the Master Cleanse Secrets and am getting ready to start my first ever cleanse on Friday. I know my biggest challenge will be preparing meals for the family, and not being able to eat them. Maybe I’ll cook the stuff I don’t like :) I’m wondering about the Grading of maple syrup up here in Canada, compared to the US. We don’t have Grades A,B and C. All I’ve found are No. 1 and No. 2. I’m guessing No. 2 is the equivalent to Grade B as it is darker, and less refined. Does anyone know if this is the correct maple syrup? I’m really hoping to drop about 10 lbs with this cleanse, but more importantly to be able to sleep better and not wake up with stiff, achy hands and feet, and a stuffed nose.

evalou September 27, 2008 at 6:48 pm

I am amazed at all of you saying you can’t find GRADE B maple syrup…..here you are, sitting at a computer………
type in grade b maple syrup and buy!!! I just this last week purchased mine from Vermont Trading. A fellow co-worker and I went together on it. If you buy two gallons, it is $58.00 a gallon and no shipping. I ordered on Wednesday, and the mailman delivered it to my door today, clear on the west coast. THREE DAYS, no shipping and no tax, you can’t beat that.

For those of you asking about the different grades, stick with the GRADE B, there was a reason for that, read about how it is tapped. It is the last tapping from the tree, so it has total different things in it than does the syrup that was tapped first, and second.

jenni October 20, 2008 at 10:54 am

What size bottle of Grade B should I get to last the 10 days????

Martinik October 22, 2008 at 7:26 pm

mel October 28, 2008 at 2:02 pm

i just started the diet today, and I wanted to know will it work the same if I don’t drink the tea or salt water?

Em November 5, 2008 at 1:25 pm

Hey guys. What is the ENTIRE recipe and way of using ALL ingredients for 14 days??? I would love to try this. I sounds like a great way to detox the body. I’m 22 yrs old, 5′4″, and 140 lbs. I’m a medium build and when I was 120 looked healthy as can be. I’d like to get back to that. I walk 3 miles a day 5 days a week. So anyone that can help please e-mail me at EmilyD19@yahoo.com. Thanks!

I finished my first cleanse last week and was quite pleased with the results. In fact, my husband was so impressed that he’s now on it.
As for the maple syrup, the Canadian equivalent to the grade B is the No.1 Medium. One can find this information simply by Googling it. We bought ours at Superstore.

Grade B available from Garden of Eden in NYC

Elouise January 14, 2009 at 1:42 am

Hi, I’m hoping to get through to somebody that can assist

I live in South Africa, Pretoria and I’ve spent a good deal of time checking where I can get organic grade b maple syrup and have encountered the following problems- our health stores here only have medium grade a maple syrup and, and to order it via internet and have it shipped is a ridiculous option due to the shipping charges ($84) for 1/2 gallon which only cost $42

I’ve also spent time checking for appropriate substitutes- specifically blackstrap mollasses:
Blackstrap molasses nutritional values-
2.00 tsp
13.67 grams
32.12 calories
Nutrient Amount DV
(%) Nutrient
Density World’s Healthiest
Foods Rating
manganese 0.36 mg 18.0 /10.1/ excellent
copper 0.28 mg /14.0 /7.8/ excellent
iron 2.39 mg /13.3 /7.4 /very good
calcium 117.53 mg /11.8 /6.6/ very good
potassium 340.57 mg /9.7/ 5.5 very good
magnesium 29.38 mg/ 7.3 /4.1/ very good
vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) 0.10 mg/ 5.0 /2.8 /good
selenium 2.43 mcg /3.5 /1.9 good

I’d like help on this topic, it would be awfully depressing to not be able to do the cleanse- I have gotten psyched up about it and (paid for the book)

I’m aware that the grade b maple syrup is a very specific ingredient, I would not like to take a health risk in nutrient deficiency, even in ten days- so if there isn’t any other serious option please say so.

Thankyou for your time and effort

Please let us know if you should find anything cheaper!

Scott March 19, 2009 at 7:42 pm

Janey (29), look at Kelly’s response (18), 100% Maple syrup is Maple syrup whatever it is. Whether it be Grade A,B,C,D…it will suffice. Some taste better than others and some have a very nominal difference in nutritional value, BUT ALL ARE FINE. Read…think…

THIS IS NOT FOR LOSING WEIGHT! It is a DETOX. If you want to lose weight, it’s about RIGHT DECISIONS. You have to exercise, research foods that are healthy for you, and keep to it. It is a lifestyle. Quick-fixes do not work and they are for people who dissatisfied with what their lifestyle has led to AND they think they don’t have to change permanently.

For those asking for “substitutes” and where to buy the syrup. Come on. If you are making something as simple as a recipe calling for lemon juice, cayenne, maple syrup as complex as Rocket Science, you need a reality check.

If you are wondering how much of a certain part of the recipe you should buy…multiplication? Spend less time on this blog researching and more time on the web looking up volume conversions and…math.

AND LASTLY ***MOST IMPORTANT***

If you are in your teens, or please Jesus…younger? And even thinking about this diet. You know as well as I do it is not for a detox. You want to lose weight. This is NOT the way to do it. Reiterate (say again) NOT THE WAY TO DO IT! You are borderlining the dark abyss of ANOREXIA. You are young, and it is much easier for you to start a lifestyle routine of eating healthy and exercising. It’s slower, it hurts, it’s hard. But you know what? It’ll stick for your lifetime once you are used to it, and trust me you will get used to a healthy lifestyle. This will build more confidence in you for doing something for yourself, sticking to it, and being healthy.

Yeah, I’m blunt. Yeah, I hurt some feelings. I am not a know-it-all. It concerns me that people think this way…or don’t think at all…either way, leading to a helpless attitude on life. YOU CAN DO IT!

P.S. For the old lady on DAY 18 exercising and worried that you aren’t losing weight (maybe because when you don’t eat your metabolism reaches flat-line), you have a problem. You are going about this the wrong way, and NEED TO EAT.

Mike March 23, 2009 at 9:19 pm

Hey I am 22 and I am 6′1 and am now 290. I have just finished my last year of college football. I gained about 40 pounds in order to switch position and keep my scholarship. But that 40 turned into 50 and that 50 turned into 65. But it was not all healthy weight and I was eating very bad. So is this detox the right thing for me because I dont want to loose muscle. Please I need answers I wanted to know before I start working out again because Im determined to get back to 240 at least. I really want to get to 220. I NEED HELP!!!!!!! LOL.

Mike March 23, 2009 at 9:22 pm

Oh and is there anyone who had good results using grade A organic syrup. Cause im in WV and cant find any organic shopping centers. you could e mail me

Marisol March 25, 2009 at 9:24 am

glenda stephens March 28, 2009 at 6:07 am

Anoah April 9, 2009 at 6:37 pm

The truth is that there really is no nutritional difference.

Alyss April 17, 2009 at 10:35 am

Hey Mike…I’m doing my cleanse for the first time today; not to lose weight necessarily, but to get everything out of my system because I have been sick so much lately. Even though I myself am in the midst of the cleanse, this cleanse should for sure help you start your healthy lifestyle again. You should definitely lose weight if you stick to the cleanse for 10-14 days…I mean think about it, you’re going from eating terrible to reducing your caloric intake to almost nothing. Exercise as much as your body will let you while on the cleanse to keep your muscle. The trick is going to be when you finish the cleanse, you have to make healthy food choices to maintain your new weight. You should have a pretty easy time losing the weight and keeping it off once you do seeing your an athlete and not afraid sticking to something once you’ve started….good luck!

bettylou April 17, 2009 at 10:56 pm

PLEASE let me know how much molasses to use, in place of maple syrup.

Josh April 21, 2009 at 6:30 pm

Scott- Although you present some decent information, it is all negated in your delivery. Also I consider some of your assertions to be incorrect.

The grade of maple syrup may not be important to some, but if each individual grade merit discrimination in the book then I would suggest taking this into consideration as you make your choice. You suggest “thinking”. I presume that this is what people are doing as they make their decision. If you consider that this is basically a fast, with minute amounts of nutrition being taken in over an extended period of time, then even nominal differences can make the difference!

Also you deride the motives of certain folks taking the cleanse. I agree that weight loss should not be the overall emphasis for those making the attempt; it is nonetheless a pleasant benefit. Really how long does it take for toxins to be removed from the body? I’m sure this period varies for each individual, but I would venture to say it would not be more then 10 to 15 days for anyone. Why then circulate that this cleanse can be done for up to 45 days if not to take advantage of many of these secondary benefits?

Really this is a blog and as such people can bring whatever they want to it in relation to the cleanse, even if this involves amounts and vendors. As to your other points… those of the young girl and the fact that you’re an ass, I agree.
