Signs Of An Unhealthy Colon

by Raylen on December 3, 2007

Your colon is the organ that eliminates toxins from the body. When your liver cleanses the blood, it is sent through the colon to cleanse the body of toxins. These toxins if allowed to build up in the body can cause the body to slow down, become sluggish and you could become ill.

Your digestive system has two exits, the mouth, and the anus. When toxins have nowhere else to go they make their way out of one of these exits. Therefore, a person can experience nausea, vomiting, gas, bloating, diarrhea, constipation and excessive flatulence or burping. The excessive gas is caused by what is called intestinal toxemia.

This occurs when bacteria (flora) in the digestive system begins to break down undigested food. They excrete toxic gases and toxins in the body. These gases can build up in the gut and cause pain, cramps and discomfort. Intestinal toxemia can be caused by an imbalance of gut flora or by a sluggish or stopped up digestive system. Instead of the food being excreted, it has time to putrefy and be digested by gut flora.

Another sign of poor colon function is bad breath. This is caused by food putrefying in the gut and can be the result of gases being released by gut flora. In addition, chronic heartburn can be a problem. This is caused by problems with stomach acid, too much food in the stomach and a sluggish digestive system.

When the toxins reach the skin, the skin reacts by trying to rid the body of the toxins. This can result in acne or in allergic type reactions such as rashes, blemishes, and hives. The skin is the largest organ and the body is responsible for some respiration and exchange of gases. When the skin is full of toxins it cannot get rid of them, the skin and lymph glands underneath the skins outer layer become stopped up and that is why acne occurs.

When the gut flora becomes unbalanced then it opens the body to infections. This results in the overgrowth of yeasts. These result in Candida infections. These can occur both internally and externally. The signs are itching in the rectum, vaginal area, or what is termed “jock itch” in males.

You can also experience itching in the ears or between the toes and bottom of the feet in the case of athlete’s foot. A rebalance of gut flora and decrease in yeast in the body can often resolve these problems.

Another external cue that there is something wrong in the colon is thin, weak cracking or peeling fingernails. This is because of unhealthy cuticles that are full of toxins. This is also true in brittle hair that breaks or is falling out.

As you can see, there are many different signs that your colon is in need of cleansing. No one symptom is an indicator of a problem. Signs of a healthy colon are at least one good bowel movement a day. Two or three bowel movements are even better. The stool should be walnut brown, and should be excreted easily.

If you notice any of these healthy signs not occurring it could be the sign of an unhealthy colon and a colon cleanse should be performed. You can follow these steps for a easy internal cleansing.

A diet high in fiber should also be considered to help rebalance and keep your colon healthy.

Hello, I am on my 3rd day of Master Cleanse, I did the 3 days before as well. I have suffered with heartburn or acid reflux for several years now and have seen a doctor. He prescribed the 14 days of Prilosec. This of course didn’t work, until I started Master Cleanse, I would take a Prilosec every other day for relief. I have not taken any for about six days now, today I’m having some burning, will this go away? Will all the lemon juice and pepper make it worse? I know this sounds stupid, but all it took was water to get my heartburn started. Hope you can help!

I am 25 and have recenlty been super bloated. I take beano before eating and it really doesn’t help. I have decided to do the master cleanse to see if it will help with my constant discomfort. Has anyone else had this same problem?

Hi JJ,

I just turned 26 and have had close to chronic bloating for over 2 years! I tried so many things without long term results. I am on day 12 of the cleanse hoping it will help me out! I’ve been a little bloated (nothing compared to usual), but I think that’s due to just getting my period. I also suffer from acid reflux and sinus problems, and haven’t had any issues with those. Close to my 10th day I decided to extend it to 15 so I hopefully nip this bloating problem in the bud! When I get back on to regular food, I’ll let you know what happens!
