About Me

My name is Raylen Sterling. I started publishing the master cleanse secrets newsletter because I’ve gained so much (physically and mentally) from going on the master cleanse that I wanted to share it with others.

I plan on going for 25 days. The hunger and the cravings totally are all gone food is not even on my mind. I started out weighing 176.8 and now I weigh 169, my goal is to be 130.

I begin my first day of 40day master cleanse tommorrow and it’s restarting myself!

zuko August 23, 2011 at 9:54 am

will the mc work without the maple syrup

zuko August 23, 2011 at 9:31 am

Hi I wanted to know if you can substitude the maple syrup with black molasses?

Eva August 17, 2011 at 2:00 pm

I started my MC on Monday, today is my third day. I ate fruits and vegetables two days before I started. I haven’t felt hungry and I am able to watch people eat in front of me and be mellow about it. However, I do feel rather lightheaded and small head discomfort.

Its a mind trip, because you’re not hungry but your mind is always aware of the fact you haven’t consumed solids in three days. I try to control my mind and keep reading the MC booklet over and over to reassure myself I am giving my body the nutrition it needs. That is the most difficult and scary part.

Sierra August 12, 2011 at 11:25 am

Sandra,
That happened to me once too. I think I didn’t lose any weight in an entire week. But just keep going because once I got off the fast and then began to eat solid foods, my body did continue to lose weight. You will just see the results later. I am on day 13 and haven’t weighed myself for the very reason that I don’t want to be discouraged.

Richele August 9, 2011 at 8:45 am

I have had success with the MC, averaging a pound/day. My question is can I continue the MC right after a colonoscopy? Will I still get results? When I intellectualize, it seems to me that a colonoscopy doesn’t rid toxins like the MC does, so continuing with the Mcleanse wouldn’t be futile. Help!

April Ortiz August 7, 2011 at 7:58 pm

I have started the MC and I started at 212 and my goal is to get under 200 so far Ive been on it for officially a day and lost already 4 lbs. Ive done the diets and nothing work and now my family dont believe im serious so this is my way to tell them I am.
I am a mother of a 1 year and a babysitter to a 2 year old so being active is not hard to do :) I have been writing a journal and the first thing I did notice about the cleanse is the first day headache, but my willingness wont let me give up………..

Sandra Pacheco August 4, 2011 at 11:27 am

Day 20 of the cleanse and haven’t lost anymore weight since day 7. What am I doing wrong? I am still drinking my 8 glasses, and drinking only 1/2 the amount of maple syrup than recommendedon the book? I am 5’7 and weigh 204 lbs, so it’s not like I have no more weight to lose. What is happenning? I am following the intstructions exactly (adding cayenne pepper, drinking my senna tea and morning SWB, having boweld movements 2-4 times day etc. etc.), even went back to Stanley boroughs book and re-read the instructions – why have I stopped losing weight? I know that my body is detoxing, but still it’s very frustrating – to be starving oneself for 13 days and not have lost any additional weight? Something is wrong.

Sandra Pacheco July 29, 2011 at 1:52 am

Oh and one more other thing … about the cravings for food. I have gone out with friends and family (twice now) since I started (on my 12th day) all I drank was peppermint tea, ate nothing and watched everyone else around me eating food that smelled great and which I once used to love – but no cravings for it whatsoever! Unbelievable. Another positive side effect so far is that I feel much more at peace, calm and clear minded about things – don’t get as stressed out and emotional about certain things (or should I say certain people LOL) anymore. It’s incredible the impact that food has on our emotional state etc. makes you wonder what they put in our food nowadays … especially the meats, fish etc. that we buy. FDA, ha that’s a bunch of bologne! They are more concerned about the food industry and keeping people on meds than making us healthy – FDA receives alot of subsidies and financial support from large food distributors and pharmaceutical comapnies who lie to the public about what we are actually eating and how bad it is for us. Illness and disease is a multi million dollar business for FDA, pharmaceutical companies … so why would they want us to know/learn about alternative methods and foods that are actually good for us and improve our health? It’s pretty sad when you think about it … on so many levels sick really …. others making money on people becoming overweight, sick, suffering and chronically dependent on medications etc. because they are brainwashed and are not being made aware of alternative solutions. It doesn’t surprise me … it’s no wonder why the FDA ban certain supplements like “stevia” because they say “it’s not safe” and aspartame is? Or how about all the hormones/steroids that we consume found in our chicken meat? When did society start labelling food as “organic” isn’t it right to assume that everything should be? Sad that we have to pay more for food that is healthy for us, because the “organic” farmers etc. don’t receive subsidies/support like the larger chains do for producing more “garbage” for us to eat. The FDA is getting big subsidies/financial support from the makers of sweeteners and the larger food manufacturers, beverages etc. that use them – as well, our government receives alot of financial support from pharmaceutical/food industry as well – so it’s not in their interest to have strict legislation on what food/beverage manufacturers can put in our food and label it as “safe” or make the public more aware of what we are actually consuming. Ie. bleached hollywood white bread with saw dust added to it so it can be called “fibre”? Since when was wood saw dust considered as appropriate fibre for us to consume? And why was the fibre removed in the first place, only to put back “artificial” fibre (aka saw dust) in it’s place. So this is what the FDA deems as safe? Hmmmm Hmmm …. there are alot of interesting documentaries and literature on this. People need to wake up. Looking forward to finishing my 40 days and having this Lemonade Cleanse detox some of this crap out of my system … only wish I knew about this sooner!

Sandra Pacheco July 29, 2011 at 1:29 am

This is my first time doing the cleanse, been doing it for 12 days now and feel great! I have been following it to the T … drinking 6 glasses and using only half of the amount of maple syrup (as the book suggests one can do to speed up weight loss), been taking my senna laxative tea every evening, my SWB every morning, eliminating 2-3 times a day. Originally when I first started, I couldn’t imagine being able to stick to it for 10 days … but it’s been a breeze, almost too easy and I am now left wondering if I am doing something wrong? I have read Glickman’s book, Stanley Borroughs and many other comments etc. which warn about various “detox” symptoms, but besides the white coating on my tongues (still not turned pink) , the occasional headache and one or two days of feeling a bit tired and achy arms (all during the first 3-5 days) I feel perfectly fine. What does that mean? Does that mean my body isn’t detoxing? Prior to starting this cleanse I wasn’t a big “junk” and tried to eat healthy (so I thought, prior to reading Glickman’s book) but I followed the standard American Diet (meat, fish, dairy, wheat products and processed foods etc.) so I was expecting lots of toxins. I don’t smoke, drink much or addicted to caffeine etc. but still … LOL here I am complaining that it is too ease!!! I don’t know, maybe I’m speaking too soon? Do people usually have major detox symptoms within the first 10 days? And if not, does that mean they are still to come? Also, another question … first 8 days I lost 16 lbs, but for past 4 days lost absolutely nothing! Is that normal? I know that the benefits of a detox far outweigh the losing weight, but still … I can’t imagine not losing weight if I am only consuming 6 glasses (which is the minimum amount) with have the maple syrup and following the instructions perfectly. Why have I stopped losing weight? It’s not like I don’t have anymore to lose LOL … at 5’7 started off weighing 220 and not down to 204 …. my goal weight is 160. I don’t plan to lose all of my weight with the cleanse, but I do hope to lose quite a bit as I plan to continue on and do a full 40 days. I know it’s not recommended for a first timer like me, but so far I feel great and want to see how far I can go. Your thoughts, comments and shared dilemmas experiences are greatly appreciated. Not complaining … but just wondering why I stopped losing weight? Has this happenned with anyone else?

Nicole Burrows July 27, 2011 at 12:07 pm

I have one quick question. I have fibromyalgia, so i would like to try this, but I also have polycystic kidneys, so would this be safe for that?

melanie July 26, 2011 at 12:49 am

Norma July 18, 2011 at 11:11 pm

What’s up! I just started MC 2 days ago. One question: what is the average weight loss per day/week?

Does MC help get rid of nail fungus and Acanthosis? Thanks for reading.

Caleb from TX July 18, 2011 at 11:01 pm

Hey everyone! This is my fourth day on MC. I am doing this because I have read and seen many testimonials. It’s been hard… I need some motivation. I keep thinking on FOOD (pizza, burgers, tacos, menudo, pozole, tripitas, tortas, nopalitos, etc) ! Please, someone tell me what you have done to stop thinking of food. I am serious about this. I really need to improve my health. I have a sleeping disorder (sleep apnea). Thanks. Chao.

Sarah Mason June 23, 2011 at 8:49 am

To Anonymous: I worked out every other day while doing MC. My friend just did 10 days of MC and lost 10 lbs. and she too worked out. Just listen to your body and it will let you know what’s working or not. As I mentioned earlier, I had zero side effects, no hunger whatsoever, and started to feel energy returning to my body around the 5th day of MC. Good luck! I’m down about 22 lbs. now.

Anonymous June 22, 2011 at 4:06 pm

Can a person work out while on the diet????

Nancy June 21, 2011 at 8:12 pm

oh and I also use a brita filter to filter my water. Would this be ok to use instead of buying filtered water??? Thank you

Nancy June 21, 2011 at 8:04 pm

Hi I am interested in starting the Master Cleanse and doing some research before I begin. Can someone please tell me if I can use boiled water?? I don’t ususally buy bottled water, I typically boil it. Would this be ok to use for the master cleanse. Thank you!!

Rosa Rod June 20, 2011 at 8:58 pm

I completed my 10 days on the Lemonade diet. I do it at least 3X’s a year. This time, during my cleaning I had to take a drug test. The test read that it was diluted and therefore inconclusive. I took the test once again on the third day after the cleanse. By that time I was eating the soup. I failed that one too; it read “too diluted”. They will give me one more chance since I told them I do not take drugs!!! I will take the drug test once again in 4 days. What do I do? If the test comes back “inconclusive, they withdraw the offer and there is nothing I can do about it.

nelcida ogando June 20, 2011 at 8:18 pm

today is the night before i start the MC…I’ve read all the comments on this blog and eduacted myself to the fullest of what im getting into..im really excited to start tomorrow.. big question..the weekend is coming..can i drink alchohol? plus im on birth control pills right now? how would these 2 affect the MC? anybody please..thank you!

Sarah Mason June 20, 2011 at 12:07 pm

I started MC on 5/28 cold turkey and followed it religiously for 14 days and lost 14 lbs. Day 15 I started eating oatmeal, sweet potatoes, and steamed vegetables for a week. I started MC again but substitited non-organic lemons and Grade A organic syrup due to cost for another 5 days. Have lost 20 lbs. total. I had zero side effects and experienced hunger only on the 14th day so I assumed my body was telling me it was time for solid food. What I have learned is I can now easily pass on the fried catfish, T-bone steaks, tacos, etc. Definitely is a mental challenge and I was scared going into MC I would die from hunger but I can honestly say once I made the mental commitment it was a breeze.

Nyia June 17, 2011 at 1:21 am

I just bought 20 organic lemons, a bottle of organic syrup & one small container of cayenne pepper. The amount you need really depends on how much you drink each day & how long you’ll do it. So just keep everything you bought. You could decide to do the cleanse again!

Tiffany June 16, 2011 at 11:56 am

Hi, I’m a first time user of the master cleanse diet. I went out and bought all the ingrediants needed but, I think I needed a little more than what the recipe called for. I had to buy 2x’s as much was needed and am wondering has anybody else had to do the same thing?

Jade June 11, 2011 at 5:15 pm

I wanted to try the master cleanse do to ackes and pains throughout ny neck area i heard the master cleasns would do the trick. well I will not lie it was hard the first few days but the hunger pains for me came on the 3rd day at night i drink so much water through the day i cant sleep at nite although when i do sleep my dreams are more vivid in color day 6 gave up havent had bm at all i dont know if this is normal one reason to do the cleanse was for that reason.should i have kept going?

D June 4, 2011 at 7:50 pm

Started the cleanse today. I had 1/2 cup of fresh OJ this morning and then have had about 20oz of lemonade and the laxative tea. I will attempt to take it in the morning but I will have to get up really early if I want to take care of business before work. We’ll see :)

Christy June 2, 2011 at 12:37 pm

I just started the master cleanse and wanted to leave a few helpful tips:
1. PREP!! Definately prep before you do it at least 2 days before–dont eat badly and get all the stuff you need to make the juice for at least the first week. Go to a Whole Foods store so you don’t have to go to 4 different stores to get what you need. I’m doing the cleanse for 10 days and it cost me around $30 to get everything I needed including the water, SWF, and laxative herbal tea. Oh, and be sure to get exactly what it says…I mean, do you really want to do this for 10+ days and not get the maximum benefit??
2. Rid the house of junk-if you cant rid the house of junk because you live with others, get some healthy cheat snacks (green apple, small orange, rye cracker). If you have to cheat give yourself some rules, like: I must drink a cup of the juice before I cheat and see if im still hungry and I must journal that im going to cheat and what I cheated with before I can have my cheat snack or extra workout that day. But dont cheat big otherwise, whats the point?

Good luck with your journey!! I’ll keep you posted on mine :-)

Annie June 2, 2011 at 11:26 am

Hi,
I have found a few things that have worked better for me on this cleanser diet. For one I had to substitute the maple B syrup with Agave nectar ( I had to, the Maple syrup B was making me throw up every drink I took). Is this ok??? I also mixed it up with the decaf tea and that helped A LOT. I love drinking the tea laxative in the morn and at night, it also helps to calm my nerves. I take the cayenne pepper pills which is much better to deal with, it does give me heart burn so I just suck on a mint or some sugar free hard candy and it is gone. I have lost 7 lbs in 4 days. Annie

Ashley May 31, 2011 at 5:53 pm

I’m starting the MC tomorrow and hope to loose weight for a graduation in 10 days, i also want this to be the beginning of a healthier diet. Would using the organic Grade A syrup for just the first couple of days be bad? I can’t get the Grade B for a few more days, none of the stores in my area sell it. Any suggestions help thank you ( :

Nana Frim May 29, 2011 at 10:58 pm

By the way you are doing a good job, very thoughtful of you. I have found your site supportive and motivating. I will keep you and your readers informed on my progress.

Nana Frim May 29, 2011 at 10:53 pm

DAY 2 of master Clense and I feel okay. I have done a ten day before but did not add the laxative and the salt water. this time i have read much and doling it according to understanding. My question is I want to loss 100lbs as the added benefit do you recommend I do a thirty days striaght or better break after ten days. Can I decide to fast every month for the rest of the year or until I loss all the unwanted fat?
I am 55yrs currently weigh 255 at 5’3″ and on hypertensive medication.
Whats to come to down to 155 by the end of the year.

renee nelson May 19, 2011 at 7:39 pm

starting this tomorrow – wish me luck I’m going to need it

Kathy May 18, 2011 at 7:20 am

Oh yeah…and no…honey is NOT good during the cleanse. Burroughs talks at length about not using honey…not just during the cleanse, but he says, ever. Get the pamphlet from a health food store. If they don’t have it, they can order it for you. other people seem to disagree with him, but he talks about it actually being bad for you. I have always heard honey is very bad for babies, but was surprised to hear him say it was not good for anyone.

Kathy May 18, 2011 at 7:14 am

Hi…Thank you to Jenna for what you wrote…I have Mr. Borroughs’ pamphlet I got at a health food store in Ocean City, Maryland, and everything you said is right from his book…as I know you know…but not sure others do. I wanted also to reply to some of the things I read. @ Gary Agave necter is not the same for the cleanse as Maple Syrup. The author of the Master Cleanse talks about the properties of the maple syrup and all the vitamins and minerals the syrup has naturally and how the syrup and the lemon and ceyanne pepper together work in a balanced formula to do this…making the blood alkaline instead of acidic, thus helping cleanse it and the organs etc. Agave is not the same as Maple Syrup…

Also @ Sharon…the author himself did not recommend doing the cleanse longer than 40 days.

@ someone I can’t remember….I had bowel movements on the first few days of the cleanse, but then nothing except maybe ceyanne pepper on the 5th and 6th days…and then another bowel movement on the 7th morning….so even if it seems like you are finished having anything come out, you may not be. It seemed very strange to me, but it was true!

Thank you to all have posted here. Anyone who knows another good juice to use instead of OJ when coming off the diet please let me know! Thanks!

Rita May 13, 2011 at 3:07 pm

Well this is day 5 and I’m feeling great and managing not eating much better than expected… however I have only had two very very small bowl movements… shouldn’t I be expecing more… I’m drinking approximately 5 to 6 .. 500lml of water a day…

Marilyn May 11, 2011 at 5:16 am

Hi, I live in Australia and have started the 3 day master-cleanse. I have found that we don’t have Grade B Maple Syrup. I have found 100% Maple Syrup in the supermarket and I am buying that. I do hope that this is OK. I do love the taste of the lemonade and have no problem sticking with it. I look forward to seeing the results. I do plan to try the 10day cleanse but am just giving the 3 day a go. Thank you, Marilyn

olivia kyei May 9, 2011 at 11:23 am

and maple syrup with honey

olivia kyei May 9, 2011 at 11:22 am

God bless you for sharing your experience. i hope to do the cleans in the future, Please can i replace the wheat grass with moringa or cinammon tea since its not available in my country and i do not have the means of ordering with credit card.

Kelley May 6, 2011 at 12:37 pm

Hi there,

I’m on day 3 and haven’t really experienced any problems. My energy is way higher these first few days than I expected, but I’m also not eliminating as much as I expected. I upped my laxative intake last night and this morning, in addition to the SWF.

My question is about aches & pains. I have a pronounced pain in my lower back on the right side that I’ve never had before. Could this be from toxins releasing? I’m scheduling a detoxifying massage for day 5. I’m surprised getting a massage isn’t recommended.

So have you encountered people with odd aches & pains during the cleanse ?

thanks!

Lori April 26, 2011 at 5:17 pm

Hi Raylen,

I’ve been on the MC for 7 days now and feel incredible. The first 3-4 days were the most difficult but I have had good energy and feel awesome now! One tip that may help anyone that has difficulty with the cayenne pepper. I found cayenne pepper pills at my local whole food store and just take 3 a day instead of adding it to the lemonade and it’s worked great! Good Luck everyone – stick with it…it’s worth it!

s April 26, 2011 at 12:57 pm

hello

Thanks for your advice on this site. Day 2 of the master cleanse I did the SWF in the am and drank herbal laxative tea the night before. This worked but my bowel movements were just water only, does this mean I have nothing built up inside as they cleanse suggests?

Thanks

Helene April 21, 2011 at 2:10 pm

Hi, I just started the Master Cleanse. I’m on Day 2 and feeling fine so far. I had a slight headache the morning of Day 2 but it went away after I started drinking my juice. My question is, Is it okay to squeeze the pulp from the organic lemons into the drink?
Thank you for all of your assistance, it really helped me to understand and get started…

Lesleigh April 19, 2011 at 6:03 am

Today is my first day on the MC. I was wondering, can i continue on with my full work out regime, or should i tone it down for the next 10 days?

kim her April 17, 2011 at 4:30 am

today’s my 6th day and i’ve taken 3 glasses only. i feel kinda full and I dont want to drink more lemonade. what effect does it do to me if i lack the required measure of lemonade that i take into my body?

Kelly Rae April 11, 2011 at 10:23 pm

Im a college student and want to try this diet!!! I can only do it for 4 day is that enough time to see results? I also bought raw honey instead of the maple syrup!

Rylie April 5, 2011 at 7:54 pm

Hi,
I was wondering if you can have anything while on the master cleanse? As little as gum to whatever.
Thank you very much!

Micah April 2, 2011 at 8:09 am

Hi Raylen,
I’m in my 50′s and am working my way through what I call a “wellness and vitality renaissance”. I’m sharing what I learn on my blog. What I’m not sure about is do I continue to take my vitamins and meds during the cleanse. I believe the meds should be taken but what about the vitamins? Thanks for your help.

tina preston March 31, 2011 at 3:32 pm

I have been on Master cleanse for 4 days and have only 2 very small bowel movements, is this normal?

Felicia March 26, 2011 at 6:35 am

I just completed 20 days of the MC and I feel Great . I lost a total of 20lbs and I want to lose 10 more. I plan to continue walking 2miles / day eating 2 light meals and drink 2 -3 glasses of the lemonade and half my new body wt in water. It works my skin cleared up no headaches or acid reflux . It is a mind blowing experience . Now a lot of my co-workers want to try it too. I am 47 years old and look 30. You can buy all the ingredients at any health food store or market that has organic products. No need to buy any books all the stuff is on the mastercleansesecrets.com site. My Husband and I did it together he is doing 40days but has loss 35lbs so far. It will test your will power and ability to control your mind. Good luck
