i have a question about the psyllium…is it the laxative or do i still need to take sea salt? i wasn’t aware that it acted as a laxative…but i like the idea of the fiber helping things along, just wondering if i need to “stand-by” the toilet when i take it as described with the other laxatives. one other question is should i strain the pulp out of the lemon juice?

I began my cleanse yesterday. I don’t know what I did wrong. I followed the instructions, prepared myself and began the cleanse yesterday Aug 10. I was nauses immediately upon drinking the sea salt. Made it through that and began the lemonade drink, and by 1:00 pm I was so sick at my stomach just the thought of drinking anything made me sick. My head hurt worse than it has ever hurt. Is this because I am sooooo toxic. I just can’t be that ill. I couldn’t take another drink of the lemonade the rest of the day. Even water made my stomach churn. I managed 4 glasses of lemonade and 6 glasses of water before I surrendered and went to bed. Is that a normal response to this cleanse? I wanted to do this so badly but I just couldn’t get myself to take another drink of the lemonade. Did I do something wrong? Any suggestions.

I am on day 7 of the cleanse; 4th day of the full cleanse as I eased into it for 3 days. I am also on the pill, but yesterday morning I started my period. I though maybe it was just light spotting, but am still experiencing my period today. I should not be starting my period for another 4-5 days. What is going on?

I finished day 4 today and its all going pretty well, no hunger, the lemonade is yummy and even the swf goes well. But since the second night i have incredible intense pain in my lower back, going into my legs and also between my shoulder blades. During the day its also very painful but during the night its insane, i cant sleep at all, don’t know what to do with myself. I had a massage today from my physiotherapist and i thought i was getting a bit better. I went for a walk, drink enough water and to get some relief i use a infrared lamp on the painful areas to get some relief. But this night it came up suddenly really heavy, even more than before. I don’t know what to do and if its ok to proceed with the cleanse. Can someone please give me advise?!?! I’m not someone who takes, in normal situation, quick a painkiller and i eat no meat and eat pretty healthy i can say. I would love to finish the cleanse but i don’t know if its so good for me and i cant anyway if i can’t sleep.
Please help me, I’m really desperate because of this pain.

I am only on the first day of the master cleanse and doing good except for one thing, I am suffering from heart burn and ascid reflux. I have always had trouble with lemon ade in this reguard. I am on day 6 of the Master Cleanse (9 if you count ease in) and I feel TERRIFIC!!!
I expected the worst and nothing – I am sleeping well – 7-8 hours and functioning better then ever. I started at around 188 and am at just below 182. My energy level is higher than it has been in years. I am 58 and believe in a healthy lifestyle – although I haven’t always taken my own advice.
I am doing the cleanse by the book. 60 ounces + 12 tbls ea fresh squeezed (thanks Jack Lalaine juicer) and local organic maple syrup. Cayenne pepper – 1 tsp.
I have herbal ice tea for a change laced with fresh lemon and lime juice and ginger root.

For a first-timer I probably could last a lot longer. I actually enjoy preparing a healthy meal for my hubby and it doesn’t bother me.

I did the Master Cleanse about a month ago. I am planning to do it again in a few months. The first day was the hardest one, the salt flush was also the hardest thing to do, but if got better as the days went by. I think not having a great attachment to food was very helpful. The first 2 days I had horrible sinus headaches, have had them for the past 3 years or so, but I am happy to say, that since the cleanse I have not had one!!
I did lose some weight, I did not do the cleanse for the lost weight, but to detox, I am a vegan, and wanted to do a detox for a while. I had my cycle during the cleanse, I don’t mean to be gross, but my flow looked so fresh, like when I was a teen. I was also working out, and found that my the 5th day I had so much energy, it was unbelievable. One thing I did notice was that my core temp was lower than usual, I had to wear a shawl or sweatshirt all times of the day. Up to this day, I am still drinking lemon water, I still feel clean and energetic. A lot of people at work are interested in doing the MC, from seeing how well it worked for me.
Tonja I have done a lot of research about type 2 diabetes (my grandfather has it) and found a connection to master cleansing systems.

This question is for Helene. I am having EXACTLY the same issue you had and would love to know if it ended or not. I woke at 2:30 last night and seriously will consider Advil (not so ideal given what I’m trying to achieve) if I need to. Any thoughts? I hope your cleanse went well.
I have been on the Master cleanse for 6 days now. Haven’t had any problems with sticking to it and I do feel better, but I have a question. I haven’t had many bowel movements, maybe 2, both watery. I even did the Epsom salt laxative (thought I was going to vomit) and nothing happened. I am taking Psyllium, wheat grass and Hoodia as you recommended. I am taking Percocet 1-2 tablets in the evening only since I am recovering from back surgery. I know it causes constipation. Any thoughts or recommendations??

I’m on day 4 now and doing great. I’m more tired in the evening. Following the Master Cleanse to the T. Last night I fell asleep and didn’t have my tea. I plan on staying on this for 10 days.
Today is my second day of the master cleanse yes am over weight but I am mostly wanting to cleanse my body of toxins and start an new wtih better foods and eating habits. With my new lifestyle change I hope to see weight lose. The pounds you lose on the master cleanse believe me I gladly except them, but being over weight I have to be realistic in order to change my lifestyle. I has been a good to days the first day I was not that hungry and was very suprised that I was able to get through it. This morning I did the sea salt water flush and WoW! it made me so sick I had to go to bed and that was a mistake . It came out in the bed I am ashame to say but if am sharing I should share it all. Can i replace maple syrup with golden syrup, since i want to start the cleanse immediately, but cannot do so because i cannot find organic maple syrup anywhere… so i have to order online? Please tell me that the substitute wont effect the outcome.

I don’t understand. I started the program yesterday morning with the sea salt and nothing! I followed religiously your recommendations. No bowel movement, nothing. Before I went to bed, I took again some sea salt and water and still nothing. I just hade a regular movement as every morning. This morning I still did not the effect that you are describing on your book.

Im SORRY to ask! I keep seeing all these questions about maple syrup but none really answered my questions. If I am doing diet now (I know I can buy grade “B” online and I will) but for NOW, is Grade “A” syrup still okay? Or is something else better to use? Also stationed overseas in Italy, and having a hard time finding filtered water. Is any other water THAT bad?

I’m about to start my first day on the Cleanse tomorrow. I’m not doing the ease-in but I am going to be on the Cleanse for about 12 days. I am 5′4 and 149 lbs. I’d like to lose 20 lbs. but realize that this may not be an attainable goal. 10 lbs. would make me happy, though. 10 lbs. seems more realistic. Best wishes to all!
While on the Master Cleanse, do you know is it normal NOT to defecate every day?
Also, what happens if you just cannot take drinking all the water suggested? I’m having trouble drinking ALL the water, I end up drinking about a gallon of water, plus all the lemonade, and various cups of tea, but definitely do not drink 1 oz per body weight. Suggestions/advice? Is this okay?
This is my 3rd day on the MC. I was reading above how some people are not having BM’s, too. I am also not doing anything like the book mentioned.

I have just fineshed my 4th day. I am not that hungry, and seem to control my cravings very well. I read all the coments above. One person said that they had back pain? Same here, I had back pain since the 2nd night. Today on my 4th day, I had a little bit of a heart burn, and my first time with heekups. I had modified the amout of lemon to be more then the Mapel Syrup, so I guess from tomorrow I won’t do that, as it was going perfectly fine before. The heekups lasted for about a good half hour. I live with a big family, and I am the only one doing this clense. Its hard when everyone in the house start to tell u that forget it, and just eat, and tell u a million reasons to quit. This is my first time, and I tell u that the hard part is not to do the clense, but to ignore all the ppl that are telling u to quit. I find that more tempting, then me just looking at all the food laying around. I am preety happy with the results, and just happy that all the crap in my body just leaving. Its good to read through all the steps, as I was recommended to this from a friend, and missed the morning step of taking the salt too. So good thing that I took the time to read, and all the coments, to keep myself strong. I am looking forward to complete the 10days, and carry on to a more healthier and controled diet, and I am sure by the end I will learn how to control cravings. I have been on it for 2 days now and I think I am doing ok, although I did have to go get the Cayenne Capsules as the pepper was burning my throat too much. Anyways, by question is for when I am weaning myself off the diet. On the day of the juice, does it have to be orange juice (not a big fan) or could it be other juice as long as it is 1oo% juice with no sugar added? Also when I get to the soup, I am guessing homemade is ok and any kind of veggie is ok (is there anything to steer away from like tomato base or anything like that). Any help would be great. Thanks.
I started the master cleanse. This is day 4. My arms and shoulder blades feels as if I was exercising. Its a nagging pain. I took the hot bath with the epson salt. It helps while I am in the tub but after, the pains comes back.

Thanks for creating this forum. It is a useful exchange of positive ideas and sustaining encouragement. I must disagree with your advice about modification of the cleanse to include soup and/or salad for those experiencing discomfort during the process. Not only does the person lose the benefit of self-discipline and self-discovery that occurs as a result of persevering – discipline by the way that will be essential in changing dietary habits and resisting behavior that can result in post-cleanse weight gain – but the effects of the cleanse are compromised. Additionally, putting salad or soup into one’s body after 4 or 5 days of fasting is potentially dangerous as one is in essence breaking the fast which should be done deliberately and gradually, e.g., orange juice. Rather, I would suggest ending the cleanse (properly) at whatever point one feels they can no longer continue, then start all over. This will yield a much better result and avoid potential health pitfalls. Having done the Master cleanse for may years, it is not uncommon for practitioners to “try” 2 or 3 times before they successfully complete the cleanse if 10 days r more. Finally, the cleanse is about much more than simple weight loss. It is restorative and can be life-changing. It allows your body to repair and discard poisons that will remain in your system until it creates or exacerbates serious health problems. I say follow the guidelines and reap rewards beyond what you can imagine. Your body, mind and spirit will thank you.

Day 3 for me. No pains, but, this isn’t my first time doing the cleanse. I used to have pains by day 2. But, I haven’t eaten meat since April 2009. (I do eat seafood) I’ve gotten used to not eating heavy meals, which is probably why I’m not having pains. I do the cleanse twice a year (fall and spring) and I love it. I’m 5′7″ and starting weight was 164 and I’m at 161 today. My goal is about 152. Going lower than that doesn’t look good on me. But, hang in there everyone!! Just get through days 3-5….smooth sailing after that.
Day 4. No pains. Not even hunger pain. I feel full, in that, I hardly want the lemonade. It was a struggle to get down my lunch time dose. This is something new. I’ve decided not to do the laxative tea for the remaining 6 days. There’s nothing for it to pull out. I will continue the salt water flush in the mornings though. O.k., I’ll check in some time this weekend. Happy cleansing everyone!!

I has been a good to days the first day I was not that hungry and was very suprised that I was able to get through it. This morning I did the sea salt water flush and WoW! it made me so sick I had to go to bed and that was a mistake . It came out in the bed I am ashame to say but if am sharing I should share it all. It will come on it own. It was over and hour before it came out more like two may because its my first time. Well am looking forward to day three.

Can i replace maple syrup with golden syrup, since i want to start the cleanse immediately, but cannot do so because i cannot find organic maple syrup anywhere… so i have to order online? Please tell me that the substitute wont effect the outcome.
I am from Guatemala City, and get started I am interested in the MC, but I have problems with the ingredients I wonder if I can use to have available here in my country such as the organic maple syrup may be substituted for maple syrup we use here for the pancake or whether you can use honey, cayenne pepper if I have not found the pepper can be used normally used for cooking, and sea salt not find it or if I can replace it any laxative you, I think I will make it difficult if I have the essential ingredients. I don’t understand. I started the program yesterday morning with the sea salt and nothing! I followed religiously your recommendations. No bowel movement, nothing. Before I went to bed, I took again some sea salt and water and still nothing. I just hade a regular movement as every morning. This morning I still did not the effect that you are describing on your book.

Im SORRY to ask! I keep seeing all these questions about maple syrup but none really answered my questions. If I am doing diet now (I know I can buy grade “B” online and I will) but for NOW, is Grade “A” syrup still okay? Or is something else better to use? Also stationed overseas in Italy, and having a hard time finding filtered water. Is any other water THAT bad?

I’m about to start my first day on the Cleanse tomorrow. I’m not doing the ease-in but I am going to be on the Cleanse for about 12 days. I am 5′4 and 149 lbs. I’d like to lose 20 lbs. but realize that this may not be an attainable goal. 10 lbs. would make me happy, though. 10 lbs. seems more realistic. Best wishes to all!

2 Questions:
While on the Master Cleanse, do you know is it normal NOT to defecate every day?
Also, what happens if you just cannot take drinking all the water suggested? I’m having trouble drinking ALL the water, I end up drinking about a gallon of water, plus all the lemonade, and various cups of tea, but definitely do not drink 1 oz per body weight. Suggestions/advice? Is this okay?

This is my 3rd day on the MC. I was reading above how some people are not having BM’s, too. I am also not doing anything like the book mentioned.

I have just fineshed my 4th day. I am not that hungry, and seem to control my cravings very well. I read all the coments above. One person said that they had back pain? Same here, I had back pain since the 2nd night. Today on my 4th day, I had a little bit of a heart burn, and my first time with heekups. I had modified the amout of lemon to be more then the Mapel Syrup, so I guess from tomorrow I won’t do that, as it was going perfectly fine before. The heekups lasted for about a good half hour. I live with a big family, and I am the only one doing this clense. Its hard when everyone in the house start to tell u that forget it, and just eat, and tell u a million reasons to quit. This is my first time, and I tell u that the hard part is not to do the clense, but to ignore all the ppl that are telling u to quit. I find that more tempting, then me just looking at all the food laying around. I am preety happy with the results, and just happy that all the crap in my body just leaving. Its good to read through all the steps, as I was recommended to this from a friend, and missed the morning step of taking the salt too. So good thing that I took the time to read, and all the coments, to keep myself strong. I am looking forward to complete the 10days, and carry on to a more healthier and controled diet, and I am sure by the end I will learn how to control cravings. I have been on it for 2 days now and I think I am doing ok, although I did have to go get the Cayenne Capsules as the pepper was burning my throat too much. Anyways, by question is for when I am weaning myself off the diet. On the day of the juice, does it have to be orange juice (not a big fan) or could it be other juice as long as it is 1oo% juice with no sugar added? Also when I get to the soup, I am guessing homemade is ok and any kind of veggie is ok (is there anything to steer away from like tomato base or anything like that). Any help would be great. Thanks.
I started the master cleanse. This is day 4. My arms and shoulder blades feels as if I was exercising. Its a nagging pain. I took the hot bath with the epson salt. It helps while I am in the tub but after, the pains comes back.

I must disagree with your advice about modification of the cleanse to include soup and/or salad for those experiencing discomfort during the process. Not only does the person lose the benefit of self-discipline and self-discovery that occurs as a result of persevering – discipline by the way that will be essential in changing dietary habits and resisting behavior that can result in post-cleanse weight gain – but the effects of the cleanse are compromised. Additionally, putting salad or soup into one’s body after 4 or 5 days of fasting is potentially dangerous as one is in essence breaking the fast which should be done deliberately and gradually, e.g., orange juice. Rather, I would suggest ending the cleanse (properly) at whatever point one feels they can no longer continue, then start all over. This will yield a much better result and avoid potential health pitfalls. Having done the Master cleanse for may years, it is not uncommon for practitioners to “try” 2 or 3 times before they successfully complete the cleanse if 10 days r more. Finally, the cleanse is about much more than simple weight loss. It is restorative and can be life-changing. It allows your body to repair and discard poisons that will remain in your system until it creates or exacerbates serious health problems. I say follow the guidelines and reap rewards beyond what you can imagine. Your body, mind and spirit will thank you.

Day 3 for me. No pains, but, this isn’t my first time doing the cleanse. I used to have pains by day 2. But, I haven’t eaten meat since April 2009. (I do eat seafood) I’ve gotten used to not eating heavy meals, which is probably why I’m not having pains. I do the cleanse twice a year (fall and spring) and I love it. I’m 5′7″ and starting weight was 164 and I’m at 161 today. My goal is about 152. Going lower than that doesn’t look good on me. But, hang in there everyone!! Just get through days 3-5….smooth sailing after that.
Day 4. No pains. Not even hunger pain. I feel full, in that, I hardly want the lemonade. It was a struggle to get down my lunch time dose. This is something new. I’ve decided not to do the laxative tea for the remaining 6 days. There’s nothing for it to pull out. I will continue the salt water flush in the mornings though. O.k., I’ll check in some time this weekend. Happy cleansing everyone!!
