Today’s topic is weight loss drinks. Finding just the right combination of food that melts fat off your body is an obsession with dieters. Thousands of books and millions of hours have been dedicated to the subject.
What about losing weight with drinks?
You don’t hear much about it. That’s a too bad because a liquid diet, or partial liquid diet can be better than focusing on food if you want to lose weight fast.
It’s also easier than cooking food and cheaper than eating healthy.
We’re Going To Focus On 3 Types Of Weight Loss Drinks
You’re going to learn about three types of weight loss drinks. They are…
- Weight loss drinks that burn calories
- Weight loss drinks that stop hunger
- Weight loss drinks that fill you up
Stopping hunger and filling you up sounds like the same thing, but we’ll go over the difference in a bit.
You can also combine these drinks.
Want to mix up a super drink that burns calories, stops hunger and fills you up? Go nuts my friend!
Let’s get started…
Weight Loss Drinks That Burn Calories
We’re going to share two drinks and one ingredient that can help speed up your metabolism and help you burn more calories.
- Hot Peppers (powdered or extract)
- Green Tea
Spice up your drinks with hot pepper extract or powder
The capsaicin in hot peppers can speed up your metabolism:
Treatment with 6 mg/d capsinoids orally appeared to be safe and was associated with abdominal fat loss. Capsinoid ingestion was associated with an increase in fat oxidation that was nearly significant.
There’s a reason people never shut up about Green Tea
Before your sparkling little eyes even set upon this section you knew we’d be talking about green tea, didn’t you?
Yeah, you can’t write a blog post about weight loss without talking about freakin’ green tea.
But there’s a reason everyone raves about green tea – because it’s really good at helping you lose weight. The reason is caffeine (which we’ll get to when we talk about coffee) and catechins.
In your body, catechins increase fat oxidation (burning of fat) by activating fat metabolizing enzymes (acyl-CoA oxidase/medium chain acyl CoA dehydrogenase) though a cellular chain of events .
Green tea (catechins and caffeine) together increase norepinephrine, by blocking an enzyme (catechol-O-methyltransferase; COMT) that reabsorbs noreinephrine. More norepinephrine means you’re getting ready for a fight or to make a mad dash to safety, just like with capsaicin.
Make sure you buy high-quality green tea. The cheap stuff that’s $3 for a 100 bags doesn’t have much of the active ingredients that will help you burn fat.
Coffee is good, but don’t fry your nervous system with too much caffeine
The caffeine in coffee is a potent fat burner, but it can make you a jittery mess if you drink too much of it.
Caffeine stimulates the nervous system, which sends direct signals to the fat cells to tell them to break down fat.
Another thing that caffeine does is to increase our blood levels of the hormone Epinephrine, which is also known as Adrenaline.
Epinephrine travels through the blood, to the fat tissues and send signals to break down fats and release them into the blood.
You already know to avoid coffee before bed, but you should also be careful drinking it on an empty stomach because your body will soak it up like a sponge and send it rocketing through your nervous system.
Weight Loss Drinks That Stop Hunger
Three things you can drink, or add to drinks to stop hunger are:
- Coconut Oil
- Apple Cider Vinegar
- Grass Fed Butter
Coconut oil is a proven appetite suppressant
Studies have shown that people who add medium-chain triacylglycerols like coconut oil to their diet reduce their appetite.
Hunger may be delayed and food intake reduced under metabolic conditions that spare carbohydrate oxidation, especially during oxidation of medium-chain triacylglycerols (MCTs) or monounsaturated triacylglycerols.
Coconut oil is a healthy source of energy that’s tasty and convenient. If you’re in a rush and need something quick to hold you over, go with a spoon full of coconut oil. It’s also great for your skin and hair!
Apple cider vinegar is gross but it will stop you from thinking about food
The jury is out on whether or not apple cider vinegar helps you burn fat. Some people swear is does, others say it’s snake oil. What we do know is that if you have a ravenous hunger gnawing away at you, a few spoon fulls of apple cider vinegar can calm that beast… at least for an hour or so.
Honestly, it’s probably just the horrible taste that makes it stop you from thinking about eating, but whatever, if it works it works, right?
The grass fed butter coffee everyone’s talking about
The people who spent decades pushing a low-fat diet are scoundrels. Fat is good.
Like coconut oil, butter is a powerful source of energy that won’t leave you bloated and won’t make a crash an hour after you eat it.
Something that’s become popular among all the cool kids in Silicon Valley is adding butter to your coffee. Now all the smartest geeks are doing it to help them focus on building robots that will probably take over the world.
It can also prevent hunger. But you can’t use regular ol’ butter. It has to be grass fed.
Grass-fed butter has a totally different nutritional profile than conventional (grain-fed) butter because cows’ bodies are designed to process grass – not grains. So in essence, they pass on all those awesome nutrients that are present in rapidly growing green grass to you in the most bioavailable form. When we fuel our bodies with this incredibly high-quality fat, we feel satiated. We experience an unbelievable sustained curb of appetite when our bodies finally get the fuel they truly need, and food cravings become nearly non-existent. Drink a cup of Butter Coffee in the morning, and chances are you won’t feel hungry until the afternoon!
Weight Loss Drinks That Fill You Up
These are boring but effective. Grass-fed butter and coconut oil only require a small amount to shut down hunger. What we’re about to go over is a more crude technique for eliminated your desire to eat – stuffing yourself until your full.
The obvious way to do this is by drinking a ton of water.
Another way that’s a little more appealing is filling up on flavored carbonated water.
Carbonated water is cheap, has no calories or artificial sweeteners, and comes in a variety of flavors. If you never had carbonated water before the flavor is very mild, but if you’re trying to lose weight it does the job.
If you’re hooked on soda, carbonated water can help wean you off that liquid poison
Almost zero calorie smoothies
The following can fill you up and contain almost no calories:
- Iceberg Lettuce
Toss them in a blender with a little water and you have an under 30 calorie weight loss drink that will fill you up fast.
We know what you’re thinking, cucumber smoothies? Uhg.
On the bright side, these smoothies aren’t bad tasting – they’re more of a bland, neutral drink that you can get down without much trouble.
So What’s The Best Drink For Weight Loss?
If you’re not very active you should stick to the low-calorie drinks like smoothies or carbonated water. If you work out or have a demanding job, your body needs fuel – butter and oil will provide you with a healthy, long-lasting source of energy.
